Drego and Robin are pretty sure Derin is telling the truth and does not intend you harm.

Derin nods in response to PM's rundown of the situation. "It sounds like you fought a shadow, especially if it drained your strength. Unless it was particularly powerful, any weakening effects should wear off after a good night's sleep. Quite frankly, I have no idea if the trains are sabotaging you, but I would ask that you at least give us a chance to prove the Order does not represent the Blood of Vol as a whole. We can offer you a safe place to rest--or at least somewhere you can easily defend if you wish to set watches, while we look into the situation." He tilts his head at Robin. "Now, may I please look at the coffin?" His voice is polite, and he seems to be really asking, not making an annoyed/sarcastic snipe or whatever.

Case steps forward, his hand up in a manner to preven Derin a closer look at the coffin. "One moment longer. You've implied that we are ignorant of a larger plot. This indicates that you are aware of a larger plot. Please share what you know. We have already proven that we are allies, so keeping us in the dark serves none of us."

“Does ‘allies’ mean ‘grumpy’?” Jax says to PM.

     "...not always...  but more often than you'd expect..."

Derin shakes his head. "I don't have knowledge of a larger plot beyond the suspicion that this isn't all the Order has done, because when it comes to them, assuming the worst is usually the best choice. What I do have is more knowledge of the surrounding circumstances than you, such as the security measures in the Monastery and Order activities lately--at least those that the Blood of Vol is aware of. Earlier I was mostly referring to the fact that you all jumped to some extremely dark conclusions about me and the Blood of Vol as a whole, apparently based on some fairly small fragments of evidence. It was deeply frustrating, more so because of the commonality of such assumptions about us beyond Atur, though I do see now why those conclusions may have been reached by you, specifically. It was mostly my frustration speaking, for which I'm sorry. But I don't know anything specific about some greater threat within the Monastery, though I do know the High Abactor is looking into that as we speak and will likely have more details for all of us by morning."

     "...of course the bad guys trying to set us up would say something very similar, yes?" PM points out...

     "...anyway, paranoia and such can wait...  should we burn this coffin and see what happens or...?

Drego nods at PM's suggestion 'This thing' gesturing towards the coffin 'radiates dark energy. It needs to be neuralized and we need to be about our business.'

"If you have a method to burn stone, I'm all ears." Derin shrugs. "But other than that, I can't help figure out how to neutralize it if you won't let me get near it."

     Pieste Mor shrugs to indicate they aren’t stopping Derwin, then turns to look at Case…

Case shrugs. Finally a shrug that appears to be well timed and a natural response!  And steps aside to let Derin examine the coffin.

"Let me know if I can assist you," Jax says. He stands ready to hit anything bad, but also helps to lift the lid off when everyone is ready.

Robin nods and steps out of the way to the coffin. She moves across the chamber, putting her back to a wall. Fire blossoms around one of her hands, a fire bolt spell held ready in case of danger.

(Good job Case! Take inspiration for finally mastering the art of the shrug XD)

Derin approaches the coffin and begins examining it closely. "Thank you Jax, I will." He checks along the sides and top, frowning. "I can see the traces of runes running along the sides here, and disappearing beneath the lid. I think this coffin was the focal point for what is blocking Oathbound Garash's divinations. I should be able to tell more with the lid gone, if you would Jax?" He smiles at the large barbarians and adds to the guards that were with him, "Please go out to the entrance and let anyone else who arrives that everything here is fine now, to avoid any repetitions of this situation."

Unless stopped, the two guards both nod and head for the door.

Robin frowns as the guards leave, but does not stop them.

Drego falls in behind the guards as they head to the door and unless stopped will simply follow them until they take up their post at the entrance.  He'll mirror them, keeping about 10 feet back, but keeping them both in his sightline.  He's ready to Misty Step 30 feet away from the guards and back towards/into the room with the rest of the party at the first sign of aggression.

     Not one for lifting things, PM instead flutter up off of Jax’s shoulder and up to hear ceiling height so as to have a good view of events.  “…Jax, I know the fight took some oomph out of you…  I’m sure one of the others could assist…”

Case steps forward to lend Jax his strength, if needed.

Jax helps to lift the lid off.

Everyone but Drego: Jax lifts the lid off, and you are all faced with a boiling sea of shadows and darkness within the coffin. Derin jerks back in surprise and horror. "Dark magic," he hisses out between his teeth. He quickly scans the runes on the underside of the coffin lid. "It's a tiny rip to Mabar, takes advantage of the manifest zone's thin barrier between planes. Probably let the shadow rest and possibly even empowered it as well as warding most scrying efforts--this place counts as partially in another plane while that portal is leaking energy. We need to get rid of the lid, it'll break the connection and destroy the portal."

Case stares at the roiling shadows, "What is a manifest zone? Either way, let us smash the lid, yes?  Jax, perhaps we can just left it up and throw it down until it is broken into pieces?"
