CC looks at the crew member with a knowing look "I grew up in a church that celebrates decay and new life. As much as it might make you uncomfortable, there is still much life working in that dead body and it deserves recognition as much as you or I do. Many in my faith actually believe less in a human or orc or elf being one organism, but many organisms working together toward a common purpose." CC waves a hand around the ship. "Like you or I are the boat and the pieces that makes us are our crew"
"Oh, no no no, the organisms that make us have a common purpose. So, like the crew has an interest in moving the entire ship forward, so to do our bodies. The sahuagin had a common purpose to kill us and most likely eat us, but how is that different then be day, a hunting party chasing a wild boar. Life needs death to live and I believe death always seems to be the 'bad guy' and I just like to enlighten others on how beautiful the life can be that comes from decay." CC pauses for a moment before asking *Have you ever eaten a mushroom?"
Ned glares at CC as they talk more. “I don’t see you and I becoming real close.” He walks away to the farthest point of the deck, clenching his fists, mumbling about mushrooms.
Hearing the conversation from the quarterdeck Elwyn says to CC "I guess reverence of decay isn´t for everyone CC." Elwyn tries to take the tension away and continues."If I had to guess Ned had his fair share of battles with the bloodthirsty sea devils and we can´t really blame him for not thinking he has much in common with them, right?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Your watch for the second half of the night begins, as the winds begin to pick up. The sea becomes rougher, the period between the waves smaller and it's harder to balance underfoot for those still finding their sea legs. Sea spray whips off the tops of waves, seeming to simultaneously soak and dehydrate you all, and the temperature drops with it. It seems it is going to be a much less comfortable night at sea than the first...

At one point Yamdum spots the mast and sails of another ship in the horizon, the body of the boat hidden from view. Teves explains that it could be many things, another trading vessel, one of the crowns military vessels, pirates, slavers or even one of the handful of 'haunted' ships that seem to prowl the region. After half an hour or so, it vanishes over the horizon, not to be seen again.
As the sun begins to rise Bos emerges from the captain's room; "A quiet night, thankfully. Grab some food and rest if you can. We'll be getting intoSaltmarshin six hours...five if the wind is kind. I'll get someone to wake you as we pass that haunted house you are all interested in, you can get a look at it from ocean side."

The crew member listens attentively, frowning but also nodding. And surprisingly responds; "Guess we do get caught up in our own mortality sometimes...'specially us humans...selfish cretins really." Then he looks out to sea briefly; "Perhaps it's inevitable for us...whot with us having such a short life span compared some others...and to mother ocean...You know, I do sometimes think ships are alive in a way, 'specially old 'Naut to see here'"
At dawn Bud vanishes, going back to the gray bag. Elwyn gets down to the mess, fixes a plate for Flan and pays her a visit, thanking her again for the wondrous bag and telling her about his new friend Bud. He then returns to the table having breakfast/dinner with the others. "So, in Saltmarsh, do you have an Inn you would recommend us staying at?" He says looking to Ned and CC.
((DM would Yamdum have a notion of a good place to berth having made port in Saltmarsh before?))
((Yep - definitely. The options would be for Ned, CC and Yamdum to decide from / explain;
The Wicker Goat (a tavern, with rooms above it, on the north road out of town). The Snapping Line (most popular local tavern, build from the hulls of old boats, basic rooms, right by the main port). Mariner's Guildhall (beds available, but for sailors only. Cheap. On the road East out of town). The Empty Nest (full of smugglers and pirates, you would have heard of this and most likely stayed very clear. West side of the port, right on the water). ))
After giving his explanation on how to fix the ship, Cormac would spend the rest of his watch patrolling along the sides of the ship. With the attack the night before his eyes stay on the water in order to keep a lookout for anymore Saughin that may try to attack.
As rest ends he nods in agreement, quickly heading below to deck to get a few hours or sleep in before they reach their destination.
((DM which party members would be considered 'sailors' to be part of the mariners guild?)) Yamdum would mention the guildhall, saying that as the watch had proven themselves perhaps the captain would put a word in for those who are not yet members, but suggest our first night stay at the Snapping Line.
He likewise follows Cormac's lead and finds a spot to catch 40 winks.
Ben nods to the Bos's suggestion, "Seeing the place could be valuable." He asks the captain if he would mind sending someone to fetch him when the house comes into view, then goes below decks to eat and meditate.
"I usually stay with my fellow Katayans, but I've eaten at the Wicker Goat... Would be the snapping line, but me and my brethren make the proprietor uncomfortable"
"The Snapping Line it has to be then. I think a have a tale or two for the fishermen." Elwyn says and retires until he´s woken up to see the haunted house as the ship passes it.
One of the crew wakes you, a human male who's skin seems to big for him, the word baggy comes to mind. He is efficient with his words and simply tells you to get up and grab some jerky and bread from Tortin on the way to deck if you want it.
The day remains overcast, but the wind blows in a favourable direction and the ship makes decent progress. An hour or so earlier the ship changed it's course from a south-south-west to westerly as it made it's way round a headland and passed the larger town of Seaton. Seaton's some way away from your position at sea, but even from the distance you are at you could tell it's a busy port, and a sizeable town, if you were on deck at the time.
As you emerge Bos points out the site of the new dwarven mine and then a few miles later; "There it is, your haunted house" she looks round the group; "perched on the edge of oblivion." The house sits on the edge of the cliff, atop a rise in the local terrain. You can tell the house is in a state of disrepair, with a bowing roof and overgrown vegetation.
((A super old drawing I found, from the 70s/80s))
A few miles later and you start to head up the mouth of a river, towards your final destination of Saltmarsh. The activity of the crew begins to intensify as they prepare to enter port.
The shore is cliff-lined until a few hundred feet short of Saltmarsh, at which point the cliffs retreat in land, replaced by flat land at the shore. And so the first sign of civilisation appears, a few buildings that slowly turn into the start of the port as you continue. You can see two large piers, that house a couple of larger ships currently unloading. The port is a hive of activity. As the ship is directed into one of the smaller piers Bos explains that in the morning the ports would be busy with the local fishing ships heading out to collect their catch, at the moment it is merchant vessels loading and unloading and as the evening comes in the fishing vessels return to unload their catches of the day. Even through much of the night activity continues, with repairs being made, loading of other ships.
The bulk of Saltmarsh sits to the North and as you head West the river does turn North and up through the centre of Saltmarsh, splitting it in two.
As the ship docks at the pier the crew leave you to your thoughts for the last few minutes as there is flurry of activity.
Map of Saltmarsh (North is where West normally is for some reason...);
Elwyn collects his things, bids Flan farewell and readies himself to leave the Naut to see here. "So my friends, perhaps a meal at the Snapping line and then off to investigate that haunted house then. Adventure awaits." Elwyn says smiling to the others as they prepare to go ashore.
Yamdum gathers his belongings, bids the captain and crew farewell. He then says, "Aye, sounds like a good plan Elwyn. Though, an' I be no expert, but if we are to be investigatin' a haunted house, per'aps we ought to do it by the morning light and with rested heads and full bellies? We might even learn a bit more 'bout the old house from the locals."

Ned is enraptured by CC’s spiel, but not in an entirely good way. “What common purpose is shared by sahuagin and the crew?”
