Magwynn will also stay up for a bit as well, trying to get a feel for the people of the town, who gets along with whom, if people seem generally comfortable or nervous, what the patterns of the town seem to be, possible wants or needs, if any names come up of traders to avoid or merchants who seem to be of higher repute. Or any more talk of the creatures outside of town.
As Magwynn stays up to speak with the locals with him, davis would work with them, aiding each other in steering conversation to topics, or away from others if the locals start to get uncomfortable with some topic or another.
(OOC: I see the two as giving the help action for any checks needed during this information gathering, as they work with each other to get the same sort of information from the townsfolk.)

“It really was.” He answered putting a hand over his wounds, so much better thanks to Spix magic.“But we made it.”
A small consolation, at least until Goodwinn appeared to talk about their payment. She was well dressed, well made up and well spoken. Just like a hag when first meeting her pray, he though with discomfort. She offered to each and every one of them dinner and a choice between gold and a healing potion.
“Coin for me.” Velan said as she started to leave the table. At first he was reluctant to take the food, but the cold still lingered in his bones. He was cold, wounded, tired and hungry. Maybe it was because of that, but everything tasted fantastically.
Finishing the meal, he bid his goodbyes to the rest of the group and moved to the balcony with his mud in hand. Sipping his ale he listened to the room, waiting for a moment when Melody could speak.
“Pardon me, miss Melody.” Velan started trying to sound less tired than he really was. “Mrs Goodwinn said we should speak to you in order to get a room and help to situate ourselves in the surroundings. Would you know if there is some store in town that deal into magic? I am particularly interested into quality ink, parchment and spell scrolls, but any place selling incense and charcoal would be a great help. Also, I could not help but hear that there is a gnoll problem in surrounding area. Could tell me more about it?”

After his performance, Zin stays in the room as well talking to anyone who liked his performance and seemed willing to share information. He asks about the problems with gnolls recently, local rumors and concerns.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
(To all perception checks) You hear a rumor an alliance was struck with a giant. The giant in exchange for captured beasts bestowed upon them magic that gives them immunity to cold.
(Conversation between Velan and Melody) As you look at Melody you see a lighter looking greenish half orc with brownish red hair. Her hair has various lengths braided together while the rest is pulled back behind her head. She wears a brown tunic vest and pants. A white fur animal pelt that resembles a wolf rests over her shoulder and back. On her side she wields a long sword. You figure in the North a good sword at your side is better then no weapon at all. As she hears your request she reaches down under the counter as she pulls up a key in her right hand. She hold the key for a second then slides it on the table towards you. "Just head up the stairs and on your right pick a room that isn't occupied by one of your companions. From that point on it will be your room until you leave or like the last group die." She reaches back under the bar and grabs a fresh glass. She moves slightly over filling it up with ale. "Head to the Shrine on the east part of town. Talk with Sister Beckany. She is our over all healer and spell caster here. She will probably have what you need." she takes the mug and sets it down at the far end of the table as the serving wench grabs it from the back and heads towards one of the tables delivering it to one of the patrons. "Gnoll problem? Where did you hear that from?" as she stops for a moment to look at you.
“Well, here.”He answered meeting the eyes of the half-orc. Would I have looked more like her if I hadn’t been chosen?“We found this particular problem around six hours from the village. Possibly closer, since half of this time we spent escaping a blizzard.” Velan then points to his wounds, dried blood noticeable into his clothes. “We talked about the battle and our wounds when you were informing Mrs Goodwinn of our arrival and let’s just say that some people reacted. I heard expressions like ‘not again’ and ‘we should have left last winter’ but didn’t really pay attention on who said them since I reckoned the staff here would know more details.”
That was likely to be part of whatever job Barbara wanted done, not to mention the hyena-like creatures were reason enough for any settlement need a crate of healing potions. At least it was unlikely they were dealing directly with Yeenagu. Kleine wouldn’t be standing if that demon had been around at any point.
“And speaking about details, could you tell me something about this former group that died?” It would help to know how they fell, if nothing else to avoid the same mistakes. “I would also appreciate to know to which deity the shrine is dedicated and if there is some hour when I should avoid visiting.”
Magwynn will go to bed when it becomes clear that no one is interested in talking to her directly and she has learned all she can via eavesdropping and conversing with the pack animals outside. Which probably involved some food-related bribery, and earns her additional wide berth from some people.
Zin sidles up to Magwynn, Davis, and Velan toward the end of the night, as they seem to be staying up the latest and he shares what he has learned, speaking in low tones.
"I heard rumors from a few fans of my singing that might interest you. There are rumors of Gnolls in the area have forsaken their ancestral gods and now worship what they call a "Face in the Ice." I have never heard of this God and I didn't know what the hell they were talking about, but supposedly this "God" is due to the deep glaciers which form as part of this continent and as such the Gnolls have offered their belief and prayers to it. So apparently the prayers to the Face in the Ice whispered back to them, which slowly changed them. It made them less savage and but more deadly. They are scarred, but in actual reality what can they do about it? They probably have no idea."
"That has to be what we met on the path here. But who knows, we may need to look further into it based on what we find out tomorrow."

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Melody eyes looks towards the wounds that Velan mentioned before meeting back up with Velan's. A slight quick exhale of her breath through her nose is heard as a very slight smile comes forth as she looks past Velan. "I've been doing this job for awhile now. And the slightest hint of something bad coming this way always get the people here talking. Whether it's of truth or lies they always have something to say about it. So you can only imagine the tales I've heard through the years make you grin slightly as I am doing now." She looks Velan back in the eye's. "So if you truly did run into a problem before you got here then maybe, just maybe for once the people are right." She takes a big breath a before letting it out rather quickly "So Since your new here I'll explain a little something to you. So if there is a particular problem we try to keep it under wraps. It's bad for moral, makes people scarred and the community seizes to do things they normal should do. As the boss would say "It's bad for business." " as she slightly lets out a quarter of a laugh "Secondly this community is not built to deal with these particular problems that rise up in and around here. So this is why you all are here. To help make our town, our community safe." as a look of real emotion and concern comes over her face. "The team before you didn't take that to heart. So they acted recklessly and stupid. Drinking heavily every night and just acting stupid." as she turns her head in disgust "From what I heard they took a job to go clean out some cave. Hunter's and trappers near this cave always came up missing when they were in that area. So they were sent in to clear it up. But since they drank to much the night before half of them were in no way even ready to go out and fight and to was taken, killed or what ever around this cave. Of course everybody was warned not to go any where near there but because of it's location it's where the most abundant of wild life has been caught. Which of course helps us sustain our way of life food wise." "I.." is interrupted by Mrs. Goodwinn "Melody can you come here please?" Melody looks at you for a second "Excuse me work calls."
Magwynn listens to what Zin has to say. "I had assumed it was Chardalyn that had changed the creatures so. I'm not so familiar with the gods worshiped by creatures such as these -- or most folk, to be honest."
He listened attentively to each word Melody had to say. In so many words she had admitted that there was a problem, that it was kept under wraps to avoid panic and that his group was brought to help with the security of the place. She also mentioned the demise of the other group and if what she said was true then it would be easy to avoid the mistake that led them to the grave. She was about to say something more when Barbara Goodwinn called for her.
“Of course, and thank you.” He said with the best of his smiles. Which admittedly was not that good. Getting the room keys he returned to the table, by this time only Magwynn remained. “I got some information. It seems…”
Before he could finish, Zin returns sharing new findings. It seems this particular problem is not that under wraps, Velan thought to himself, more than satisfied to find how good the bard was at gathering information.
“Their original god is no god at all, just smiling daddy.”He said in reference to Yeenagu, the demon lord. “I don’t know if this Face in the Ice is even a deity, it may be just someone, or something, manipulating the gnolls. And we’ll probably have to deal with it, since I just learned from Melody that we are to help improving the safety of the village.” With that, a cavern to be cleaned and a cannibal on the outskirts of Kleine.“Good news is that we are not dealing with lord four-two-two, bad news is that this Face in the Ice is strong enough to overpower his influence. Oh, and I found the end of our prdecessors. Apparently, they were ill mannered guests with a taste for the drinking. Went to battle still drunk or at least hangover.”
"Hopefully a bit more careful this time around." Davis says as he settles down with the others. (He would not go to his room until most of his companions do so.) He glances around the common room, seeing it is mostly empty now. "Let us not jump to following the reckless ones who were here before us." He suggests to those still up of his companions. "Tomorrow we'll see what items are to be our projects to start on, and we can go from there. Being forewarned of the threats in the area is good work, and I believe we are better off for this late-night discussion with the locals." He yawns with an amused look in his gray eyes. "It is getting late though, so, unless we wish to be seen as foolish due to staying up to all hours and being too-tired to do our work, I suggest we call it a night."
“That is a good question, but to be honest, Blackheart didn’t exactly strike as the savviest when it comes to battle.”He said to Magwynn, remembering Everett’s figure and his speech about the personal importance the work in Kleine had for him. “It is just as likely he simply hired whoever was up for the job, without looking at details like the composition of the group or their personality.”Thinking about it, he didn’t check for that this time too. It was but a fortunate coincidence that their party had such a good line up. “After all, if wisdom comes with experience it is logic to assume that inexperience carries foolishness.”
There was also the possibility that the whole story about their predecessors was a cover. That their employers were the ones behind their end. It was strange, after all, that such village resisted so long against gnolls. All the more if the hyena creatures were made smarter. Maybe the foreigners were sacrifices to this ice deity, made to keep the monsters at bay. Or maybe I’m just thinking too much about things that happened too long ago.
“That said, I agree with… I don’t believe you said your name?”The wizard says to the warrior. “Anyhow, we had a long day, it’s unlikely we will find more people to talk to us, Goodwinn is going to offer more work tomorrow and I need to get over some wounds so, good night.”
As he finishes his sentence, Velan leaves his place at table and headed up the stairs. In his room he summons Ninlil and commands the familiar to keep watch during his sleep.
Some of you decided to have a late night cap while others who were more tired decided to turn in early. For the late night crew who decided to stay up heard some interesting rumors from either patrons or town folk mostly under the influence of liquid courage floating around the bar. Now whether or not their true remains to be seen. So after everybody went to bed Ninlil Velan's pet was set up on watch duty. Ninlil perceived nothing out of the ordinary to report the following morning. As you wake up then look through the window of your room you see (what the first person rolled for today's weather). As The smell of fresh bread enters into your nose.
(we shall pick up from here with you deciding how to start your day. Velan is considered to be there participating but in silent mode)
Sohk makes his way down bright and early, lured by the smell of bread. Stretching as he enters the common room he is simultaneously sniffing his nose and looking about with a sleepy smile on his face.
Settling into a nice seat he looks to get some food while he waits for his companions to join him.
