You see symbols and what you THINK is writing, but it's in a language(?) that you've never seen before, and could, possibly, be thousands of years old, as far as you know.
Any signs of anything living here (other than the jungle plants and animals), such as sounds of humanoids, smoke from cooking fires, etc.? Or, just jungle growing like mad all the way up to the base (and then some) of the structure? Any animal tracks visible, like large dinosaurs?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Up seems like a logical direction to Bree.
Here is hit points roll: 5
Bree learned a lot of stuff on the trip, including how to twin and empower her spells, gained the Shadow Blade spell, and swapped out (Sorcerer ability!) Ice Knife (useless in close combat!) in favor of Dragon’s Breath.

ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he). Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. I love it so.
(Bigger pool of psi points, gain Blinspot talent, Precognition discipline, and Memory of 1000 Steps feature which lets me dodge an attack and teleport to a space I've occupied since last turn.)

Characters:
Grishkar Darkmoor, Necromancer of Nerull the Despiser Kelvin Rabbitfoot, Diviner, con artist, always hunting for a good sale Bründir Halfshield, Valor Bard, three-time Sheercleft Drinking Competition Champion, Hometown hero
As you guys begin to climb the steps, you notice that thorny vines completely surround the stairs up. They begin to get denser and denser and look very sharp. It gets to the point where you cannot pass. When Musharib slices the thorns away, they regrow instantly, quickly. When he tries to climb over them, he gets hurt.
You notice standing on the vines, where you didn't notice before, is a foot high black stick figure looking creature wearing a triceratops mask is holding an orange in one hand, and a tulip in the other. He pauses for a moment, then runs up the stairs - the vines part, and reform behind him as the creature runs up the stairs to the second level.
Shariel ponders the vines and ascending stairs a moment, "I could just Step past the vines, but that's not much luck for anyone else."

The stick figure looking creature, now on level two, is doing it's best trying to show you it's orange in one hand, and a tulip in the other. It's like it's trying to tell you something, but it doesn't speak.
Is there any writing / hieroglyphics on the base of the structure? History check: 21

Besides the obvious jungle growth, there are no signs of life whatsoever. No tracks, no sounds, no smoke. Nothing.
“Well, I guess the only option we got is up. We’ll be lost for hours if we step off into that jungle.”

“So, Mr. Shaman, got any clue on what’s going on here?” Does it look like there is some active magic going on here? Perhaps the vines are alive?

Bree
”Hey little guy! Wait! We just want to talk!”
”I think the vines are alive! Um... I mean, of course they’re alive, but I mean, *alive* alive!”
”It worked for getting a healer...” she screws up her face and says loudly, “I wish we had a druid!”
