Kurik rolls his eyes, "If you can't revive me then let us not go down that route. May have to let it grow bigger. The bigger it is, the easier it would be to find and cut out. I guess we will deal with it as it comes."
Mal sighs, "Why don't we seek the advice of a priest in town, if there is one, maybe they can help. Though that would be attention to ourselves which is not really what we want to do. What we need to be doing is getting ourselves under way and start our day...night...well whatever time it is here. And get after these three weird wizards or get ourselves to the mines to take care of the issues there."
Kari pushes aside her empty bowl. The mines sound good, there's no wind down there. Say Badger, you wouldn't happen to have anything that would protect a person from a wind, would you? Not 'the' wind, the normal wind, a specific wind. What's the name for it, that's the difference between a person and an animal? The wind is more like that, a smart wind. It, uh, might be looking for me. She glances around as she says the last part, almost seeming embarrassed.
Protection from Wind? Hmmm... Badger thinks for a moment. Nothing in my current repertoire. I have several spells that can create wind. But if this sentient wind is searching for you, perhaps you need protection from detection. That might be useful for Mal also, to keep our mission clandestine. Perhaps I can research something...

How does a red dragon blow out the candles on its birthday cake?
The group finishes their breakfast amid their various conversations and rather hectic evening. Eventually though it's time to head out. Heavy jackets are pulled on, hats pulled on, scarves wrapped about necks, then faces as everything is buttoned up. Finally, with backpacks ready, the gloves go on and feeling a sweat start to build in the clothes you step out into a wall of icy cold air. It's dark out, though a dim glow to the south indicates that you'll get a few hours of dimly lit sky for the next while. The town of Termalaine is quiet...with not many people moving about the cold wind swept snowy streets. You trudge down the road past the barns where your animals are stored and begin the short walk to the mines. The walking action keeps you relatively warm though numbness in toes and fingers sets in. The outerwear grows stiff and frosty in the firm wind. Kari keeps an eye out for a malevolent wind spirit but the trip seems uneventful. Kurik feels an unsettling movement occasionally in his stomach, as if he were having troubles digesting something and is preoccupied most of the walk to the mines. The trail skirts along the edge of the icy forest and eventually arrives at some low foot hills. An ice covered mining camp that is fully deserted is set above ground. A wide downward sloping tunnel is cut into a hillside. Rails guide the path into it. Outside stocks of wood, extra carts, and various other mining equipment lays under heaps of snow.
Everything appears quiet. There are no fresh tracks in the snow leading in or out of the mine.

"Let me go take a look real quick and see what I see." Mal says as she makes her way cautiously toward the front entrance.
Perception: 12
Stealth: 33
Mal will hug the rock wall and move towards the entrance, looking to see if she can find any tracks or any trace of a trap, buried in the snow anywhere.
[OOC: Again Dice Gods, really?!? I have a +13 in stealth!!!]
Kurik looks up after the arrive having been deep in thought about this thing inside him. He stops before going in, an idea relayed to him by Worm. Figuring it is worth a try he has has Worm cast his magic. In a language far to vile to repeat threats are issues to the small thing in his gut.
---
Worm, as in the earworm, will spend a charge to cast Dissonate Whispers at the parasite within Kurik. It would take 7 psychic damage and must use its reaction to travel as far away from the caster as it can. Wis save DC 15 for half and not have to move.
---
As Worm did that, Kurik pulled out his shield and prepared for danger.

While Mal looks approaches the entrance to the mine Kari takes a ready stance and looks around at the surrounding area. Who knows, falling or blowing snow may have just concealed any tracks from the mine. She looks around at the hills, the piles, any vegetation, watching for movement. She picks a spot to stare at for a moment and then pays attention to her peripheral vision like she used to on night watch.
Mal approaches the mine entrance. Just within, perhaps five feet past the entrance, is a big sign. Written in surprisingly eloquent calligraphy, "Kobold Only!" is written.
Mal, though. certianly the most quiet she's ever been, perhaps due to the crunching snow beneath her feat, still doesn't notice any guards, a watch, or any signs of life whatsoever. Just a dark, downward sloping mine cart tunnel with 7 foot high ceilings. Likewise, all is quiet and peaceful for Kari.
Kurik looks at himself, wondering if he thinks he might be able to cast a spell on something inside him...but realizes the spell magical energy needs to travel in a direct path, which means it would hit him before his target...he'd have to open himself up to get a straight shot at the creature.

Ack! Kobolds! Badger says sourly when he spots the sign. They are such a nuisance. He continues to look curiously at the well-written sign for a few moments...
Investigation: 24 Naturally Badger doubts the average kobold could write, much less write so nicely, so he looks for any clues that might suggest who actually wrote the sign, or any signs of kobolds in the immediate vicinity.

Badger trudges through the snow over to the entrance where Mal is and starts looking about. He checks out the writing and notices the nail grooves of kobolds clawed fingers along the wood edges, and the post, and properly concludes that in fact the entire thing seems to have been created by a Kobold....but..somehow a Kobold that can write well.
Looking around the group sees that Kobold prints do seem to frequent the area, going both in and out, but just not in the last 2 days since it snowed. This whole yard has been left undisturbed for a couple days. The entrance is not used frequently.

Not seeing anything move around outside, Kari moves a bit closer with the others. Looking at the letters and the sign she says Well, are we going in with torches or sneaking up on them in the dark?
Badger is comfortable enough underground without light, and assumes the goliath and half-orc are too. He doesn't even own any torches or lanterns, but offers to hold one for Mal's benefit, so she can have two hands free for her weapons. Badger should manage just fine with one hand free for his crystal ball.

"I'm big and not so quiet. Do you prefer I hang back?" Kurik asks as he forms up with the others. To emphasis this even further, he bounces a little, setting off a slight *chink chink* noise from his armor.
(Irony: Badger and Kurik both have 120' darkvision, but the lowest Passive Perception.)
Badger suggests Kari go first, as she has decent darkvision, and no-one will be in her way if she has to charge into battle. Next should be Mal, the other capable warrior. Then Badger behind her, holding the torch and helping with lookout. And finally Kurik, watching and guarding the rear.
A torch gives off 20' radius bright and another 20' dim light. Badger behind Mal should give her a visual range of 35 feet. It's not great, but it's the best he can offer (considering he knows at least two spells that he could have cast to help her see, if only he'd thought of memorising them this morning)

Do you want Badger to hold the torch or Kurik to light up his sword? If he lights up the sword now, it would provide light and save an action later on to do so.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kari is comfortable going in first, but she's not as keen to be back lit. Why don't I stay just out of the light, that should be close enough in case of trouble. ((say 50 feet from whoever is carrying the torch)) Then she smacks her forehead with one hand. The light law! We can't light anything up out here, we'll need to go in first. Such a stupid law, what does freezing in your own home have to do with the winter getting warmer. If anything you'd think it would be the opposite, they should be lighting bonfires all over to thaw things out. She grumbles quietly to herself as she prepares to go in the mine first.
The group proceeds into the mine, with Kari leading the group well ahead of the light. You follow the rather winding mine track trail. The cold air leaves a layer of frost upon the surface of the cave which sparkles with the distant magical light emanating from the group a ways behind. Shrouded in darkness she slips forward, feet stepping on the wooden ties of the rails quietly.
The tracks wind their way gently downwards and eventually into the first open mining cave. Racks holding picks and hammers are nailed to the walls of this small cavern. The floor is covered with rock dust and tracks. The frigid air is still and quiet. There are two caves that lead off into darkness on to the right and one left. The last cave leads straight through from across. The mine cart tracks lead that way through the room. Kari glances around in the darkness, her eyes picking up human boot prints, intermingled with newer kobold tracks, as well as what looks like overly large rat tracks.
