The trees in the area sway with new life. Standing ready to commune with the newcomer. They inform you that no life has approached this spring in some time. Though it looks clear, they say the pool of water has been acting differently in recent months.

Perrin gives a mental bow of thanks to the plants and informs his companions:
"The area seems safe. No obvious poisons or ambushes. However, the plants say the water pool is "different". Perhaps we should sleep at a safe distance from the water."
He gives the Stout a quick pat on the pouch that holds the magic mug and then turns and scampers, squirrel-like, up a nearby tree. Settling into the crotch of two branches where he can see the camp as well as the surrounding environs, the second-story man finishes his "nest" by rearranging some foliage to hide himself.
"T'ain't 'sactly the eaves above the Grand Market, but at least there ain't no pigeons."
Dagger in one hand, crossbow in the other, the thief rests.
The goliath looks to the water with curiosity. “How can a stream of water behave differently? It seems quite normal to him... the water going dowmward, following the natrual step of the terrain, making sounds when crossing the rocks... all pretty normal to him...” but the time he notices it he was standing near the stream looking at the water.
You there are no animals nearby that you can hear even for being nighttime, it's unusually still. If you'd like to roll a nature check for the water, your welcome to it.

There's an oddity to the grove. Usually a body of water would create an abundance of life and trees. This is not the case here as you notice the first line of trees growing much smaller than the rest and a good distance away from the pond (about 40'). If you decide to test the water, it is refreshing as it appears, but has a taste similar to onions and bile. The pool is conical and deep at its center, maybe 15'.

(Perception: 19) Due to Robe of Eyes, Vaike has advantage on perception checks, 360 degree vision, darkvision, and he's also casting detect magic which works for 10 minutes as long as I have concentration. It marks anything magical with a faint blue aura of magic. With all that information, is there anything he notices in the clearing, or in the spring itself?
With Vaike's Robe of God-Eyes, there is nothing abnormal about the pool. This information, along with the collective Nature checks, you determine that the pool is normal, but was fouled by some outside means. The befouling seems to be diluted now; whatever was here has long since passed.
The remaining area is clear. The strange stillness of the forest seems to be a caused by a general exodus from the one-tainted pool. The sun has been set for an hour or two, it will be at least another 10 before it rises again. You can determine a watch rotation if you like.
(Meta-game detail, this will cover 3 standard encounter rolls if you choose to rest into daybreak (12 hours). Another survival roll - DC 15 - will eliminate 1 of the 3. Even if you get attacked, I will consider the night a Long Rest)

Perrin pours some tea leaves in a small metal net which he places a the bottom of a kettle, and gets the water steaming. He then adds honey from his magical jug, and a sprinkle of other spices producing a sweet honey-flavoured tea.

Watching her companions, and hearing how the water was befouled, Sohyme closes her eyes and reaches out to her patron, Fraz’Urb-luu. Feeling for his presence deep seated in her mind. She calls out to him. Feeling a slight response or at least acknowledgment of presence she speaks to him.
"Fraz’Urb-luu, I know you are aware where I am at all times. I beseech your infallible knowledge, and gifts. Could you tell me what has happened to this grove and the water specifically. So that I may send a mighty demon back to your realm in your name." Her mind goes silent awaiting a response from her mighty patron.

Your patron reaches out in displeasure at the knowledge of the pool. The thing that did this is only somewhat known, but you receive immense feelings of indignation and rage. Whatever is responsible bears a grudge as old as creation itself. It is something which lurks in the deep fathoms, spending eons in waiting for the vengence it seeks. Beyond that, there is little known, but your patron communicates that there may be another with more understanding.... If successful, they can provide more insight, but that is a task for your patron.
