"I´d expect the city watch to come and pick them up within long, but the Xanatharists are more than a little bit like cockroaches. They will probably be up to no good within long I´m afraid. So you know the Flick brothers huh, well they are a bit trollish themselves wouldn´t you say."Sephyre says and smiles at Hugo. "You were brave back there Mr Smith, reckless even but I appreciate you taking on something so much bigger than yourself so that one such as I can stay in the background."
"Yes indeed, they are a bit Trollish." Hugo chuckles at the memory. "My duty has always been to protect ma'am. It's engraved in my veins even! Thank you for having my back, we all make a great team." He adds.
Hugo looks over his shoulder in expectation of something to happen again, then takes another gulp of ale.
D'labos strolls over to where his flask of oil landed, picks it up, and flicks the outside of the vial. "Hmmm, there seems to be some force keeping this glass from breaking. Intriguing, very intriguing indeed,"he coyly speculates. "Does anyone have any use for a magical flask that cannot be broken? I would be willing to sell it... for a price." D'labos offers an exaggerated and playful wink at the group.
"I jest. Now, where were we before we were so rudely interrupted? Ah yes, cards." D'labos tosses the silver back on the table and begins shuffling.
"If I´m not mistaken you were courteous enough to look after our placed bets, isn´t that so D´labos." Sephyre says smiling at the dashing drow. "It was quick thinking with that oil by the way." She adds waiting for her cards.
Nowles simply nods and continues his reading as the others go about restarting the set up for their card game. While it may seem as if he is ignoring things but is actually listening as much as he can.
"Well, that was a thrill," Aster pipes up, nodding a thanks to Bonnie and Durnan. "Glad we got the troll under control. Well fought everyone!" She turns to Sephyre. "You deal with these things everyday 'round here?"
As for Criminal Contacts, because you all assisted Yagra in the fight and demonstrated your prowess against the Xanathar Guild and the troll, she might have a job or two for Sephyre and the gang when she returns to the Yawning Portal, but who knows when that will be.
As you are starting up your card game again, a man with a magnificently trimmed mustache wearing a floppy hat approaches the table. "Bravo, my heroes, bravo! What bravery in the face of certain death! Tell me, you be adventurers, am I wrong? I could use your help. Might I pull up a chair and present my case?"
"Well it isn´t the first time something crawls its way up that well, I can tell you that Aster, but trolls...maybe one or two per tenday I suppose." Sephyre says smiling at the gnome.
As the floppy hat man approaches them Sephyre answers. "Sit down good Sir, of course we are adventurers good Sir, we are whatever you need us to be depending on what you are prepared to pay for our services. But I didn´t catch your name there Sir..."
The man grabs a seat and sits. Before he talks he strokes his mustache, adjusts his floppy hat and tightens his scarf. "Volothamp Geddarm, chronicler, wizard, and celebrity, at your service. But just 'Volo' will do. I trust you've noted the violence in our fair city these past tendays. I haven't seen so much blood since my last visit to Baldur's Gate! But now I fear I have misplaced a friend amidst this odious malevolence."
"Volo, as in the Volo. It´s an honour Sir, I would like to say I´m a great admirer of your work, but I hardly ever read...or leave the city for that matter. Tell me of your friend and we will find him for you good Sir." Sephyre says, being actually a tad bit starstruck with meeting the celebrity.
(OOC: Is Sephyre aware of the voilence he´s referring to? I guess she should be.)
D'labos finishes shuffling and deals the cards, including a hand for Volo. Before he has a chance to decline, he flashes a smile and says, "Ante is 2 sp, Sir. Game is 5-card stud."
(He's referring to the gang war between the Zhentarim and the Xanathar Guild that's been raging in Waterdeep for a tenday or two, abouts.)
Volo looks a little surprised by D'labos but hands him two silver as requested, as though he were securing an audience with you all.
Volo smiles at Sephyre's flattery, but soon becomes serious. “My friend’s name is Floon Blagmaar. He’s got more beauty than brains, and I worry he took a bad way home a couple nights ago and was kidnapped — or worse. If you agree to track him down with all due haste, I can offer you ten dragons apiece now, and I can give you each ten times that when you find Floon. May I prevail upon you in my hour of need?”
"Oh, you can prevail all you want good Sir, consider Mr Blagmaar found. Is there anything you could say about where he was last seen or if you have any suspicions about who would have kidnapped him." Sephyre says already imagining all that gold in her purse.
(OOC: Thanks DM, so it would be safe to say that the Xanatharists at least thought Yagra was working for the Zhents I guess?)
Volo peeks at his hand of cards before explaining further, "Floon and I met at the Skewered Dragon, a dark and bawdy tavern in the Docks Ward, two nights prior. We drank and gambled, and when it was time for me to leave, Floon decided to stay. I have not seen him since, and I am worried what may have happened in that time. You see, Floon has recently come into a small fortune, and he dresses the part; I am now haunted with dreadful visions of him being mugged, or worse, after I left. If you could find him, it would do much to assuage the guilt I feel for leading him out there that night." He stops and thinks for a moment. "Ah, you should know what he looks like! He's a handsome man, red blond hair, fair skin. Human, to be clear. And last I saw him he was dressed in princely garb. Hmm. Is there anything else that I can tell you that might help your search?", he asks.
"Well I suppose we should start our investigation at the Skewered Dragon then. I can´t think of any more questions right now Mr Volo Sir" Sephyre looks around the table if anyone alse has anything they want to know. "Where can we collect the rest of our reward?" She asks while peeking at her own cards.
(OOC: Sephyre would prefer a short rest first, drinking and playing cards, but is otherwise ready to go to the Skewered Dragon. Any objections to going after about an hour?)
Volo smiles. "I'll be staying here at the Yawning Portal for the next few days, if I'm not in the taproom ask Durnan or Bonnie where to find me, I'll let them know if I'm out and about."
"Does this Floon have any enemies to speak of? Someone that may hold a grudge or vendetta towards him?" Hugo asks Volo with thrill and intent in his eyes.
Volo thinks. "None that I can think of, Floon is a fairly likable fellow, in spite of his indiscretions," he says. "If he has any enemies he hasn't told me about them!"
"Welp, I'm ready to go! Oh yeah a rest does seem fitting actually." says Hugo, feeling his previous wound. "We will find your Floon, Mr. Volo. You have my word."
(OOC: So how do we play out the game of cards. Is it a card tool proficiency roll using charisma or what? :-) (Also, does Sephyre know anything about the Skewered Dragon, or Mr Blagmaar?)
