ooc: As I read it, those dead bodies are new and not from our last incursion. They killed each other. If I recall correctly, we made it to a room with some boxes or supplies or something, had that fight there, and then retreated.

(OOC: Reread the discription of the area with the corpses. That 'was' the area with the crates. Again, unless I am mistaken, so the DM can update us all...)

(OOC - yeah, the room where you found the neogi corpses was the supply room you finished in last time. The two corpses were new and looked to have killed each other. You moved down the tunnels from that room to this junction, a new spot, with two main tunnels that appear to be used predominantly. While another was where Thavriol thought he saw movement, but found no traces. Sorry for the confusion.)
"I vote we check out this tunnel Thavriol saw something in." Nolla suggests. "The more used tunnels are likely not of much interest, not until we find out what other threat is down here."
The diagonal tunnel leading off from this junction, closest to where you entered, sits dark and silent. A little narrower than the others at only 10ft across and only just high enough that the tallest of you doesn't hit your head. How do you want to proceed?
Thavriol peers down the tunnel and taps into his Divine Sense, trying with all his senses to get some read.
Perception 19 Divine Sense: As an action, you can detect good and evil. Until the end of your next turn, you can sense anything affected by the hallow spell or know the location of any celestial, fiend, undead within 60 ft. that is not behind total cover.
As you focus your divine senses, Thavriol looks down the dark tunnel but sees nothing, either with his divine sense or naturally. However, in this moment of focus, he hears the tick-tick-tick of something coming down the other diagonal tunnel, one that Nolla and Samael identified as one of the main thoroughfares.
As the sounds continue, you're not entirely certain as the echoes of the tunnels could be playing with the sound a little, but you get the feeling that they're not far from the junction. No more than a half minute away, but also possibly very close.
Thavriol moves quickly, but quietly to the others and tells them what he hears. "We have very little time. Ready yourselves." The paladin moves to one side of the entrance, getting ready to attack, trying to hide. He also casts Protection from Evil and Good on himself.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As you all find your hiding spots, some better than others, you wait and listen as the sound of spidery legs moving down the tunnel approaches. As they step out of the tunnel, one of the two neogi happens to glance to the side where Perigord tries to squash himself against the wall. The creature stands there, dumbfounded, its head tilting as it takes in the strange sight of the halfling trying to get as flat to the wall as it can, staring back at it. While the other has not noticed the halfling, it peers off across the room where Nolla hides, tilting its head much like the other neogi as it catches glimpse of... a shoe? A weapon? Its not entirely sure what it has noticed, and it stands still and silent as it weaves its head back and forth trying to get vantage on what it has seen.
Roll for initiative, all. You all get a surprise round as for the most part, you were all able to remain undetected - Perigord and Nolla were only just noticed.

"any objections or alternative proposals?"
"Works for me."

"I vote we ambush whatever it is here." Nolla says, moving to hide in the entrance of one of the other, non-used, tunnels. Stealth: 13
