"Could see if something down in the lock is damaged, but if it is, someone'll have to send a team out to work on it, not sure that's a priority, this is a smaller outpost, not used as much as it once was..."

Kolose grips his tools uncomfortably. He's not got it in him to point out that "help ourselves first, then him," is exactly what he was suggesting. Instead his comment seems to come from somewhere buried very deep within him, the tone almost menacing.
"Knowledge is power. Power allows you to act." he says it as a matter of fact, a creed he is subscribed to even if he has forgotten putting down the vow. He calms down just a second after, the light in his eyes fading a bit.
"...If there is some manner of time dilation involved in his perception, he could be completely off on his remarks. He could think nobody comes here, when that is not the case. He can't have had the orb for too long, considering he has not starved while entranced."
With those words he seems content enough to back off for now, listening intently to what they could perhaps do to help.
Neth can see the turbulent swirl of water where it is being sucked down to a portion of the lock fifteen feet or so below the surface, but as he cautiously moves closer, can feel it drawing him in, closer and closer...

Neth looks around for anything solid and close ((say within 10 feet)) while trying to judge if he’s a strong enough swimmer to overpower the pull of the water.
There's a submerged stalagmite that Neth could cling to, the top has been shorn off at some point, perhaps to make passage more safe for boats. The pull is steady, and Neth is a decently strong swimmer, but he can feel that if he were to get to close, he'd be fighting against the weight of all of the water above and around him trying to get through that hole... and if he were to get pulled in against its exit... well that water would keep trying to go through him. The idea of being extruded through a hole in the lock mechanism is not a comforting one.
In the lock house, Galingal finds some rope, and Stena chats with the duergar.
"Hmmm? Oh, it's about a day by boat, about the same on steeder, a bit longer on foot. You said there was some sort of orb I was holding? Where did that get to?"

"Uhhh, pretty straight forward. If the lock is broke, I'll have to report it, so I'll be headed that way. Maybe we'll find my- wife on the way!", he says hopefully.

Galingal takes the rope to the waters edge, looking to see if Neth is visible. He ties off an end and tosses the other end in the direction of Neth to give him help climbing back out if he needs it.
"If Neth doesn't see the problem agree we just walk," Galingal says to Stena.
He pauses and looks over at the duergar and back to Stena.
"Anyone know their calendar? Maybe see if he knows what day it is?" Galingal says.
Stena grants the old fool a malevolent glare.
"We help us first then we help him. Be helpful or find somewhere else to cause problems."
She refocuses on Thorum,
"What else can we do to get it going?"
She'll pass him some water and something to eat.

"We got a few that can handle it. What would they be looking for?"
Stena helps him bring the water to his mouth and then the food.
"How far is Grackelstak (sp?) out from here?"

((Clears throat))
"Erm.. I can take a look I suppose."
Neth looks into the whirlpool cautiously...
And then jumps into the water at the nearest "safe" spot he can find, looking for anything obvious as he orients himself underwater.

Galingal looks around the lock house for rope, or anything rope like.

"Good to know. You have any maps around or it is a pretty straight shot on foot?"
She shrugs at his question about the orb,
"Last I saw of the orb was back at your place. Not sure where it went. "
She says mostly truthfully.
"Uhhh, pretty straight forward. If the lock is broke, I'll have to report it, so I'll be headed that way. Maybe we'll find my- wife on the way!", he says hopefully.

Stena looks out towards the lock and nods,
"Well, we are heading there by foot as well if the lock doesn't work so we'd accompany you. More eyes the better."
She'll explain what Thorum said to the others and say,
"Maybe we just dump the boat and walk the rest of the way and not worry about the lock."

Galingal jerks the rope around a few times, trying to make it more noticeable in case Neth missed that it's there.
Neth thankfully grabs the rope and begins to pull himself back out of the water.
”There is a hole down there sucking all the water through. Maybe we can block it?”
"Sounds risky," Galingal says. "The lock-keeper will guide us on land path."
He looks over at Stena and nods.
"We should walk."
Galingal will gather what supplies are available from the boat and get ready to walk.
