Thom nods at Galingal as he helps Lia and the dwarves. He pulls back for a moment when Shuushar tries to put his fishy paw on his head, but then realizes that it's some type of healing magic as he feels the cold wave surge quickly through his body. "Thank you, mate."
Thom agrees with Galingal about finding camp ASAP. He makes a face that kids sometimes make when they are offered vegetables when Stena mentions potentially eating the Stirges. He says "I'll pass on that, Ma'am." and is glad that they didn't end up trying to eat them.
"Well, that was another close call, yeah? Are we all accounted for? I sure as heck hope we can manage to get an uninterrupted rest tonight, yeah? Get the blood back, you know." and he spits on one of the dead stirges.
Thom keeps his eyes peeled for any other hostiles that might've heard the rocks as well as to find the camp spot before we head into the town the next day.
Thom only hears the fading echoing disturbances of the fight and the lapping of small waves on the rocky shore.
You hurry onward, the tunnel curving to the left, away from the large body of water, you cross an stream that spills out of a narrow crack before falling to your right and the lake below (potable water, able to fill waterskins if you take a few minutes to do so), and splash your way further along. You're eventually spit back out near the shore, the dark waters looming beyond sight to your right. You move along, a small grove of zhurkwoods illuminated by luminous growths up their trunks ahead of you.
That's when those of you with the best hearing catch the creek and splash of something behind you. Then a thump. Thump. Thump. Thump. Croaky voices all out in Undercommon, a confusing babble of threats and excitement to those of you that can understand it. The sound seems to be approaching from the lake behind you.

Lia washes her face and hands a little downstream in the stream, drinks and fills her waterskin. She finishes by prestidigitating herself clean and dry, but she finds water is better on.. blood…
Retconned, so the party can attempt to hide…
When the noises and voices approach from behind, she spins and attempts to cast faerie fire, but has no spells left, so it comes out just as the light cantrip on a pebble somewhere at the feet of those who approach. “Who’s there?!…”, she blurts out, in common, and backs away a little still holding her hands out to cast (hoping they can’t sense that she’s out of spells).
OOC: Oh sorry… cross posts… want to roll initiative for who moves first?!?!
:-)
Maybe it depends on exactly the layout of where we are in relation to the creatures and the zhurkwoods. I read it as the creatures were practically on top of us and the zhurkwoods were way off. But if it’s the other way around then hiding would probably be preferable.
Galingal looks to the direction of the voices and then looks at Shuushar.
"Are they kuo-toa?" he asks in a whisper.
He then decides to also slip into the zhurkwoods after Stena. Better to see what's coming and then come out and greet it if that's the right call rather than get caught in the open.

Ok Thom would totally be right on Stena, following and hiding exactly where she is. Maybe in an annoying way, but not meaning to. He'd whisper back "me too ma'am"

Shuushar bobs his head yes, and gives a bit of a worried croak. "Gathering sacrifices. Maybe mean us?"
Stena slips quietly into the grove of zhurkwoods, with Galingal and Thom following suit... except for the quietly part.
The way is wide enough here to be moving two or three across as you move into the zhurkwoods, but it's at that point that kuo-toa step out from where they were hiding among the trunks and hurl nets at Galingal and Thom!
((The KTs took you by surprise, and you'll be surprised the first round, but Stena did escape their notice. She's still surprised, but won't be targeted.))
Galingal, still exhausted from the fight with the stirges does his best to take in the situation. They're in no shape to fight a heavily armed raiding party.
"Shuushar," he calls "If we volunteer to be sacrifices will they stop attacking?"
Galingal then disengages from the kuo-toa attacking, and in order to buy some time to think and see if the beginning of a plan has merit he blinks out of vision, reappearing 30' further away from the kuo-toa, deeper into the zhurkwood. Once there he moves another 30'
Action: Disengage
Bonus Action: Blessing of the Raven Queen - teleports 30' away.
Surprised by the fishfolk, Lia casts about for allies. Stena and others are disappearing into the undergrowth. Galingal asks his question, then disappears. Lex is protecting Stool. Lia feels a little alone and exposed…
”Uhg!…”, she blurts out in desperation. Then in common, she continues, “We come in peace!!… We’re heading to…”. She looks around for help, “The Cow Toe village!… Cow Toe!”.
((She either used her action to pursuade, or just ‘dodge’. And she would back away, but slowly)).
