Kulogall says “No, I didn’t open it. That’s right! Cal! Lost track of that. We must keep looking. That sound … scared me.” He stiffens up and hates to admit it, the proud Triton struggles with how scared it made him feel. “Maybe we should have a look Daveth.”

"Look, these footprints lead into the kitchen. Someone snuck in recently, maybe someone with knowledge of Cal's whereabouts." Elwyn says and tries to get the group to investigate the kitchen together this time. Perception: 24 Investigation: 13
All - This kitchen is dirty and damp, with patches of gray mold and cobwebs on the floor, walls, and ceiling. In the southwest corner is some iron cooking equipment with a chimney above. Next to it, under the window, is a cracked and discolored stone sink. To the right of the sink, a small, closed wooden cupboard is fixed to the wall about five feet above floor level. Against the far wall, a flight of wooden stairs leads upward from west to east; the woodwork of the staircase is decayed, and a few of the treads are missing. The foot prints lead to a closed door in the east wall of the kitchen.
Elwyn -
What specifically would you like to investigate in the kitchen? Your roll of 13 was sufficient, I just need to know what you're investigating.
”Be on your toes, everyone. I don’t believe we have the element of surprise any longer.”
Wake wants to glance outside of the side door. Is the ground wet enough to cause the footprints? Or is it possible that the footprints came from the bottom of the well? Perhaps a “secret” entrance that the residence here would not expect us to know about.
Wake - The storm is still raging outside and there are large pools of water filling the low spots in the side garden. The ground is certainly wet enough to cause the footprints but if you'd like to investigate the well, please make an Investigation check.
Wake will not want to get that far from the group. But he will still air his suspicion.
”Do you all think there could be a secret passageway at the bottom of the well? I’m still trying to figure out why someone would have been coming in from outside. Especially if they’re trying to scare us off.”
"I think it's possible." Says Ruby to answear Wake. "Whoever this is they managed to scare a lot of people out of here. They might be trying to scare us away too."
"The footprints lead in here." Elwyn whispers to the others. "Be ready." He adds and kicks the door in, ready with his tentacle-shaped wand. Perception if needed: 10
When Wake suggests an secret entrance, Ariana shares her thoughts. "When I looked into the well, it was quite short: only about 20 feet deep with shallow water. That surely seems short for a house on a hill."
She actually blushes at the thought of her believing such a fanciful idea--secret entrances in haunted houses.
As Elwyn kicks in the door, Ariana readies her quarterstaff for battle.
All - This room displays the effects of damp and decay more than most. Mold grows in patches on the floor, walls, and ceiling. A large copper cask, split, discolored and empty, stands under the window, with a small heap of crockery shards on the floor beside it. Stairs lead down into what is presumably a cellar. The wet foot prints lead to the stairs.
Ariana looks worried. "I'd hate to give the miscreants a chance to escape because we hurry down. Let's post watch at these stairs and the trapdoor, and clear the other rooms. Daveth could stand in the hall there." She points to about where Wake stands."There he could watch the back door and this room while I watch the trapdoor that gave you all the shivers. The rest of you can clear this floor."
She starts towards the hallway, but hesitantly, waiting for confirmation.
"Ok, good thinking Ariana." Elwyn says and smiles to the half-elf before moving to the western door down the corridor motioning for the others to follow, listening at it and the entering, unless he heard something. Perception: 19

Ruby will go to the other door in the corridor. She will also check it for any sounds, but will wait for Elwyn to open his first just in case there´s aything dangerous.
Elwyn - At one time a long table stood in the center of this room; now it lies broken on the floor. A broken chair sits against the wall between the windows, and there is a heap of broken dishes in the northwest corner.
Ruby - Two stuffed armchairs stand near the fireplace of this room. The covers of both have been torn and the stuffing has been pulled out, but the wooden frames are intact. A broken table lies on the floor near the north wall.
Ariana - The trapdoor sits flush with the rest of the floor around it. If not for the foot prints leading directly to it, it would be difficult to find. There is no obvious handle or latch, but gently placing your hand on the western edge causes the eastern edge to rise ever so slightly. You believe it can be opened by pressing down firmly on the western edge.

Ariana -
You're getting the feeling that someone or something is trying to scare you all away from this place.
All - Any who investigate the north hallway will find the following:
You see still wet foot prints leading to the kitchen area from the open side door.
"Look, these footprints lead into the kitchen. Someone snuck in recently, maybe someone with knowledge of Cal's whereabouts." Elwyn says and tries to get the group to investigate the kitchen together this time.

Elwyn is checking where the footprints lead. Up I suppose.
Wake will not want to get that far from the group. But he will still air his suspicion.

Ariana posts at the trapdoor, and takes the opportunity to investigate it further.

She then steps back to the hallway to keep an eye on the trapdoor but remain closer to her friends.
All - Here is the first floor as it stands now.
