Elwyn, who himself knows a bit or two about exaggarating and not completely sticking to the truth, is very skeptical to the genuinity of these very low priced magical items. Insight: 21 to determine if he is truthful about what he peddles.

At the mention of her name, Ariana looks up and puts Wesley back in her pocket. She looks to be calculating in her head.
"Having a magic item like that would be quite useful, Kulogall. But I don't think I have any money to spare at the moment." She looks genuinely disappointed.
She has doubts about the quality and safety of the magic mushrooms, so does she believe that the peddler has good intentions or is he lying about them?
Ruby - The elven man smiles to you and says, "It varies from person to person, but most of the effects I've seen last about an hour or so. I've not seen nor heard any tales of people experiencing side-effects, no." Sensing the group's apprehension, the elven man will reach into the mushroom sack and offer one to Ruby, "Would you like to try one? I'd gladly part with one for free if it'd instill confidence in my wares."
The man seems overly eager to sell his wares and you get the feeling that he's not being entirely truthful about most of everything he's said thus far.
Kulogall - The man crosses his arms and taps his chin with one finger, considering your request. "Hmm... I certainly appreciate the offer of food and a spot near the fire. Unfortunately I must continue on my way once our business is concluded. I'd be willing to let one of you sample a magic mushroom if you'd like." At this point Daveth has limped over and is staring at the items the man has for sale. "I'll try one!" He says enthusiastically, "Maybe I'll be able to shoot fireballs like you!" The man offers Daveth the mushroom and he sniffs it before placing it carefully in his mouth and chewing. He raises an eyebrow as he chews, "Not too bad. A little chewy. How long is it supposed to take?" He says as he looks at his hand, now stained purple and wipes it on his borrowed shirt.
Elwyn -
In all your life, you've never encountered a greater charlatan than the man handing Daveth a purple mushroom. You're confident he's been mostly lying about almost everything he's said thus far. Also, courtesy of your Perception check earlier, you hear something in the undergrowth nearby. A sort of chittering and growling sound, not dissimilar to that of some rabid dog. The bushes begin quaking with ferocity and the sounds grow louder.

Seeing the man so eager to sell her the mushrooms makes Ruby take a step back, declining his offer.
"Daveth, wait don- "She didn't even managed to finish her sentence before seeing Daveth already chewing on the mushrooms. "Oh no.." She whispers as she sees the purple stain on his hand.

"If anything, those fireballs will come out your other end Daveth. This man is a charlatan, and he has his pet hiding in the bushes over there right now." Elwyn says in a stern voice, tilting his head in the direction of the growling. Elwyn raises his loaded crossbow, aiming it at the charlatan. "Call off your dog and you may yet live." Elwyn says threateningly, while keeping a good lookout for the dog in the bushes and positioning himself on the other side of the charlatan. Intimidation to avoid fight: 21
Ruby - Daveth looks at you and says, "Wha-" but before he can finish his sentence, he is suddenly outline in coruscating purple light. It intensifies until... With a CRACK the light flares blindingly, then fades. Deep purple smoke fills the spot where Daveth stood only moments before. The smoke begins to dissipate and you see a shape within. You hear a "Baaaaaaahhhh" and the head of a sheep lifts through the fading smoke. The man smiles and claps, "Oh, how fun! I haven't seen-" He then sees the crossbow and hears Elwyn's threat, "Now, now, I know the effects of magic might seem infernal to good-natured rural folk such as yourselves, but I assure you... Eh?" The man now also hears the sound coming from the bushes, "Dog? I have no dog..."
All - You all hear a growling and chittering sound coming from a violently shaking group of bushes nearby. The elven man takes a step back, "I realize my wares are not for everyone, I will be going n- Aaaaarrrggghhhh!" Something bursts from the bushes and charges at the elven man. It appears to be a very dirty halfling man. His clothes are muddy and ripped and his hair sticks out wildly in all directions. Purple foam flies from his mouth as he howls and you see what appears to be purple vomit covering the front of his shirt. The crazed halfling tackles the elven man and begins clawing and biting him with all the ferocity of a starved owlbear. The elven charlatan screams and thrashes beneath the halfling, "Help! HELP! Oh gods, somebody HELP!" The sheep sees the halfling and immediately bolts away from it, scrabbling through the woods in terror.
Ruby looks at the chaos before them and for a second is not sure what to do, but decides to run after Daveth and Ariana. "Daveth wait! Stop!"She shouts, hoping that maybe he can still understand them.
Ariana - Baaaah-veth scrambles away from you, under half-fallen trees and over rocks. You hear Ruby calling out and running close behind you. Make a DC 12 Athletics check with Advantage (Since Ruby is helping give chase) to see if you can wrangle the spooked sheep.
Wake hurriedly shouts to the group, “Do you want me to castSleepon those two … ?” referring to the filthy halfling and the charlatan, “If so, back up so you’re not in the radius of the spell.”
Wake - The elven man's voice and movements become sluggish and the halfling man appears to also have lost much of his fight. The elven man plops backward onto the ground, one arm falling over a snoring and very dirty halfling on his chest. The two are now soundly asleep.
"Good job, perhaps we should tie them up before we Wake them up?" Elwyn asks the genasi, while glancing to the woods to see if Baaah-veth has been captured yet.
“Yes, we should tie them up separately to different trees and interrogate them to see if their stories match up. This spell only lasts a minute so hurry to secure them before they wake.”
Wake will gingerly lift the halfling and head off in one direction. He will gently place him at the base of a tree and uncoil his hempen rope and immobilize him.
Just as you finish securing the Halfling to the tree, his eyelids begin to flutter. He opens his eyes with a groan and looks sleepily around for a second, then looks down at the rope binding him to the tree. He startles and begins straining against the bonds, "Wha...What's going on? Who are you? Where am I? Why am I tied up!?"
You quickly bind the man to the tree, perhaps a bit too tight in your haste. He awakens with a gasp and looks around quickly, "What's going on? Why have you done this? Just take what you want and let me go, please, I don't want any trouble with you nor the authorities..."
“I do apologize for the inconvenience.”Wake will say with his best ‘bed-side’ manner. “But, we couldn’t just let you attack that peddler over there without some explanation. Were you of a sound mind when you jumped out of the bushes or do you even recall any of your actions? I will be honest, any outburst right now from you will taint your testimony and affect our decision to let you go. So please gather yourself before answering.”

In unison with Ruby, Ariana says "Daveth, wait, don--" But instead of an "Oh no," she just scowls and shakes her head at the novice.
She mumbles to Ruby, "I was going to suggest the peddler test them for us..."
When the halfling enters the fray, Ariana can't stifle her laugh. "Perhaps a former mushroom client has returned to provide feedback."
When Daveth runs off to the woods, Ariana gives chase and tries to tackle him.
Ruby looks at the chaos before them and for a second is not sure what to do, but decides to run after Daveth and Ariana. "Daveth wait! Stop!" She shouts, hoping that maybe he can still understand them.

You quickly bind the man to the tree, perhaps a bit too tight in your haste. He awakens with a gasp and looks around quickly, "What's going on? Why have you done this? Just take what you want and let me go, please, I don't want any trouble with you nor the authorities..."
