Varis makes his way through the town. He notes the location of the Guard Hall for later, he doesn’t want to be late for that meeting. As he walks, he looks and listens as the city begins to become increasingly busy throughout the morning, trying to catch news of the day and anything out of the ordinary.
Perception 19
When he arrives at the temple, he takes in the surroundings, trying to determine which god in the pantheon this particular temple serves.
Religion 23
He seeks out the closest individual and asks "Excuse me, could you point me to Priest Soldus? I hear he keeps the history of the town and I have a few questions for him.”
"Ah, thank you. A pleasure to meet you, Siegfried. My name is Morilius, but call me Mori." He then takes a moment before saying, "I have met a few followers of Sothel before, you are kind people." He then looks around at Nevaeh and Kairynna to see if they will say anything to Siegfried's request to pick up their tabs.
Braci - The doctor looks at you, a little confused by how many people are visiting old Ivtan. "Follow me." (Assuming you do so) You are taken down a hall to a wooden door that opens into a small room with some medical implements to either side of a bed with a side table and a chair next to it. On the bed is a very old looking human man with brown eyes beneath bushy eyebrows, the same grey color as his shaggy hair and beard. You see that he has many scrapes and bruises, but the most noticeable injuries are his eye (which is patched, but clearly freshly wounded) and his lack of an arm (cut off at the shoulder and bandaged). With his arm he gestures for you to sit and says in a tired and course voice, "What can I help ya with, young man?"
Varis - While walking on the street you hear word that someone named Tyrem is "on about it again." When you reach the temple and take a look around you can tell that this temple (as many temples in Kozlite do) has a shrine to most gods (but with your check you do recognize that of the eight gods of the main pantheon, only one: Suthel, is missing). You walk up an individual that appears to have been praying, but is now packing up to leave for work. "Oh. Priest Soldus should be back soon."
A little bit later (after the individual you spoke with left) another figure steps in. They are dressed in somewhat informal priest's robes but seem to carry themselves with an air of authority. The individual looks like an older elf with blond hair and fair skin and as they enter they smile at you. "Hm. A newcomer. Is there something I can help you with?"
Braci thanks the old man for his time and leaves him to rest. Probably enough time to go to his home then grab a late meal before meeting with Vara Lonsvell. Braci deftly negotiates the streets and alleyways to Old Ivtan's home. He approaches the door and standing a little straighter he lowers his hood as he politely knocks on the door with the top of his staff.
"Pardon me, I am investigating the attack on Old Ivtan, hoping I can find some clues why he was attacked and the cause of the trouble in these lands." Braci says with calm smile. "I just got back from visiting him at the hospital, mind if I look around? You have my word, I won't disturb or take anything and feel free to accompany me."

Kairynna nods as Mori answers her question. "Kairynna, traveling doctor, at your service." She shales his extend hand and flashes him a smile. As Seig comes over and asks if he could pay for their food, Kairynna smiles at him. "Well it seems we have quite the gentleman here. I am more than capable of paying on my own but who am I to refuse such a kind offer. "We were just discussing Vera and the recent happenings around the city. Me and my companion here saw fields burning on our way here."
Braci - The door opens and you see a gnome woman with brown hair in a braid standing there. "Oh hello! You've visited Old Ivtan, you say! How is he?" She says as she gestures for you to enter. (If you do) You see a decently sized house with a warm light filling it (it is clearly being cleaned and kept while Old Ivtan is at the hospital). The room you enter is a nice foyer with three doorways in front of you.
At the mention of burned fields, Sigi's smile falters and he thinks for a moment... several bits of conversation he had overheard in the tavern that morning now crystalizing into new understanding.
"I was not aware of the scorched fields. Perhaps Thoradin and I rode into town via a different route. But now that you mention it, turmoil does seem to be on the lips of everyone here, doesn't it?" That last bit, his voice trails off, as if he is asking himself the question.
After another moment's thoughtful pause, he touches the clasp of Sothel on his scarf and mutters a brief mea culpa in Dwarvish. He then looks back up to the others, his eyes bright again and his smile returning. "It seems I may have a case of what what my dwarf kin call 'tunnel vision'... I believe the elves have a similar expression, something about 'forests but for trees?' What I mean to say is, I've been preoccupied with my assignment and I fear it has lead me to neglect the glaring suffering of the people here. I've passed through this place many times before and know the people of Aoswell to be honest, hard working folk. Pray tell me, have you heard any word on what evil plagues them? You mentioned someone named 'Vera'?"

Morkraw will make his way to the fields that were burned and search for about 2 hours to find where Ivtan had been attacked, and any signs of what the old man had described.
Investigation : 23
If he finds what he suspects, then the nagging tug of what might have done this and the understanding of the cities problems becomes a bit clearer. After this Rocky will begin making his way to the Hall of Guards to talk with Lonsvell.
Rocky - It takes you a sizeable portion of your 2 hours but eventually you find the fairly localized spot where the attack happened. You see a rock covered in dried blood next to which is a bone that appears to have been picked clean. A ways away there is the head of a pitchfork and further from that are the metal remnants of a lantern (all of this is pretty easy to spot because the fields are almost entirely flat). On almost every object you find there is dried blood. Because so much of the dirt in the area is disturbed, you don't find any tracks.
Varis greets the older elf “Good morning, Priest Soldus, I presume? I am a wandering scholar, new to the area and would like to learn more about the town.”
Through the course of the conversation Varis will ask several questions on the region’s history, taking notes on a sheaf of parchment from time to time. He will work in several of key questions:
“I understand the town has been attacked several times, any ideas on where these creatures come from or what they are?
What can you tell me of the leadership of Vara Lonsvell? Why can’t the town defend itself against these creatures?

As Braci enters the home he is impressed by the cleanliness and condition of the place. Clearly the gnome is doing a wonderful job as caretaker. Looking at the women he smiles and says, "Thank you very much, name is Braci. Pleasure to make your acquaintance. He has suffered some serious wounds, very lucky to be alive but he appears to be a man of great inner strength to overcome those beasts and his spirit is high."
As he starts to wonder through the home he finds it strange that people would live inside, confined by the walls but then most of the world lives likes this, not as he does.
"Have you noted anything strange or out of place? Have there been any unusual callers to the home or anyone lurking about?" He asks as he wanders through the home and rooms. He starts his search in the left most room and systematically strolls from left to right.
Braci - The gnome thinks about your question briefly. "Not that I know of. A number of people have come by to leave gifts for his recovery but I don't think anyone was very suspicious."
In the left room, there is a nice dining room (with a small kitchen attached). There isn't much of note there. In the central room there is a couch next to a fireplace. It isn't a very nice couch but it is functional. In the back there is a closet with some farming supplies. In the right room there is a bed with a stack of gifts on it (where, it seems people's gifts have been gathered). There is a wardrobe with working farmer's clothes.
It seems like the whole house is very normal and there isn't much of note.
Nevaeh beams at Sigi. "Thou art too kind. I thank thee for thine praise. Nevaeh is what I am called, and Nevaeh is what thou mayest call me. Thou art rather handsome yourself, I quite admire the hair on thine face!"She leans in far too close to Sigi's face, practically nose to nose, examining him before leaning back some. "Verily, I know little of thine gods and ways, but hopefully one day I can learn all there is to know. And, like my fair and first friend here, I shall also accept thine generous offer of payment for my libations and meals. Thou doth seeketh this Vera woman as well? 'Tis remarkable how many share our objective, Rynna. By the Void, 'twould be folly not to take this as a sign that we should join forces with these folk anon. Dost thou shareth mine opinion?"
As Braci wanders through the house his mind seems to wander elsewhere. He chats idly to the gnome as he inspects each room in turn. Once he finishes his inspection of the home he turns to the gnome and says, "Thank you very much for the help. Doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary here but I suspect it was a longshot to start with. If you happen across anything though please don't be shy to seek me out or come to the guard house." With that he turns towards to the door, pulls his hood up as he steps outside and heads to the nearest eatery or inn for a bite to eat.
He thinks to himself, "Not much else I can do at the moment. Maybe I will ask around the inn about this Tyrim fella before answering Lady Lonsvell's call at the guardhouse."
It's been a while since he had a good hot meal and a cold glass of water and without knowing it his steps seem to quicken in anticipation.

Varis thanks the Priest for his time and the information. On his way to exit the temple, he leaves a piece of gold as an offering. Hopefully it will go to ease the burden on the town in some small manner. Varis makes his way back through the town to the Guard Hall, ensuring he is there before the appointed hour. While waiting for the meeting, he watches the crowd, listening for any rumors and looking for any familiar faces from this morning.
Sigi laughs warmly as Thoradin breaks into song. While he enjoys the moment, it is a bit too early in the morning for him to serenade his fellow bar patrons, but he taps along on the tabletop and encourages the revelry. He picks at his plate of stale bread and cheese, enough to sate his morning hunger, and stands from the table to stretch.
He is wearing a finely tailored outfit of orange and blue colors that hints at his muscled physique without being obnoxious. It is accented with a decorative scarf, clasped with a small steel symbol of Sothel. His black hair is coiled tightly in a bun behind his head and his long beard braided once down the center. He pauses for a moment, looking over the life and energy of the room and sighs, looking quite content. He then makes his way over to the table of Morilius, Kairynna and Neveah. If Thoradin in not engaged elsewhere, he will beckon him to join.
“Glorious performance, minstrel. It was just what we all needed this morning, I think.” He flashes a smile to the table, “I am called Siegfried, and my friend with the song in his heart is called Thoradin. We are traveling priests of good Sothel, lord and muse of crafters, builders and artists. As part of my sacred duties, I make it my business to encourage and reward those who are skilled with forge or quill; loom or lyre. I had planned to pick up the tab for you, young bard, but it seems the two angelic women here have already offered to do this. If I may be so bold, might you ladies allow me to pick up your tabs instead? You’ve clearly got ears for talented artists and if I can encourage you to continue to encourage the arts… well then I think that is Sothel’s work done twice over again.” He waits a moment before proceeding, to see if his intrusion into their conversation is welcome or not.
Thoradin finished the song and had a deep belly laugh. He wasn't the worst singer he knew, but normally it didn't turn out nearly as well. Certainly he wasn't trying to upstage the other performer... Maybe Sothel was with him. Grinning at Siegfried, he followed along with him to the table of the one who started the revelry with the music. He nodded at the other dwarf's words. "Aye, a great performance to be sure. Quite inspiring, also. A real pleasure to meet you all."
His smile widened a bit at Kairynna's introduction. "Ah, a doctor! We're actually healers ourselves, as well, by Sothel's grace..." He trailed off when the burned fields were mentioned. "That's terrible - I'd like to hope it was an accident but something tells me that's not the case, hmm? Do you know anything about what started it?"
Rocky casually walks into the streets and next to the elf. " Afternoon to ya friend. Looks like we're the first to arrive. I wonder if the rest of the inn folk have gotten drunk and slept in? "
Rocky then pulls out a bit of the meats from this mornings breakfast and begins chewing on it, and even offers the elf a bit if he would like. { and uses one of his daggers to cut a piece off the unchewed end if need be. }
Looking around at the people walking about, mouth partly filled with meat, " Tis a shame what da people are going though. I'll do ma best to help however I can, but I make no promises. This place has seen it's fair share of hardship, and I for one have no desire to add to it. "
Still, what the old farmer had said him kept bugging him. He had a small inkling of what might have attacked, and if so he wondered how long have they been doing it. Sure hunting packs will use all sorts of tactics to gather food, but to constantly bother a civilized area is just asking for trouble. Sooner or later the hunters would become the hunted, and that time is quickly drawing near.
Something is forcing the issue, and with the whispered talks of massing evil forces, this may be the tip of the pickaxe.
