(Robin: Save the luck point, the roll is a straight one as Taersis is blinded too)
As PM and then Robin launch twin blasts of fire, the blackness flickers and goes out, revealing motes of red light swirling off of the deathlock. He throws back his head and screams, "FOR THE QUEEN!" before exploding into a blast of red mist, very like blood despite his skeletal form. The room is suddenly silent except for a soft plunk as his wand falls to the ground where the deathlock was standing.
Robin strides forward, half-amazed that they managed that. She moves to the fallen foe and, gingerly, picks up the wand from where it fell. She turned it over in her hand as she glanced to the others. "That was something a bit beyond what I suspected to find here.." She says truthfully as she holds up the wand. "Give me some time to study this and I can see if I can unlock its potential..."
Stitch moves quickly towards the sound of the wand hitting the ground before he realizes Robin was just a bit faster then him in getting to it. He looks up at her with pleading eyes, “I am Stitch.” He holds out both hands palms facing up, clearly waiting for the wand to be placed in his hands. (Stitch likes sticks. It looks like a stick. Fine with someone else having/using what I suspect is a wand of magic missiles)
Jax: Looking down the stairs, you can see into a dark basement. Thanks to your darkvision, you can make out the start of rows upon rows of piles of bones.
Drego sways uneasily on his feet, dazed from the fight and the magic that incapacitated him and the bolts that bypassed his fancy new armor. The ranger makes a quick scan of the room, looking for any traps or hidden doors calling over to Stitch for help as he does. 'C'mere buddy, leave that stick alone until we're sure it's safe for you to have. Let's see if we can find anything else that might be hiding ok?'
Investigation with help from Stitch if allowed: 8. or straight if not: 4
"There are bones down there,"Jax says, pointing downstairs. "Lots of piles of them. I could just go down there and break them up into bits to make sure they don't bother anyone. Surely they would not reanimate, surround, and attack me just as I did so."He pauses, scratching his head. "Or are these the ancestors of the townsfolk, and they should handle this?"
"I will hold on to it for now." Robin informs the small goblin as she tucks the wand into her belt. "Can you take a look at that compass of yours, and see where it points now?" She hopes the reminder of the compass will take the sting out of her keeping the want until she can study it further herself.
Drego does not see any traps or hidden doors. He does, however, see the iron-bound chest at the foot of the bed.
(If Stitch does indeed pull out/look at the compass): The compass is no longer pointing at any one thing. Instead it spins, oscillating wildly in every direction. It appears to have lost whatever it's tracking.
Does there seem to be anything in here that would suggest the source of blighted crops? Apart, from, well, the recently-undead fellow who exploded in blood?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Drego circles back to the Ironbound chest at the foot of the bed, keeping Stitch close at hand. 'C'mere help me check this over and open it up, see what that creature was hiding'
Investigation for traps with help: 17 and without 10
Jax: There's the recently exploded undead fellow, and the bone remains down in the basement--you (as a player at least, IDK about Jax) probably remember somebody saying something about how proximity of large quantities of Mabaran undead can **** with plants.
Drego: The chest is not trapped, but it most definitely is locked. Is Stitch helping with lockpicking too?
Case stands there...a drizzle of blood sprayed across his metallic form. He lowers his mace, as dribbles of red viscious fluid slowly trickle down his front, while is back is still pristine and shiny. "I smashed it with my mace and it exploded," he adds, unnecessarily.
The blood on his armor drips down, as if repelled from the metal itself, and soon a thin pool of blood is at his feet, while his entire armored body is once again gleaming and pristine.
He glances at the compass as Stitch pulls it out and looks at it. "It would appear we have completed our mission. This creature seems to have been the source of the undead incursion. Though, wether its demise will correct the rot in the fields is another matter. Still, we should investigate the room, and below, to be sure. Jax, you should not go alone. The bones may indeed to just that...animate...surround you....and kill you. But first, we should thoroughly search this room."
Case walks over to the chest, and puts his hand out to Drego after (if) he manages to unlock it, "Stand back, it may be trapped."
He attempts to flip open the top of the chest, and then if nothing explodes or there is no danger, he stands back so Drego can search it.
With Stitch's help, Drego is able to get the chest unlocked.
As Case flips it open, he sees the chest has an empty bag, a sack that jingles slightly, and a note written in elegant Elvish script.
For those who speak Elvish, the note reads:
Taersis,
When you have a hundred skeletons, place them in the bag and set them loose upon Teryk. Once the town is destroyed, move on to Bastion. Our Queen requires Karrnath’s army to be distracted to the east if her plan in Korth is to succeed.

Stitch pouts just a little at being told he can’t have the stick and makes a sad pouty face. This is short lived however since he’s quickly called over by Drego whom he promptly heals. (BA: convert sorcery points (2) into 1st level spell slot. Action: Cure wounds on Drego for 5 points of healing)
He then helps Drego search the room. During the search he hears Robin mention his shiny compass and pulls it out to check. He watches in amazement as it spins freely. Not pointing at anything in particular. Hearing Drego call for him again, he stows the compass and goes over to help unlock the chest.
Stitch picks up the pouch and upon hearing it jingle, looks inside. (Assuming it’s something shiny he’ll try to make it disappear... sleight of hand: 13)
Robin casts absorb elements to half the acid damage.

Jax looks around, having kept control of himself, checks for PM, and glances at the rest of the party. "That was weird."
He steps forward and looks down the stairs the deathlock was standing near. Doesn't go down yet but looking.

What's the difference between a Wizard and a Sorcerer?
Class.
"Let me..." Robin begins, but sighs as the lid is simply thrown open. She shrugs and starts to ritually cast detect magic anyway.

(That explains why it was so hard for Stitch to try and hide without anyone noticing. Sheesh 😝)
