"Don't worry if you don't," Magwynn says. "It take practice, and also some luck -- we can't shoot anything if no creatures happen to be out. It's still early enough for deer, but in the midday we'll probably have better luck looking for hares or similar." She leads the way out of town, aiming for another brush-filled area that she saw this morning, far enough away from their trap that any noise they made wouldn't scare off prey. After about fifteen minutes of travel, she begins scanning for signs of deer -- tracks, droppings, places on shrubs or trees where plant matter had been torn off and eaten. As she moves she begins to chant under her breath, a chant she learned long ago to aid with hunting.
Spix sends her owl high overhead and has it circle the group, looking for anything moving in the snow .“My owl will find something, I bet “ Spix says. She’s been getting faster with her snowshoes.
“The best thing I know how to shoot is a crossbow.” That and a sling. He had learned both as a child, before being chosen. The first he did not have in hands, the second he doubted would be of any help in a hunt. “But I can use a spell that is sure to hit anything up to a hundred and twenty feet from me with darts made of energy. There are three darts for use of the spell and I can cast it three times before needing some respite. Half an hour resting, and I can use this spell one more time.”
From there Velan would need to have a proper sleep, then he would have his full capabilities back. Not that he wished to spend the entirety of his forces using Magic Missile. He would rather have Mage Armor at the ready, in case they were attacked by either the gnolls or the cannibal. Minor Illusion would also come in hand, make it easier to control the fight.
“Guess it’s time to put mine to work too.” He said to Spix while telepathically calling on Nilil. The white fey materialized on his right shoulder, inquiring the wizard if it was time for the hunt. Yes, old friend. He answered with the voice of his mind. Find prey and tell me if something dangerous is approaching.
Velan did nit to ask twice. Ninlil took flight and started to scout the surrounding area. On land the hexblood followed the firbolg, in silence, pondering if he should give more detail about Goodwinn said to him the day before and ask if they shouldn’t check the outspost.
Ninlil's Perception Check to find pray (advantage because of Keen Sight):18
After everything is said and done the party lead by Magwynn even through the heavy snow drifts moves North-West from town into the forested area where Magwynn remembers hunting some suitable game.
Upon reaching the area Magwynn almost immediately starts noticing where Deer Browse starts to be missing as well as scat dropping near the Deer Browse scattered through out the area indicating traces of the prey were here or possibly still in the area. Magwynn picks up a small trail that heads North but the Snow drifts manage to cover the tracks up just enough to have him pause to determine where they lead.
From over head while circling the keen eye's from Owl pick the trampled prints that were left in the snow North-East of your location.
Even further out to the West North-West of your area Ninlil picks up a very, very small trail of 4 lines. The lines are only seen at the top of snow drifts. Their equal in distance apart but running either North-West to South-West or South-west to North-West.
Zin follows behind Magwynn, short bow out and ready to shoot if he sees something. He tries as well to find, track and follow any trails along the way.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
It was only as Ninlil left his shoulder that it occurred to Velan that it would be unwise, at the very least, to keep talking during the hunt, specially considering that for him there was another option. An almost effortless one. He took a small knife from his backpack, the one he used to cut his quill pen, and studied the blade for a moment. Razor edged and hard, it was brittle and could easily be chipped if used for anything beyond its intended purpose. Dagger it is, he decided returning the pen sharpener to its original place and taking up the steel he wielded in battle. With it the hexblood removed a lock of his hair and tied it in a not.
Sheathing his weapon, he moved into Sohk’s direction. Reaching the dwarf’s arm with his right hand the wizard called the monk. He then made a gesture of silence and with his left hand held the eerie token over the stout warrior’s shoulder.
I can send telepathic messages to someone carrying it. Velan said with the voice of his mind, pointing at the flock. I'll commune with Ninlil. I'll need you to guide me. If anything happens, tap my arm.
With his twenty-five words spent the wizard removed the token and slipped into the skin of the owl. It didn’t take long for the raptor’s eyes to pick a small trail. With it in mind he returned to his body and moved closer to Maegwynn. By her side he reached to the firbolg in the same manner he reached to Sohk earlier. I can send telepathic messages to someone carrying it. He said with the token at her shoulder. Trail, northwest. Four equidistant lines, northwest to southwest or the contrary. Visible only atop of snowdrifts.
Magwynn nods, and motions for the others to wait. She moves ahead, quietly. Locating the tracks with the owl's help, she inspects the tracks closely, looking for signs of dew claws in the prints or which end of a track was tapered to indicate which direction the tracks were going.
Davis follows the group, trying to keep a bit behind them, so his less-than-stealthy movement doesn't startle the game away. He waits while his companions look for signs and decide on what the next step is to be.
Magwynn leads the group further ahead following the signs SHE was either taught or learned like the back of her hand when hunting, scouting or training new hunters. She manages to find a decent size group prey. Relying on her techniques she leads the group as close as she can to the nearest Medium deer that seems to be isolated and away from main herd. Knowing that this is the best chance to make a kill she judges the distance and determines 50 ft is as close as she can get with out making it startle or run.
OOC: We will start with Magwnn then move down the order to see what each individual wants to do. Using the hunting rules (Wis) Survival check (missile) or (Dex) Stealth check (melee) vs the size of the targets Med: DC 17, 3 hits. Remember if the one before you manages to miss causing the prey to flee (by missing 5 or more on their check) then any attack after that individual will auto miss due to the fact it ran away.
After relaying the information to Maegwyn, Velan returns to his position behind Sohk, trusting the dwarf to guide him during the rest of the journey. His mind slipped back into Ninlil, her emerald eyes searching the ground from the skies. If some gnoll or the cannibal were to appear they should be able to notice. At least the wizard hoped so.
He still remembered well the fangs of the creatures and hoped with all sincerity to avoid them in the future. It should be possible. He was stronger now, had more spells, more perception of the very fabric of time. But what if it is not enough? He pondered, the question spreading through his mind like poison. It was the same when he tried to take the Crone. That time things had worked well, but who or what could ever guarantee this time would be the same? No choice but to take the chance, he said to himself just like he had that time.
This time he was not alone. Not that Velan felt he could trust a group of people he had met just two days before. What he trusted was the fact that in battle he was of better use to them standing than bleeding out. That and their skill. But what if it is not enough? The question persisted. He could only hope it was.
From the familiar’s flight the wizard saw as the group found their prey. A deer. The hexblood returned to his senses and considered trying a spell, but he was not sure it would be a good idea. Firebolt? Part of the meat would burn. Mind Sliver? Too much distance for that. Magic Missile was supposed to never miss but carried the strength of three strikes. Not sure of how it could affect the quality of the meat he decided to simply observe.
After moving as close as one could Magwynn eager to show why he is a great Hunter let's his arrow fly and manages a strike a hit into the deer. The other members of the group not as experienced as the hunter decide to move a little closer to get a better shot or play follow up keeping the group together.
The now wounded deer calls out a warning noise for the rest of the other deer in the area as a stampede of Deer moves North -East away from you. The wounded deer however moves North-West fleeing in terror. The deer does leave a blood trail in the wake as it moves away making it easier to track.
OOC: It now up to the group to decide as a group
1. if they want to track the wounded deer. The tracker will get advantage on the roll to track
OR
2. track the stampeding herd. And try your luck to follow the stampeding tracks then wait for a opportunity for the herd to settle down completely from being completely scared of any little shadow or any breath of danger. At which point the DC will get tougher then listed above.
3. Of course if the group decides to do anything else completely I'm all ears to hear it.
Zin nods when Spix says this, turns to Magwynn and says quietly "Can you track it? Maybe I can get a bow shot at it if we can find its trail again. Let me help."

Magwynn nods. "We will track the injured deer, which should give the rest of the herd time to calm down." SHE looks at the group. "Does someone else want to try tracking, with the help of the blood trail?"
