As the others begin to move about the house Hofaen first looks closely and intently at the portraits hanging either side of the coat of arms in the foyer (Investigation check: 9) before moving to the foot of the staircase to stand silently listening for any other noises from the house or calls of support from his comrades.
Ankita - To the left of the stairs is a short hallway with two doors. You hear no further howls for the moment.
Zindarik - The longsword has a Windmill embossed on the hilt, similar to the one in the coat of arms you saw in the foyer. Opening the door, you see that this oak-paneled room looks like a hunter’s den. Mounted above the fireplace is a stag’s head, and positioned around the outskirts of the room are three stuffed wolves. Two padded chairs draped in animal furs face the hearth, with an oak table between them supporting a cask of wine, two carved wooden goblets, a pipe rack, and a candelabrum. A chandelier hangs above a cloth-covered table surrounded by four chairs. Two cabinets stand against the walls.
Hofaen - The paintings offer little more than a look at unsmiling folk garbed in fancy but very outdated clothing.
Summer - Unlit oil lamps are mounted on the walls of this elegant hall. Hanging above the mantelpiece is a wood-framed portrait of a family: A father and mother with their two smiling children, Rose and Thorn. Cradled in the father’s arms is a swaddled baby, which the mother regards with a hint of scorn. Standing suits of armor flank wooden doors in the east and west walls. The doors appear to have imagery carved into them. Each suit of armor clutches a spear and has a visored helm shaped like a wolf’s head. The red marble staircase that started on the first floor continues its upward. A cold draft can be felt coming down the steps.
As Ankita sees others going through the house, she goes back and opens the door closest to the fireplace. Also keeps an ear open for any sounds of trouble from the black squad.
Ankita - The centerpiece of this wood-paneled dining room is a carved mahogany table surrounded by eight high-backed chairs with sculpted armrests and cushioned seats. A crystal chandelier hangs above the table, which is covered with resplendent silverware and crystalware polished to a dazzling shine. Mounted above the marble fireplace is a mahogany-framed painting of an alpine vale. The wall paneling is carved with elegant images of deer among the trees. Red silk drapes cover the windows, and a tapestry depicting hunting dogs and horse-mounted aristocrats chasing after a wolf hangs from an iron rod bolted to the south wall.
Seeing black squad starting to investigate Hofaen mumbles to himself "well, might as well try to help" and crosses the room opening the door to the right of the one Ankita has just entered through, to see if he can further aid the search.
Baldwin - The kitchen is tidy, with dishware, cookware, and utensils neatly placed on shelves. A worktable has a cutting board and rolling pin atop it. A stone, dome-shaped oven stands near the east wall, its bent iron stovepipe connecting to a hole in the ceiling. Behind the stove and to the left is a thin door leading to a well-stocked pantry. Behind a small door in the southwest corner of the kitchen is a dumbwaiter—a 2-foot-wide stone shaft containing a wooden elevator box attached to a simple rope-and-pulley mechanism that must be operated manually.
Baldwin, having stayed up on watch all night feels that he has earned himself a snack! He grabs some bread and cheese and checks to see if it isn't moldy or off
Zindarik cautiously goes from room to room as the others begin to open doors. Content that every room of the ground floor has been seen, he remarks, "Those ghostly children--Rose and Thorn--mentioned the monster being in the basement, did they not? Seems odd that we've found stairs that lead up but none that lead below."
After a pause, he adds,"And that horrible howling sound we heard not too long ago...that came from beneath us, no?"
Having deemed the food good to eat, Baldwin hacks off hunks of cheese and bread from a wheel and loaf he found with his talons. He calls back to the others "*Chip chip chip* The food in the pantry is pretty good!"

Hofaen pulls his knife from his belt and begins to use the point of it to slowly and methodically search through the cloaks and top hat only using his other hand when satisfied nothing is about to emerge.
Hofaen - Aside from a plum-sized spider that falls out of one of the cloaks and scurries out into the main floor, everything in the closet appears safe.
Summer - You climb the steps to the top landing and see a dusty balcony with a suit of black plate armor standing against one wall, draped in cobwebs. Oil lamps are mounted on the oak-paneled walls, which are carved with woodland scenes of trees, falling leaves, and tiny critters.

Zindarik studies the longsword over the fireplace, and is tempted to take hold of it, but defers to his better judgment.
The sound that rumbles through the house, prompts him to say, "This is no place for leisurely exploration."
He then pushes through the single door to the right of the staircase...

Hofaen - This cloakroom has several black cloaks hanging from hooks on the walls. A top hat sits on a high shelf.
Baldwin takes the last unexplored door near the staircase

Baldwin - All the food in the pantry appears fresh as far as you can tell and you are able to find a loaf of bread and a wheel of cheese.

Baldwin - The food, despite looking perfectly fine, tastes bland and flavorless. It doesn't seem to sate any hunger you might have either.

Zindarik - As if responding to your mention, another howl echoes from somewhere below. The glassware in the dining room rattles as the howl rings out.

Summer - You climb the steps to the top landing and see a dusty balcony with a suit of black plate armor standing against one wall, draped in cobwebs. Oil lamps are mounted on the oak-paneled walls, which are carved with woodland scenes of trees, falling leaves, and tiny critters.
