As they head back to the Inn, Sunny remains aware of their surroundings keeping Chewy also on guard constantly scanning ground and sky.
Stepping into the Inn, she yields for the others to speak not doing well with customs on their last encounter but looking forward to a meal and a bed long enough for a rest.
Sweeps tries to recall some of the battle in the mansion as they walk back to the inn, answering Sunny’s questions “They were some sort of shadow creatures that appeared to be made of souls of others. All I know is that my maul did little damage to them. Perhaps we can get our weapons blessed or enchanted before we return?”
As they return to the inn, Sweeps will let Sylvio speak with the bartender, but will pay for a meal and a room for the evening. He is nursing his injuries from the mansion and the villa and is near the end of his strength.
Noticing the signs of the crow and, maybe, something else, Sylvio searches for a route through which he could move undetected, scout ahead. Unfortunately, no such place was in view. Relying as much to his companions he sees as the group agrees with returning to the inn where they took rest earlier. It would be good enough to restore their strength and if the battle in the mansion served as indication, they would need it.
On their way back Sweeps and Sunny discuss the spectral figures they had fought earlier. All the while the ranger, and her faithful companion, Chewy, keep their senses sharp, trying to notice any approaching danger. So high was their alert that they could practically see through the surrounding noises. The streets where mostly desert, with the occasional drunkard here and there. As they approached the tavern the sounds of the nightlife in the Field Way echoed. Music, alternating between the simple and the crude, a drunkard here and there, screaming or throwing up in the street. The laughter of the harlots and their clients blended with bar fights. At some point the beastmaster could swear she heard someone being mugged in a dark alley. Alas, the five return to their improvised base of operations.
The tavern kept it is silent atmosphere, although it had a larger number of patrons. Coin is spent and food is procured. The same kind of broth served earlier, but noticeably fresher. So much so that it almost had actual taste. Cheap drinks help push the meal down and more bones are given to the mastiff. Satisfied, or as satisfied as one could be in this kind of establishment, the adventurers retire to bed. There sleep comes in easy, a courtesy of their weariness.
@Gabriel:
As you drift into slumber your body is taken by a strange sensation. You feel weightless. No, not weightless. You try to open your eyes, but when you do the darkness remain and as confusion hits your mind you feel yourself sinking. You try to struggle and before you could notice you are drowning. You feel the water invading your body, making your lungs burn while crying for air. You try to swim, to pull yourself back. I can’t let it end here, you think. I need to be faster, stronger. Despair taking over your mind. Faster, stronger. You try to use your powers, but nothing happens. Faster, stronger. Your eyes start regaining the light and you barely con see your hands. They were red. Faster, stronger. When you finally sense that can reach the surface your stop and notice something holding you.
Cadaveric hands, white as bone, dragged you by your ankles and torso. By your pulse and neck, strangling, the nails tearing your skin. In each touch you hear a curse. Kill the lords. Make them suffer. Beyond the water you see a hot glow, like the light of a fire. You suddenly think of Delemekiel.
Your wake up call is the sound of your recent friend, Gabriel, shaking uncontrollably on his bed. Convulsing, actually.
Notes: Everyone but Gabriel wakes up. It is morning and Gabriel is shaking on his bed. In case of doubt, as always, feel free to as in the OOC chat.
@Everyone, you finish a Long Rest and gain 1 point of inspiration. @Everyone, what would you like to do? @Gruba, make me a perception check.
Amadi quickly moves to the side of Gabriel. "What is going on? Has he been poisoned?" is his first instinct as he looks the Aasimar over trying to see a reason for the convulsions.
Sunny wakes with a start to both the sounds of motion and distress coming from Gabriel and Chewy nuzzling her. She rises quickly and moves within visual of Gabriel looking him over perception19 before moving closer to look for anything near him that could be causing this, then inspects him with Amadi for the cause of these symptoms. "Let me help however I can." She asks of Amadi before joining him near Gabriel. medicine15
"Chewy alert!" She commands the mastiff firmly to watch their surroundings as they review the cause of his convulsions.
Assuming common shared room this time? Sunny would not object under the circumstances of their adventure and likely not even consider it inappropriate to sleep so near as she's a Tortle. Her view of the area is also considering smaller creatures or insects that could easily invade a poorer space such as this.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Once Sylvio wakes and sees Gabriel’s state he stands back and out of the way as those more used to working with the sick handle the situation. He looks around the room for any signs of someone breaking in or otherwise disturbing them in their sleep. 23 perception around the room
As they hear Gabriel’s body convulsing the four adventurers divide their attention between helping the Aasimar and looking for a source of danger. Something that could have caused his condition. Sunny knows that small creatures, like insects or arthropods, carried toxins capable of inducing that kind of condition, but none of them would be natural of the Waterdeep area. She tries to look for them all the same, commanding Chewy to search the place. The mastiff scans the room while Amadi checks for signs of poison. Neither ranger nor beast can detect a strange presence and the best idea she can have is to contain the spasming body.
Shadeflame is not sure of any substance that could cause that reaction and the tortle tries to stabilize Bryte. The tremors would continue, but it would avoid a scenario where the spellcaster bites his tongue. Sylvio focus his attention at the only two entrances in the room - its door and a single window. He find no signs of intrusion.
@Gabriel
As you look through the surface of the waters you see dark skies where fireballs race across. The air is filled with ash and smoke. Everything evokes a single word in your mind - Hells. The thought send shivers through your body. You can feel the negative, corrupt energy. So terrible, palpable and… Familiar. Yes, you had felt something like that before once. When you examined Jacob’s body, back at the Gundwynd Villa. When the glyph activated and transported you to the Magnificent Mansion. As you realize that Delemekiel’s name crosses your mind again.
You try to free yourself from the phantasmagorical hands, their curses and pleas for vengeance filling your ears. Your efforts seem in vain and for a moment you think you will drown. It is by then that you realize - this is not real. This is a dream. Delemekiel. Yes, Delemekiel must have sent it to you. But why? Normally the celestial is more direct on its contacts. Whatever the reason that nightmare had a message, now clear to you. The magic causing the deaths is infernal in nature, a form of vengeance aimed at the lords.
Now that you are conscious of the nature of this vision you feel like you can end it whenever you want, but what if there is more in there? What if you didn’t see everything your guide wished to show you? Why didn’t Delemekiel contact like usual?
Notes: In case of doubt, as always, feel free to as in the OOC chat.
@Paladin, Amadi cannot think about a substance that would cause Gabriel's tremors. That said, he is not sure this is not poison. @Jynne, you are in the shared room you rented on the day before. Sunny can easily restrain Gabriel's body and control its shaking, but she seems to be unable to do more than that. You may roll Chewy check once again since given his Keen Smell he would have advantage on the roll. @Althax, Sylvio finds no sign of intrusion. @Everyone, what would you like to do?
Realizing the nature of the message, and determined to learn as much as possible before waking, Gabriel takes a deep (and unnecessary) breath before diving back under the water to see what lies beneath...
Sweeps leans in and helps Sunny hold down Gabriel’s body as it shakes in convulsions. He looks at Sunny and Amadi, eyes pleading “Is there anything that can be done for him? Should we send for someone?” Sweeps feels a sense of helplessness set in, this was not something he could attack. He was out of his element.
"It could be poison, but I cannot tell. I am unprepared for this as I have knowledge to detect such things but, as said, it must be prepared ahead of time." Unsure what else to do but with concern for his friend Amadi tries to speak into Gabriel's mind using his telepathy ability.
"Gabriel, Gabriel! Can you hear me? Do you know what is happening to you?"
Sunny looks over at Sweeps and shakes her head. "I can't tell what's causing it." She glances over at Chewy to see if he seems to be noticing anything.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
While watching for Chewy's reaction to the situation and to see if he sees anything she missed, Sunny considers if Lesser Restoration may help in this situation. Will it see whatever is causing this as a disease or condition or will it have no effect at all? religion5
@DM
I know long shot, and if it should be arcana add +1 to the roll. I haven't seen it yet. Using this for discussion with the group in OOC to see what they think. Roll may not apply at all as she's used medicine. Of course, up to you.
Despite his keen senses, Chewy cannot perceive any strange presence on the room. Sunny understand as much in the behavior of her beast companion and understands that either there is no threat nearby or whatever is threatening them is powerful to the point that not even the mastiff can notice its proximity. Such thoughts are pushed away from the ranger’s mind when her humanoid companions start talking. Sweeps suggest seeking help and the tortle admits to find no cause for Gabriel’s spasms. Amadi mentions poison and is sincere about not being able to confirm the possibility. The follower of Gond, seeing no better alternative calls for the convulsing aasimar while Sylvio suggest seeking the help of another healer.
Sunny try to focus her mind, pondering if the use of the spell Minor Restoration could save her ailing friend. From her arcane knowledge that the spell should be effective if whatever is affecting the follower of the Morninglord is indeed a toxin. The problem is, she is not sure Bryte is poisoned. He is certainly not paralyzed or blinded and seems more unconscious than deafened. If the cause of his shaking is not a poison then the spell would be wasted and a battle was sure to happen later in the day. A battle where maybe the restoration would be necessary.

A mansion being set on fire, a woman having her throat cut, a man’s head being crushed by a hammer. You see public executions. Hanging, beheading, breaking on the wheel. You feel sick, in pain and fear. You want to leave the dream, desperately so. But what if it is too early? The Hells, you remember. Or, better yet, cannot forget. How easy would it be for a devil to offer a pact to those wretches? This is it, you realize. The negative energy you felt looking at the crimson skies, the same on the victim’s corpse. The curse, the kotoribako, it was cast upon the city to avenge those souls. It is the fruit of a pact with a devil.
"Gabriel, Gabriel! Can you hear me? Do you know what is happening to you?" Amadi’s voice echoes through the nightmare. Something is happening with you on the outside. You don’t know what. You body may be under attack and you won’t be able to do anything about it unless you wake up.
