"We have not been here long and with the goblins in the way, we haven't ventured much further into this castle. Her throne room is just around the corner, if you are with me, you will be safe. You can keep your weapons but don't reach for them or cast a spell.. But if any goblins show up, let 'em have it! (he pumps his fist)."
he pauses..
"You are here about the goblins right? Maybe even get my dragon back?"
"We were looking for a couple of human lads" replies Durthon "but I have no love for goblins. Take us to your chief then, we may be able to help each other."
Meepo leads down the hall to West and then North to a large hall with numerous pillars. He says somethings that sounds like "tickle corn" in common when challenged by another kobold who looks everyone over and then lets him pass.
On a large chair at the end of the hall flanked by 2 guards sits who must be the kobold queen Yusdrayl
In heavily accented common she speaks "Well well well, it appears Meepo has recruited dwarves, a human, and an elf no less to find his stolen dragon."
"But my guess is you are looking for the humans and elf that came through here looking for goblins. Sadly I think they found them and more as I have not seen them since."
"We have no quarrel with the surface dwellers and don't expect any but the goblins have been another story."
Looking around, you get the feeling there are kobolds behind each pillar. If combat breaks out, you could find yourself outnumbered quick. Also, these kobolds appear to be quite disciplined and spread out when they saw you walk in. Something seems different about them.
If you pass a History DC15 check
Hah! You remember. Many years ago, a sage named Tucker spent time with a tribe of Kobolds that were able to survive in a very hostile area. They used every trick in the book both in combat and making allies to stay alive and thrive where lesser kobolds would have quickly perished. If they are from that tribe, they will be quite formidable but reliable.

Wise Yusdrayl, you've obviously got a problem with these goblins. Aside form letting us pass is there anything you could reward us with if we take care of your goblin issues?
"Hmm, the gratitude of the descendants of dragons should be enough but the greed of dwarves is well known (she then goes into a long speech about how great kobolds are, how devious gnomes are, and how dumb goblins are), so this key above my head might prove to be of some value, no idea yet of where it goes, I would like the opportunity to buy it back from you when you are done with it however. Also, the altar behind me has some items we accumulated recently. You could pick any 2 of them instead. We have some mundane items we could sell you also."
Atallia gestures to her compatriots to whisper to them. "I have 10 gold, if we can get enough gold together, a sneaky bunch like this might have a set of thieves' tools. I'd pay you all back out of my share of the treasure."
To Yusdrayl: "A crafty group like you wouldn't happen to have a toolset for working with small mechanical bits, it could help us disarm any traps those nasty goblins might have set?"

Durthon lets his warhammer hanging from his belt, but rests a hand on its head. He addresses the kobold queen "greetings, Yusdrayl. From what Meepo here told us, some goblins kidnapped your dragon. Would you know what motivates them to do something like this and where could they be located?"
After waiting for an answer, he quietly whispers to Atallia "I have another 10 gold pieces I could lend you, specially if that means opening more doors around here."

“We’ve found a bit of gold in this place already, if you think it will help it’s yours.” Weber hands over the 15 gold pieces that were found on the various skeletons. “There were a couple of trinkets and other weapons too that could be bartered with.”
"Thieves' Tools? Thieves' Tools??! Do you take us for thieves? (laughs in mock offense) We call them exploration tools, these will do nicely. (a guard takes the 25gp offered from you). The outcast Druid below drives these goblins to spread those apples for some reason I am not aware of. He must have been how the goblins defeated the 4 people that came to investigate, you will need to be careful. I believe they were ambushed in the tower. I will instruct Meepo to take you to what we believe to be a back way into the Goblin Lair, Meepo can go with you if you wish." (Meepo seems surprised by this but appears resigned to his fate)
The tools given are high quality and of gnomish manufacture. They are functional but also attractive in their own right and show little wear. Considering the dried blood that stains the leather case, you can probably guess how they came across them.
Atallia sighs slightly when she sees the clear marks of gnomish manufacture, reminding her of Nelwyn, her old mentor who got her out of the thief's life.

“What of this dragon, Calcryx, I believe the little keeper called it. Why would you be keeping such a creature down in these depths? And why would the goblins risk their lives to steal it from you? Surely it’s as much a danger to them as anyone else?” Weber asks the kobold, admiring the workmanship of the tools handed over.
"We being the only true descendants of dragons, came to this shattered dragon temple to remind people of the glory of dragons and how they created the world we live in. Goblins stole him simply because that's what they do. Nothing but raiders and thieves, all elves and dwarves know this, humans always seem to forget and have to learn it again the hard way. The dragon is our living and breathing holy icon we were blessed with, we fought hard to get here and simple don't have the strength yet to challenge them much to our shame. We remain faithful though and the fact that you are here and serve common purpose, tells me we are not completely forsaken so that gives me great hope. Calcryx is very small yet and must be protected, he will remain with us until he is ready to leave, that will not be for many years however."
"Ah yes, you noticed the quality of the tools. We found them scattered among the bodies of many gnomes. We of course did not shed any tears for them but we played no part in their deaths and thankfully did not come across those who did as I fear we would have suffered the same fate."

"Thank you for your knowledge and generosity, we just hope to find those we're searching for and get out of here safely. This is your home and anything we ask of you is to help make this place safer for you an' yours" Gus smiles at Yusdrayl and bows his head.
"The key, you mentioned it could be of use, do you know what it unlocks? If y'were kind enough to lend it, there'd be no need to buy it back, we'll freely return it to you." He continues.
"We have not found the door that goes with this key yet. I imagine it is quite a door to have a key this size, when you see it, you will know. I understand what you are asking but the goblin problem is pressing, I am afraid if I give it to you now, you may lose focus and go treasure hunting instead."
"You really think us dwarves're all greedy, don'cha?" Gus chuckles. "We're here to find others that came here before us, not to plunder. That key could help us through the deeper parts of this labyrinth, along with the tools you sold us." His expression hardens slightly as he speaks.
"It also means you've a chance of finding where that key leads without riskin' any of your kin. And my friends and I aren't too keen on the gob's either, so we'll clear out any that get in the way of our job. That's another benefit to you."
Gus smiles again, "The more help you can lend us, the easier we can help make this place safer, find the other surface-dwellers and get your dragon back for ya."
"It's not just me that thinks Dwarves are greedy, (looks at Atallia) however your stubbornness is legendary also. Fine take the stupid key and get going, I bind you on your honor NOT to go treasure hunting. Put a stop to these goblins and get our dragon back!" (she grabs the key and throws it at you).
Durthon nods at Yusdrayl "worry not, we know what the priorities are here." Turning to Meepo he adds "let's go find your dragon."
As they walk away from the throne he falls in line with Gus and whispers in Dwarvish "whatever door that key opens, if we find the missing humans behind it we will know that the kobols were involved."
"Thank you, we'll hopefully find a use for this, either way you'll get it back 'fore we leave," Gus nods at Yusdrayl.
He turns to follow Meepo, struggling briefly to reach behind him to stow the key in his pack.
When Durthon whispers to him in dwarvish, he replies in the same tongue, "I.. I hadn't thought of that, t'be honest." Gus frowns slightly, "now we gotta look out for goblins and make sure the kobolds aren't gonna double cross us."
