For those who went on to the dragonfly area, or will soon catch up to it:
Huge lily pads rest on the surface of a pool glistening with phosphorescent algae. Giant dragonflies use the lily pads as landing platforms, buzzing loudly overhead with wings as brilliant as stain-glass windows, and alighting briefly to drop off and pick up excited passengers.
Near the entrance, a small, smiling tree turns your way and beckons you over. A red squirrel clings to its leaf canopy, peering at you suspiciously.
Davis sighs as the figure does not respond. He glances around the room, moving to the chest and glancing to what is inside. As he is not likely to see anything that relates to what he himself has lost, he would take the small ball outside of the tent and hold it up to the tentacled cat outside. "Someone was inside the tent when I entered, they fled, dropping this." He holds the ball out to the displacer beast.
Pal will approach the tree while watching the dragonflies buzz by overhead, "Interesting! Are they magically enlarged or is this their natural size? Why are they called dragonflies for that matter? Have they draconic ancestors? Are there metallic dragonflies? How very interesting!"

Bramble silently watched as the big warrior in chainmail picked up the silvery-looking ball with the depiction of a 6-legged tentacled cat just like Dirla which made the wee fairy wonder if the item belonged to the great kitty outside the tent. But as chainmail clad warrior now had the ball in his possession Bramble shrugged and figured that surely he would do the right thing. Thus she was of the mind to leave well enough alone remain silent on the matter.
In any event, as the big warrior exited the ever-curious Bramble remained behind inside the tent and then cautiously made her way over to the wooden chest to take a look inside for herself, examining the chest inside, outside, and even under very closely Investigation18 curious to see what sort of thing(s), if any she might find inside...
"As we have our flies, thus says the wise, so does the dragons have their dragonflies." Viola seriously explains to Pal, in the voice of a teacher. She then skips forward to the smiling tree. "Good evening to you Mr. Tree, smiling wide we'd like a dragonfly take for a ride." She says finishing with a few joyful notes before showing her ticket.
[You noticed at a glance that the open chest contained mere junk, the sort of near-worthless objects that tend to get left behind in a place like this and forgotten]
Dirlagraun carefully extends a tentacle, which you notice is tipped with barbed spines, but it gently takes the ball from you. The great cat’s eyes become misty in an unmistakable display of emotion, but it quickly regains control of itself.
“This ball belonged to my kit, Star. He disappeared from the carnival many years ago. I often wonder what became of him… I keep the ball around, in that chest, as a little reminder. Thank you for retrieving it. As for the thief, I’m not surprised to hear about it. You notice them from time to time around here, a flitting in the corner of your eye, that sort of thing.”
The tent is dark. You find no signs of egress from the shadow-figure, no footprints. The chest appears unremarkable. It contains mostly junk but a trinket catches your eye

A bar of soap that smells like something memorable from your childhood
Northwind grins at your enthusiasm, and he throws back his head and laughs. Several leaves flutter down from his canopy as his frame shakes with laughter.
“Inquisitive chap, what a delight! Your mind seems to be racing quickly, you harengons are always in such a rush. I love it! I have no idea why they’re called dragonflies, I just work with ‘em. It’ll cost you 1 ticket punch to ride one, then maybe you’ll gain some new insight!”
“And you,” turning his attention to Viola. “My sing-songy lady, do you always speak like that? How marvelous! I could never be so clever. As I’ve told your friend here, a dragonfly ride costs 1 ticket punch. And, um…” here he pauses, searching for words. “It should have you back in time for lunch!”
At Calanon (he notices you observing the crowd) “You’ll be taking a ride as well, sir? You’ll be able to get a different perspective from up high!”

"Oh thank you, most kind, Sir Wind of the North, we'll wait for our friends before going forth." Viola rhymes, looking for Bramble, Calanon and Davis to catch up. While waiting she too glances over the crowd, particularly looking for any familiar faces from her last visit. Perception: 10
Calanom offers a small nod as he reaches into his pocket and produces the ticket, holding it out as he only looks at the one who spoke from the corner of his eye.
Bramble, you scan the crowd before getting on your ride and something unusual catches your eye. Everyone is bustling about except for someone, you notice: a small figure with dark gray skin and face covered by a pig’s mask, standing still in the shadows between two tents. When you glance back at that spot, the person is gone. Had you really seen it?

Bramble peered rather closely at the bar of soap as she picked it up! The wee fairy's large expressive eyes then darted back and forth in search of the mysterious shadowy figure as she called out, "Hey you! Yeah, you... I'm talking to you... tall dark and shadowy!" Bramble called out with a challenging childish giggle, "you dropped your soap and you don't have to worry bending over. Not with me anyway... I'm a good girl, just ask anyone! They'll tell you. But I got it right here for you. You know if you want it! I do have to tell you that it kinda smells just like when me and my twin sister Briar used to play Duelin' Panflutes... you wanna hear? Sure you do, who doesn't, am I right?"The fairy giggled again and reached into her pouch and pulled out her Pan Flute and began to play Performance18 both her and her sister Briar's musical parts as she danced and pranced about the chest serenading the mysterious unseen shadowy figure.
Once she finished Bramble gingerly returned the bar of soap to the wooden chest where she had found it, "well it's right here in the box if you need it just like I promised. I myself prefer late-night moonbeam showers and for those you don't much need any soap, do you? Am I right or am I right?" She giggled again carrying on a conversation chattering like a chipmunk with no one else about. "Well it's been fun but I need to catch up with the others... so I'll catch you later... and you and I can talk again!"
Bramble gracefully curtsied and then quickly exited the tent, being polite by closing the flap behind her! The wee fairy lass took the air again and made a bee-line straight for the dragonfly ride to catch up with the others! With a coy-winning-smirk as she presented her ticket to be punched...
Along the way Bramble spotted a small figure with dark gray skin and face covered by a pig’s mask, standing still in the shadows between two tents but was sad when she looked again and glanced back only to find the person gone. 'Had I really seen it?' She thought to herself, "Nah,"she replied aloud... talking to herself, "but I sure did see that big ol' yummy lollipop. I wonder where I can get me one of those?"
Calanon, you scan the crowds of fair goers and the workers, and see that everyone is in good spirits and having a good time. The workers go about their tasks with a smile.
Northwind punches a hole in your ticket and directs you (and others getting on the ride) to a dragonfly that has just landed on a lily pad at the water’s edge. The emerald-colored insect is as large as a horse and its carapace glitters naturally. Sparkling rainbows flash through its iridescent wings as they flutter gently. Its huge alien eyes don’t move, yet you feel that they are somehow observing you all the same.
Northwind helps settle you into a simple harness on the dragonfly’s back. He informs you that the dragonfly follows a preset path over the carnival. He also advises you all to look for him after the ride, as he will be giving out gifts to all carnival-goers soon.
In a flash, the dragonfly’s wings suddenly make a buzzing sound as they begin to flutter more rapidly than can be seen, and suddenly you lift up into the air.
It’s a pleasant ride, full of sudden but extremely brief jerky course corrections followed by long stretches of very smooth hovering. Calanon (and others on the ride), you do, indeed, have a great view of all that goes on in the carnival.
[At this point I’m assuming most or all of the party have gotten on the dragonfly ride and are currently up in the air on a dragonfly. Please let me know otherwise]
About halfway through the ride, Calanon (and only Calanon) notices something. At the dragonfly ride, a patron has just clambered on to a dragon. He’s a dwarf with a bright blue beard. But before Northwind can strap him in to the harness, the dragonfly suddenly lurches into the air and jerks around erratically. The dwarf clings to the giant insect but appears to be in danger of falling. Calanon (by virtue of your high roll) you noticed a suspicious figure that had crouched near the dragonfly and appeared to be whispering to it right before it took off. The figure appeared to be a tall skinny human girl with red freckles and red hair braided into pigtails, dressed in blue overalls. Once the dragonfly takes off, the suspicious figure slinks away, trying to blend in with the crowd.
Viola holds on tightly to her violin as they soar through the carnival area, laughing warmly as they suddenly change course. "Oh, this enchanting glamorous sight please never end this fairy-tale flight." She shouts to the others smiling widely.
"Sorry to hear that." Davis informed the displacer beast with a sad look at the ball. "If there is anything I can do to aid with your missing kit, then let me know." He would make his goodbyes then and head off to catch up with the others just in time to catch a ride on a dragonfly.
