As Perrin's wall rises, you see a centaur struggle through and turn to Tallgrass only to meet a bolt to its chest. The horseman falls limp to the ground.
The tide of battle quickly turns against the centaur as they underestimated their opponents. Unrelenting, you hear wild activity from the trees as more prepare to emerge. To your surprise, instead of charging reinforcements, several are flung into the clearing. The ground quakes and trees convulse as numerous treants break into the grove. Among them, you think you see Willowwill, but features are difficult to determine as many of the treants are bred of the same type of tree.
The largest of them charges into the clearing, smashes the thorn wall, and stands over Tallgrass. Looking around the clearing, some centaur hold bows at the ready, but many are uncertain of what to do. The man-like tree surveys the area and those present before speaking. He stands 20' tall, easily dwarfing all but the great tree in the center. "You all would defile the Verdant Grove in such a way," he speaks to all present, his voice a deep, resonating bass, "Caleandron received just retribution for his deeds. Tallgrass has been punished and more for breaking his exile." Turning to your party, the great treant addresses as a whole, "You have brought violence to our home. You will now stand in judgement before The Verdant."
As though on cue, an elf woman steps out from within the cave and surveys the carnage. There is no surprise in her features, or really any for that matter. With a wave of her hand, Perrin's wall sinks back into the earth and the arrows in Tallgrass turn to dust. She gives a wave for you all to approach and walks back into the cave. There is an uneasy shift in the treant as he allows you all to pass underground.

Why do these well armed centaurs not even challenge the lizardmen? Why do they feel nothing like the call for help we heard?"
The goliath breathes heavily, both for his wounds and for the rage that burns in his veins. He wants, he needs more blood. He looks at the centaur that had fallen before him and was about to fulfill his menance and cut its head, but one look from his captain refrains him.
He shrugs and let the adrenaline wear off while taking out the rest of the arrows in his body.

Tallgrass stays outside, dumbfounded by the centaurs' attack. The thought of open malice was an unthinkable reality that shakes the firbolg to the core.
As you follow The Verdant Lady, you quickly realize the massive scale of her home-tree. After winding through a long tunnel, at least twenty feet underground, a cavernous room opens and your hostess turns to address you. Her voice is hoarse and flat, "Why have you come here? My husband and I want nothing more than to be left in peace. Even the ones above will not leave us alone."

The room's ceiling and walls are a woven tapestry of roots from the tree above. The ground is an oddly level surface of crushed bedrock. Kyrthas notices that the roots seem overly dry and crumbling. Otherwise, the room is bare of furnishing or detail.
Standing at the other side of the room, The Lady appears supernaturally youthful, but her frame gives away the wearing of time. Where she may have been once radiant and spirited, she now seems tired and weary. Despite this, there is an air of regality about her.

You can see that magic enhanced the vitality of the forest, especially this tree. However, it's not a corrupting magic that is causing the tree to wither, but instead a lack of magic entirely. There is also an air of malice about the woman. It is not natural to her, but induced by something.
(Additional notr I had forgotten before, smaller tunnels branch off from the one you are in now. From the entry tunnel, there is one to the left, right, and center.)
The Lady scowls at Perrin, "I and my husband are Masters of this forest and we have yet to find anything amiss. The trees speak of a strange looming and Tallgrass goes on about an illness in me, but I am as I always have been, and the forest is as well." Her words are earnest, "It is true, my husband has not been well, but it is of no concern to you. Tell those above if you like, they have been sheltered from it for too long anyway. Despite this, there is no other concern for them." She gives a weak smile, "He will be well soon."
