The fairy tries the same trick and engages from above. But hitting a standing target is much harder than a lying down one. The pirate turns his fury-red eyes towards them.
Smiling at the fairy's bravery, Hal took advantage of the slight distraction she gave him and took another swing at the pirate's head. But instead of deflecting the blow, the pirate just glared and Hal's ax sunk deep into his skull.
The feeling of vengeance and a paladin's lust for justice faded and Hal cursed his ring and scanned the room.
"The Flaming Fist does not tolerate cheating. Or pirates. Or bullies. So.... I need a beer."
Pulling his ax free and causing a few twitches from the body, Hal grimaced, casually collected any money from the pockets of the body and paid for a beer with the pirate's coin.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Hal finds 30 SP in the pockets of the common pirates. While he is searching the pockets, the three pirates that were asleep close to the door wake up, see that their captain lies on the floor with his head split open, and run out the door as quickly as they can.
When Hal searches the pirate captain, he finds 32 GP and 15 SP. The captain also wears two gold necklaces (25 GP each) and a blackened gold ring with a white pearl set in it (125 GP).
The staff of the tavern is quick to clear the unconscious and the dead away and wipe the floor. Within minutes nothing inside the tavern tells of the fight that just happened here. The patrons turn back to their drinks and banter and laughter picks back up.
Tarina shows up on the stairs and waves at you to follow her upstairs again. Equipped with a drink of your choice, you do so.
She sits you down at one of the side tables. And makes eye contact with each of you.
"Thank you, your help was greatly appreciated today. The world is a better place now!" She winks and skols a glass of rum, then she laughs an uncomfortable laugh. "But you're not here for my banter, you're here for the answer to your question. Several blocks northwest of here is a public bathhouse with a walled garden and frolicking nymphs carved into its front gates. Followers of the Dead Three have been seen coming and going from the bathhouse, and I’m told there’s a secret door inside that leads to a dungeon. That’s where the killers are hiding.”
Alysa looks at the pirates. Their armor have been badly damaged by the combat, but their scimitars could be worth something. She knows that the blacksmith might be interested and decides to hold on onto those for now. Approaching Whaul, she tosses at him his 10 gp, as promised. “Here, I gave you my word you’ll get that.”
Alysa then joins the team and listens to the discussion. The combat was quick but she could appreciate that all the members of the group are skilled warriors.
NB: how many scimitars in good condition can I retrieve ?
Tarina nods in reply to Jhasso's question. "You know, they have always done their so called sacrifices. Snatched people off the streets. Usually, they would get the poor, someone who wouldn't be missed. These occurrences would be rare. But now, coinciding with the flood of refugees from Elturel, the followers of the Dead Three have been brazen in their attacks. They have killed random people at the market. Out in the open, well, in just a side alley. And also some other places. And the Flaming Fist is busy, trying to guide the arrivals and just organise the city - so there have been rumours that it might get worse. People are starting to be afraid. Nowhere is safe. But why now? I don't know."
Alysa meanwhile collects the scimitar and two daggers from the pirate captain and the two scimitars from the pirates you killed. The sleeping pirates ran off before you could disarm them (fleecing them for money took too long) and the other scimitars you saw were of poor quality, not worth taking.
Whaul grins at Alysa. "Thank you, lady. I will keep drinking and playing. This is a great day!"
Bryce feeling satisfied that he did his part in that fight leaves the pirate to the group. As Tarina mention the location Bryce takes an interest “Is this bath house open at night? It looks like it’ll get dark soon?”

Tarina smiles at Bryce. "The bathhouse opens at dawn, and stays open until midnight. So you could go now and enjoy a swim and a massage if you wanted to!"
"Very well, let's have a small rest and recon this public bath", Alysa whispers to the group.
With the group agreeing to rest an hour to clean their wounds, she decides she could use her cooking skills to raise the moral of her new friends. She gives 15 sp to the innkeeper and asks: "I am off-duty by now, can I buy some ingredients from your cook and use your kitchen to prepare some tapas please? I am a skilled cook and I'll be happy to share with them some of my recipees"
“Don’t think getting massage at a death cults hiding spot is a good idea.” Bryce scratches his chin “Well what’s the plan guys? We resting here for an hour or so then going to this bath house?”
Taking a moment to think “Tell Tarina, how’d you find they were hiding out at this bath house? People just happen to see cultists go and come from a bath house? It doesn’t make sense why not contact the fist if people knew about this..”
“Don’t think getting massage at a death cults hiding spot is a good idea.” Bryce scratches his chin “Well what’s the plan guys? We resting here for an hour or so then going to this bath house?”
"I guess so Bryce. Have a small rest and we'll head there. Depending on how many people there is at the bathhouse, we could scout the place and try to find this secret passage. Maybe it might be better not to show our badges there and pass on for normal patrons ? " Alysa thinks to herself and smiles "If we manage to dismantle this hidden place, I might get a promotion earlier than I though"

Alan looks atAlysa a bit more sceptical after the fight. "I am not usually one to let others into my inner sanctum. I have three chefs employed. There's Chenna Fatrabbit, she is a halfling and my executive chef, my sous chef is called Azar Valsheem, and there's Klave Martilmur, she's my pastry chef - the best there is, even though she's blind. You won't get better stews anywhere. However, you could also try our fish cakes and crab cakes, and for dinner we'll now serve a thick cheese-and-potato soup, and loaf pudding soaked in syrup and decorated with lightly salted almonds. If you want to cook, go and talk to Chenna. She'll show you around and give you a place to work. Don't disturb the work-flow in the kitchen, or I'll see to it that you're thrown out."
Tarina smiles again at Bryce. "You have a lot of questions. I like you! Well, you know, I am someone people like you would call an informant. I know people. I know things that happen around the city, I have my sources. That's why Captain Zodge trusts me. We have 'worked' on things in the past. How do I know that they operate from this place? Well, followers of the Dead Three have been spotted more in this place, than anywhere else. They also come after midnight, when the bathhouse is supposed to be closed. And yes, I am in a way reporting to the Flaming Fist. That's why Zodge sent you to me! Now, would you like to talk about something else? Maybe tell me about your day? Or about what you like to do when you're off duty?" She winks at Bryce.

“Right well, it seems you know your way around the city, Tarina. I for one prefer to train my body for combat on my days off. Tell me what is that you do when you’re not running from pirates?” Bryce will continue to have a conversation with Tarina until everyone is ready for the bath house.

Jhasso slowly removes the hood, showing his burnt body. One ear seemingly a little longer or possibly more pointed than the other.
Alan takes the air in sharply, not being used to such a sight, scarred and darkened skin. Then he whispers back to Jhasso:
"Welcome, brother. What you are implying by your question is that - that you don't remember if you have been here? You look a bit grey. No memory at all? Listen, there are many a patrons that come here once, twice. Others, who have been drinking here all their life. I don't remember, seeing you here. Your mannerism certainly isn't from the city. So, as much as you seem at home in this elven place, and you certainly belong to us, if I had to guess, I'd place you far far away."
The motley group of adventurers and fresh Flaming Fist recruits celebrates the victory in their first fight and tends to their wounds before checking their gear and heading out into the sunset. The city is still too warm to be comfortable, but a noticeably cooler breeze from the sea starts to pick up. Many people crowd the streets, most in a hurry to get home after a long day of work, so the group needs to walk at a slow pace, weaving in and out of foot traffic.
When you take a quiet alleyway to avoid the crowd trying to right a fallen-over vegetable cart, you hear a voice behind or is it above you. "You don't get to kill my buddy, my captain, my love, and walk away!" An older pirate woman jumps down from a barrel and blocks your way, a growling dog by her side. "You will pay for this!"
From around you emerge the three pirates that you had put to sleep in the tavern.
Bryce flabbergasted at the stupidity of the pirate, before the fighting starts he tries to talk then out of it. “You serious? You really want to die cause you’re lover was foolish enough to fight us! I understand her but the rest of you really want to die?”

The three pirates you fought in the tavern start to lower their scimitars and shift their weight from one leg to the other at Bruce's words. Their newly crowned replacement captain notices and barks at them: "This is how you would repay me? Leave me in a fight? Leave Dead Eye's death unchallenged? If you don't fight here, you won't have a place on my ship anymore, traitors!" This seems to snap the pirates into place, they lift their scimitars and scream swear words at you.
“Very well! Last time I didn’t kill your people as they weren’t after me but someone else. Know I won’t hold back this time! I pray Tyr will have mercy once I send you to the afterlife! Now face me and receive your judgement!” Bryce ready himself for the fight ahead!
