This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
“Umm no I was just worried about it doing something bad magically, but I’m not sure why I can hear it and you can’t.” Cerlinde blushes. “Any idea what the nature of this magic might be?
she thoroughly searches the room, even looking behind the picture on the wall. 19
"it gives off an aura of transmutation magic.....this place has lots of cats, maybe the horn causes them to change? Or opens a door? Let me know if I should try the horn again...also, watch out for goat ears and an a Billy goat gruff growing from my head haha "
(Quick note on the horn: I am 90% sure that its effect would fall under Transmutation, but it's not completely clear. Don't get yourselves too twisted up about it, but feel free to experiment further.)
Cerlinde is unable to uncover anything in the room that would explain the function of the horn.
Mohdrak took stock of his findings. If Fistandia was married or had a boyfriend, he found it hard to make that distinction from what little he found, that meant there was one person extra who would know how to get in and out of the manor. Even in the unlucky event that they were stranded here for a prolonged period of time, someone on the outside would have reason the check in.
Unless he was trapped in the manor like they were. Mohdrak entertained the possibility but discarded it after a moment's thought. If someone else was with them in this place, surely they would have encountered them by now. Still, it was a useful bit of information to be filed away.
The minotaur was pulled out of his musings by the feeling of someting soft rubbing against his calves. Another cat it seemed. He picked it up and cradled it. 'Aren't you just the most adorable thing?'Mohdrak smiled as he gave the cat headpats, momentarily disregarding his surroundings and situation.
After sufficiently scratching the cat's ear, Mohdrak turned to Ollezal. 'I don't think a horn that makes no sound is of use all that much, let alone some sort of dog whistle for elves.'
(So just to be clear, we have searched the chest of drawers, behind the dragon painting, and under the bed, right?)
Between Mohdrak and Cerlinde, the room has been thoroughly searched. Aside from the book and the horn, this appears to be the least magical, and generally least interesting, room in the mansion. (Maybe this is where Fistandia would do her medieval, magical equivalent of a digital detox?)
This cat is not wearing a collar and I don't believe any of the cats that you've previously encountered were either. Mohdrak does recognize this as one of the cats that was laying around the kitchen while he was cooking.
Cerlinde says. “Ok- well if we’ve searched everywhere, then perhaps we have the complete set of these books…. Anyone have an idea as to what the password might be?” (I need a chunk of time to go through and find all the letters we found :)”.
Cerlinde updates her map with the floor plan of the mansion. She’s still not convinced there’s not more secret rooms to be revealed.
(So the map shows another room to the east of the bedchamber... is that not really there?)
(Ha, almost forgot about that room. The author of the module neglected to include that note in the text box for the bedroom and I neglected to notice that omission.)
Addendum to room description: on the eastern wall of the bedroom, behind some large floor to ceiling drapes, there is a lovely French door that opens to a small balcony.

Lining up the books and putting them in various orders, with everyone’s help, she finally comes up with the word liberty. “I won’t say it aloud- Seems like a fitting word. I’m not quite ready to go back- have we explored everything? We should get the mapping things from the safe room you found, I suppose. Do we want to rest here, just in case?” She steps out onto the balcony to see what there is to see.
The door from the bedroom leads to a wrought iron balcony lined with slate flagstones. Greenery and colorful flowers are visible in the arboretum below. The peculiar miasma swirls above you at an uncomfortably close distance. While you can't feel it, the mere anticipation of contact with the murky tendrils of indigo fog is slightly unsettling.
" that would do it I suppose. I say let's grab any weapons (who else wants darts?), And try out the password. I'm sure Cassandra would appreciate our work"
Ollezall will assist to grab out the remaining useful items from the panic room/safe.
If the others are Ok with it, Cerlinde will take the cartographer’s kit, 5 darts, and 5 days of rations. She will also take the books- she is thinking they might be a contribution to the haven library. “Well, this has been fun, I really hope we can come back sometime. I wonder what happened to the mistress of the house? Do we want to rest or eat one more magnificent meal before we return to the mundane world of Haven? I could spend weeks in the secret chained Library room here alone- researching what may help us with Haven’s dimensional stability problems . I can also cast identify on this horn if you give me a few minutes.”
Time permitting- Cerlinde sits on the bed and ritual casts identity, chanting while waving an owl feather over a large pearl and holding the horn.
(How much gold each, should we divide up the remaining loot now?)
Syd muses, "The apprentice who left was attacked by an imp or something when he went through the door. We should be prepared for a similar attack before we activate the portal."

Cerlinde's spell reveals that the horn is a Horn of Silent Alarm. This item in particular is crafted from a gorgon's horn, although it's hard to fathom where the creator might have found such a thing. Both Ollezall and Cerlinde note that handling the horn, such as tapping on it, creates no sounds.
(I interpreted the original use of the horn to be directed at Cerlinde since she and Ollezall were the ones dealing with it at the time. It's also ambiguous as to whether or not the player of the horn hears the blast, so I chose that they would not. There might be an errata or Crawford tweet that clarifies this, but I didn't look into it.)
" I don't want to blow my trumpet, but I have that effect on the ladies...."
( I am pulling the most smarmy face with these puns. I just need a pencil moustache/mustachio now to complete the look haha)

"That would make it a horn of improve appearance," jokes Syd.

(Cool! Never heard of that item! Ironically.)
