Lex considers a moment, then replies to the drow in Undercommon.
"Whatever the reason, you're a prisoner here, same as us. So long as you do nothing to betray us, I'm willing to vouch to bring you along. But understand that trust is easily broken, and you will not be getting a second chance."
((Can I get an insight check on his story? Does he truly believe his own innocence? 4))
She'll repeat the information he gave about the corrected numbers of drow to the others in Common. Then she'll make her way towards Stena and the myconid, sitting cross-legged next to them. She offers Stena a brief smile of greeting, then focuses her attention on the myconid. She whispers in Undercommon,
"Hello, friend. You're very young to be in a place like this. How did you end up here?"
She then looks back to Stena and says in Common,"I don't believe we've met yet. I'm Lex."
((I'll preemptively make a persuasion check for the myconid too, just in case: 14))
"I don't like them behind me either, but we probably should see how many the drow weed out. Better a dead orc than a dead dwarf or gnome."
Stena gives a warning look to Lex as she approaches and doesn't return the smile before focusing back in on the myconid and holding her hand were it was and whispering in undercommon,
"It's okay, aye won't hurt ye. Can ye talk to meh?"
When Lex relays the information about the proper number of drows, Thom says "Nineteen total? And Elites? AND Spiders? Wow... I think the waterfall might be the best course of action, yeah? You know... Geronimo and all. Can ye swim??"
A few minutes later, Thom will then make eye contact with the prince and shake his head at him with a look of annoyance, confusion and disgust after the long undercommon speech from Lex and the Drow prisoner. Thom didn't understand it, only the piece that Lex translated about the numbers, of course.
But did the prince?
Thom continues to send his look of annoyance to the prince, kind of fishing for a reaction at this point.
As some of the others talk of plans and escape, Lia listens to everything but also takes a closer look at her situation, to really take it all in: her manacles, the bindings, the locks and clasps, and also those of her cell-mates (to see if they are identical aside from the masks), and her clothes. ‘If we do get out of here, some of these details might matter’, she thinks to herself…
@DM…
((OOC: @Spider… Can you remind us what the manacles are like? Metal and chains? Or leather? rope? And Are they just hands? Hands and feet? Neck? Waist? Chains/rope between limbs? Arms front or behind? I think I knew all this at the start but I just can’t remember!
And we’re not chained/roped together are we? Or tethered to a wall or anything?
You can't make heads or tails of whether he is telling the truth about his innocence, it's hard to get a read between his bloodshot eyes, his battered features and him occasionally looking down as he rubs his temples. If he is innocent, he's certainly getting a raw deal, and if he is a murderer of another drow, perhaps that's a good start?
Lex and Stena approach the myconid, which huddles back from both of them as they wait patiently and talk in soothing tones that it may or may not understand.
Thom, the Prince holds your eyes for a moment before looking away, placing his chin on his paw-like hands with a deep sigh. He seems a bit more despondent following getting globbed this morning.
Lia surveys the assorted prisoners and their various restraints and garments. Each of them has been left with whatever underclothes they had, most of which are quite soiled, the only washing they've gotten being incidental. The exceptions would be the Prince and the mushroom-folk, who do not have any clothing. No one has any footwear. All of the prisoners with arms and a neck have manacles at the wrist and a hinged iron collar locked around their neck. A chain runs from a clasp on the front of the collar to the join the chain running between the two manacles on your wrists in front of you. Your hands cannot be more than 6-8 inches apart from one another, and there isn't enough chain from your neck to your wrists to be able to extend your arms fully (with your elbows against your torso, you can make a 90 degree angle to be able to use your hands in front of you). Another, slightly less restrictive chain runs from the same link between your hands to an iron belt around your middle. This chain prevents you from raising your hands over your head. They all seem well used, you're certainly not the first prisoners to wear them. In addition, you yourself have the gag block with feeding tube they reserve for *trouble makers*, and Galingal has the leather mask over his eyes. Both being made primarily of leather, they would seemingly be easier to remove than the iron restraints. When they've taken you all out before, you've often been roped or chained together by an eyelet in the back of your belts (they have you face the wall under threat of crossbow, link the work group they are taking out, then escort you from the slave pens). When you are returned, you are released to roam the slave pens. It is perpetually cool, and those of you that have been able to overcome distrust may huddle together for warmth, though it doesn't seem to bother the Underdark denizens to the same degree that it affects the surface folk. Lex in particular is delightfully warm.
Lex and Stena:
After a few more minutes of patient non-violence, you can each give me another Persuasion check (or one of you can give advantage via Helping). I had a DC 15 in mind, and you both came in just under that!
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"I don't like water. It stifles me. But I won't sink,"she replies to Thom. The distaste is evident in her voice. But she's nodding along - she seems to agree that the waterfall is their best bet.
Lex will continue to sit next to the Myconid for as long as it takes, despite Stena's apparent annoyance at her presence. She occasionally mutters to it in Undercommon, staying along the lines of 'we're friends and aren't going to hurt you.'
(I can try again with advantage. I think I have a bit better bonus to it. 23)
(Aaaaand I forgot to hit the advantage button. Here's the second roll: 15)
Thom replies to Lex "perhaps tomorrow if they have us cleaning the walkways again we'll get a better look at the falls then, yeah? Or worst case just get a better look out there."
Lia looks at herself. Her bare feet are sore and covered in grime. Her normally pale, pearlescent skin is now almost the colour of the walls, and covered in grime and dust.
She wears just brief shorts and a vest, both made of a linen that would have been almost white at one point. The front of her vest is covered in splatters of food and blood. The back is torn all of the way up to the neckline and shredded almost to tattered ribbons.
She doesn’t remember when that happened and doesn’t want to think about the circumstances that might have caused it. Maybe she fell back when she was struck.
When the others speak of swimming, she nods but looks again at her manacles and lifts her hands up as far as they’ll go, jangling the chains for everyone to hear.
Then she gets up and walks a little closer to the bars. She tries to piece together in her mind the layout of this place based on what she’s seen and can remember…
((OOC: @DM can you post the overall maps again? Or are they somewhere easy to find? Thanks))
(([edit…] sorry… forgot she couldn’t speak!… I’ve edited speech out, but left the gist in. lol!… Oh and playing d&d PbP and not being able to talk is insane! Lol))
((OOC: Can I assume they’re just gutted? But all else is intact (if a little rotten by now)?))
- Yep! I would say so, right Spider? Just gutted, correct?
She looks and feels for the head, the mouth, the teeth. She tries to wobble one or two of the sharp front-teeth out of the mouldering rabbit’s skull, ((if she can?))
- I would think that she would be able to get a tooth out for sure. Spider can confirm!
Either way, Thom is amused at 'La' playing with the rabbits tied on his head like a chin strap.
((Maps I posted before should still be visible, don't remember what page through. Working on better ones, but today is my 10 hour day on campus, so won't be until tomorrow.))
((@Thom, confirmed to Lia on previous page. Bad shape (7 days old), but bits still in there that might be of use.))
Yes I got the impression DM let Lia get a sharp tooth (for cutting but not a real weapon I think they said). I meant to add it to her inventory. I’ll add it now.
Also, initially ((in another dimension?!)) she was going to take the rabbits off Thom’s head as soon as he gave consent, put them on the floor and repeatedly smash one of the skulls into pieces under her heel to get the tooth, then put it all back on Thom’s head like nothing happened. At the last minute I changed her mind. Lol
Galingal turns to the sound of someone coming closer and then scratching on the ground. He listens as someone else, further away speaks and asks questions, but it sounds as if they are reading. It must be 'La' who has come closer.
"It black, worked iron, circle," Galingal begins. "In middle, her symbol, the head of raven."
He pauses then continues. "If focus on raven, able to channel more power."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Lia tries to carefully follow Galingal’s description. And she takes note of the name ‘Raven Queen’. She tries to recall and visualise the symbol in her mind ((does she know it? Knowledge (history) check(?): 8 )).
“I might be able to break them as well,” Lex suggests when Galingal mentions unlocking the manacles. She strains her arms against the chains, seeing if there’s any give and if she might be able to snap them if she wanted.
((It's getting crowded in the Slave Pens...))

"Myconid. Stay back."

"All could drown with these," Galingal says holding out his chained wrists. "If find gear, have tools to unlock. Then jump and swim."
He takes a deep breath.

Finally remembering the one called Jimjar asked about the Queen, he turns to where he last heard the voice.
"You may know her as the Raven Queen."
Lia moves over towards Galingal, interested, and tries to motion for Lex or someone to read him the words she writes on the ground:
“ A M U L E T ?… D E S C R I B E ? …”.
She nods urgently. And gestures vigorously with her hands for ‘more’ if his description comes up short…
