(Mmm, good question! What I would do is you can either roll a Cards tool check (an Int check plus proficiency if you have it) if you're trying to win the game by playing the game the proper way, roll deception if you're trying to convince others to fold in spite of what your hand may be, or roll sleight of hand if you're a cheater. Whoever gets the highest check wins, if there is a tie there is a tie. Good luck to everyone in the card game!)
Volo thanks Hugo profusely, before he looks again at his cards and decides to fold. "No further antes up for me, please. I will head to my room now, if that is alright; I have a publisher's deadline to meet and much writing to do to meet it!" He excuses himself and heads up the stairs to his room.
(Sephyre, being a child of the docks, knows the Skewered Dragon: it's a rough and tumble pub that has a reputation for showing poor hospitality to those who the patrons decide are putting on airs.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(OOC: Sephyre actually has the tool proficiency, but her style would be to bluff. Deception:14 Don´t care about the money though, just the prestige ;-)
"Now how did Mr Blagmaar end up at the Skewered Dragon? He would have stood out like a sore thumb" Sephyre says scratching her head and smiling at the picture in it. "You should know that it's a rough and tumble pub by the docks that has a reputation for showing poor hospitality to those who the patrons decide are putting on airs." She tells the others.

"Well, Mr. Volor sir," Aster says cheerfully. "I'm rather unfamiliar here but I suppose an adventure around with these people while searching for your friend would make for an interesting tour!" She takes her cards and ponders for a moment. "I would like a rest as well before heading off."
Deception: 11
(OOC I honestly have no idea how to play poker lol)
(Yeah, I suppose so but if we are to investigate the Skewered dragon I think we would have to wait until next evening. I don´t expect us to need spells there but we could go for the long rest as soon as anyone feels so. Actually perhaps everyone doesn´t need to visit the pub since that would probably just be information gathering.)
Nowles does not seem to put much stock in the card game, seeming having most interest after the much more exciting confrontation with the troll. As Volo joins them he looks up over the edge of his book, trying to get a read on the man as he spoke. At the mention of the offered amount of gold he perks up to listen more. With that kind of money he could spend a bit longer in the city.
"Um... I guess we should probably start looking at the Skewered Dragon?" Marena asks in a confused and quiet voice. Having followed the group back to the table and sat down to watch the card game, the shy drow finally spoke up once the strange man had left. She looks over the group playing cards and shrugs, utterly confused at their game.
"That´s it for me." Sephyre says after a couple of rounds. "I´ve lost enough for one night. Thank you all for an interesting evening, looking forward to be working with you. I´ll be heading home now, but I´ll see you all here at breakfast I hope. Better not let that trail get too cold. Good evening folks." As she says that she collects her stuff and gives Bonnie and Durnan a wave of her hand and leaves the portal. On her way home she is tempted to pay a visit to the Skewered dragon but finally decides that prudence is the key.
(I was thinking Sephyre actually stays with her family in Dock ward for now if that´s ok.)
Hugo, still shell-shocked by the show that Durnan put on announces "Well, I think I am going to retire for the night then we can get out there and find that missing man. Durnan, have you got a room for me?" he shouts out to the barkeep.
On her way home through the Waterdeep night Sephyre finds her way to Nevercott's Haberdashery in Dock ward and peeks inside to see if the proprietor Mr. Fel´Rekt would be available for some late night consultation.
Nowles will return to his own room, gathering his things. Once he is in his room he will go back to his reading for a while longer before going to sleep.
Fel'Rekt is indeed around, and seemingly no one else. "What can I do for you, daughter of the sea?", the well dressed drow elf asks with a smile when he sees Sephyre enter the store. "I trust you're not here to buy a hat, though if you are we have some lovely ones in stock at bargain prices. Tell me my friend, what's on your mind?"
Sephyre walks up to the counter and explains her off hour visit. "Well Mr. Fel´Rekt the hat purchase will have to wait I´m afraid. I had the most interesting evening at the portal though, and I think I may have some new associates. First there was a bar brawl between a zhent half-orc named Yagra and some Xanatharists. Then a troll came up the well but Durnan cut it up pretty quickly, with some significant help from the associates I mentioned I might add. Also we got this job, from Volo himself no less. We are supposed to find a Mr Floon Blagmaar last seen at the Skewered dragon. If this partnership works out I think I will come see you more in the future, possibly bringing interesting items for you Mr Fel´Rekt. I would be helped by some information though, regarding Mr Floon Blagmaar, the zhent Yagra and the conflict between the zhents and the xanatharists. I would really appreciate your help with this Mr Fel´Rekt."
Marena bows and leaves the tavern. Moving quickly through the night streets, she pauses in a city Square staring up at the moon. "Eilistraee, is this the oath you have chosen? Saving this man and helping these others?" Closing her eyes for a prayer, she hurries back to her temple, excited to tell her friends about her night.
Fel'Rekt smiles. "I'll start in reverse order. Nobody knows what exactly has sparked the current conflict between the Xanathar Guild and the Zhentarim; apparently the Xanathar Guild accuses the Zhentarim of stealing some great magic item worth a fortune, but they won't say what it is. For themselves the Zhentarim deny all wrongdoing. They've been fighting violently in the streets some tenday or two now."
"As to the Zhentarim agent known as Yagra Stonefist, I do know of her, in passing. She is an associate of Davil Starsong, an elf who runs a splinter organization of the Zhentarim. The main Zhentarim branch of Waterdeep dislikes these so-called Doom Raiders as much as the Xanather Guild, as they have taken perhaps half of the organization under their own control in little time."
"Finally, about Mr. Blagmaar, I unfortunately do not know this individual. Working for the famous Volo sounds like an interesting opportunity, though; do keep me informed about this undertaking."

(OOC: As long as we don´t know that it wouldn´t matter, your bluffing seems good there Aster ;-) Is Aster ok with a short rest then?)
(I think it's evening? So a long rest to regain spell slots would also be nice and we can head off in the morning if everyone's cool with that)

(You never know when another troll might barge in :D)

D’labos definitely dealt himself from the bottom of the deck… 😂 (slight of hand 18).
”Good night Mr. Volo. We shall see to your friend in the morning…. After I win those dragons off my pals here.”

Hugo Smith - Mark of the Sentinel Human Warrior
As Sephyre heads home to the Docks Ward, Durnan tosses Hugo a key to room 7.
"I'll take a room as well!" Aster calls to Durnan, then looks to the rest of the group. "I'll see ya tomorrow morning then?"
