The clown, presumably Candlefoot, looks surprised at Davis’ words and glances around nervously. Then he makes a show of putting a fist to his chin while tapping his forehead with the finger of his other hand, indicating thinking?
During this display, your attention is drawn to a nearby unfolding drama. Not far away on the lawn, a wooden mannequin of a grinning, raven-haired young woman in witch’s attire and a green flowing cape hovers inside a glass cabinet. At the top of the cabinet, a sign reads “Tasha the Wizard—Known for Her Hideous Laughter.”
A halfling couple holds hands as they approach the glass cabinet. One of the halflings is wearing butterfly face paint. As he drops to one knee and pulls a small box from his pocket, his sweetheart bursts into laughter and begins rolling around on the ground. The halfling in face paint looks stricken, begins sobbing and darts past you into the Hall of Illusions tent without getting his ticket punched.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Viola looks with compassion on the butterfly face painted halflings failed proposal and dashes after him when he leaves. "Wait good Sir, let me play my part, and advice you on matters of the heart" She rhymes, trying to make him stop and tell his tale. Persuasion if needed: 17
Pal, your spell reveals to you an aura of enchantment magic that tightly surrounds the glass cabinet. It appears that the halfling that is laughing on the ground was close enough to enter that aura.
As a wizard, certainly you have heard of Tasha and her hideous laughter but you’re wracking your mind trying to remember more specific details. Try a history check!
Viola, the other halfling dashed into the Hall of Illusions tent. You rush after him with your plea but it looks like he went deeper into the Hall of Illusions and you can’t spot him presently. Standing at the entrance you can tell that the interior appears to be full of mirrors.
Davis tries to recall anything about this Tasha person, and glances after the halfling that ran into the illusion hall. He frowns as he looks back to the clown. "You think on it, while I see if I can help that fellow out..." He moves into the hall after his companions, seeking the halfling.
Calanon watches all oc this with an impassive glance, giving a shrug and moving to follow after the others as they start to head into the Hall of Illusions.
Viola rushes into the Hall of Illusions tent but as she sees all the mirrors she realizes finding the halfling could be difficult. "Mirror mirror on the wall, help us in illusion hall find a suitor, not so tall." She rhymes while looking around for the butterfly face painted halfling.
Davis is able to recall reading somewhere about Tasha, that she was a great archmage and had multiple other names and aliases at various stages of her numerous adventures, one of which was Iggwilv the Witch Queen.
You all plunge into the tent and are confronted with several halls lined with full-length mirrors. The tent is dimly lit with torches in sconces, though each torch is emitting a different color of light. You hear echoing footsteps from…somewhere, hard to tell. Viola, you’ve noticed that everyone’s reflected features in the mirrors are that of their youth, when you all were much younger. But as you progress further into the tent, everyone’s reflected features seem to age gradually towards the present day.
Pal, rushing a bit, is able to spot the halfling ahead in the distance, just as he turns a corner. Pal, as you reach that corner and look down the new hall, you spot the halfling, about halfway down, looking into a mirror intently. He also seems to be having a softly murmured conversation with the reflection, which at this angle is not visible to you yet.
Even as you approach, the halfling is reaching out his hand to the mirror and it appears that his hand is passing into the mirror as though it were not there!
Pal will cast Mage Hand and attempt to hold onto the Halfling. He isn't sure what's going on with the mirror, but judging from most everything else in this carnival it could very well be dangerous, "Wait friend Halfling, don't touch that! Your lady friend was under a spell, she didn't mean to laugh at you!"
If she catches up with Pal Viola will try to get the attention of the butterfly face painted halfling. "No, wait, we want you to aid, to win the sweet heart of your lovely maid." Viola rhymes from behind Pal.
The mage hand is not strong enough to hold back the small fellow, but it does serve to break his concentration with the mirror. He hears your pleas and turns towards you, eyes sparkling with tears. His hand is still grasping something inside the mirror. If you get any closer you can see that the gray-skinned girl with pig mask (refer to post #54) is in the mirror, holding out her hand to the halfling, and he’s reaching for her hand.
Pal will get as close as he needs to to cast Fire Bolt at the mirror, hoping to shatter it. If that is not possible due to the portal then Pal will target the pig-girl.
Attack: 23, Damage: 7
"Don't go with her! Your lady friend is waiting for you outside!"
"Yes, please, come with us my short friend and we'll to your hearts troubles tend." Viola rhymes to make butterfly face painted halfling come with them.
Pal’s fire bolt slams into the mirror, splashing magical flame in all directions. The halfling jumps back with a yelp, and his arm is no longer reaching into the mirror. Cracks spread along the mirror’s surface, fragmenting and displacing the image of the pig-mask girl in an unsettling way. She turns her gaze to you, Pal, briefly and gives you a scowl before turning and receding further into the mirror-environment, out of view. The halfling turns towards Viola with a look on his face like he was coming out of a trance, and suddenly he rushes towards the rhyming half-elf and clings to her while bawling his eyes out.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Seeing that Viola has the halfling taken care of, Pal will first blow the smoke from his fingertips then go inspect the mirror from a safe distance, no closer than 5ft away.
"Let's get you back to your girl." Davis says, patting the halfling on the back. "From what I understand she was under a spell, and was not actually laughing at you. I bet she is pretty worried by this point." He will carry the halfling out, if allowed to do so, patting his back as he does so. He had not been in time to see what was in the mirror, so he glances to the others as he makes his way out. "What was the deal with the mirror?"
Pal will reply to Davis, "He was reaching out and his hand was inside the mirror when I found him. There was a grey-skinned girl wearing a pig mask inside it talking to him... I think she was trying to get him to join her... See what I mean? There's something internal about this place!" Pal will look back at the mirror, then back to Davis, "Would you mind waiting with me here? I want to inspect this mirror and I don't think I'd be able to find my way back out by myself."
