An impressed hum escaped Sirron when he saw the bookshelf swing open. He was just about to go tell the others about the discovery of the secret room when he noticed Melantha dash towards the room. He hesitated for a moment before following after them as his curiosity got the better of him.
"This is..." He trailed off when noticed the skeleton in the chest and took a step backwards even though there was a small part of him that was curious about the letter in it's hand. "I don't know how long that has been in there but maybe we should tell the others about this so they can join us before we go into the room with the skeleton in the chest...? I have my doubts that it'll attack us but it's always good to be prepared for just about anything."
Xai'Bo turns to Day, motions to Ruel and Mavis and replies, "We have been trying to figure out what the enchantment is on this armour". He points to the library and continues, "There are still two of the party looking in the library. I'm sorry I still don't know all your names".
"I don't think the skeleton can move, but if someone put intentionally left that there then we should continue onwards with a little more caution." As Sirron turned away from the secret room a soft sigh escaped him. Then he made his way back towards the doors of the library, hoping that they'd believe him when he told them about what they had found in the library. Once he was close enough to the door he took a breath and tapped his fingers against his coat.
"Guys I don't want to alarm you but we just found a skeleton in a chest in this... hidden room that was hidden behind a bookshelf. Perhaps it would be a good idea if we all went in just in case the skeleton isn't as dead as it first appeared." As he spoke he glanced back towards the area he had just came from hoping that he was wrong about that last part.
Ruel could not ignore a request of aid from a comrade, with their being no evidence so far of Walter and any threat on the floor above.
Ruel checked his shield was ready made his way across the floor towards Sirron and library.
When he had made it across the room to Sirron. "Perhaps I can help here Torm has granted me the gift of sensing the undead, it appears it may be of some use here."
Ruel reaches deep within himself finding again his fledgling abilities and tries to sense the foul energy of the undead.
Xai'Bo looks from Mavis and Day, to Sirron and decides the former pair have got this armour enchantment business handled. He wanders into the library behind Ruel, standing just to the side and slightly behind him. He places one hand gently on his shoulder and says, "May the Tree of Life also guide you", and casts Guidance on Ruel. The other hand takes a firmer grip around his staff.
(OOC: Guidance on Ruel. I know it doesn't work with Divine Sense, but Xai'Bo doesn't, and it will help for initiative if nothing else :-) )
"You have the ability to sense undead? That's good to know, I hope that there aren't any undead in the house but if there are then we should deal with them." Sirron glanced down at the floor as he said the last part. Then he looked back up and made his way back to the secret room but not before motioning for the others to follow him.

After taking his time examining the runes on the armour, Mavis manages to remember that similar runes have been etched on many of the armours decorating the place he grew up on.
'The Citadel of Strategic Militancy has some of this same runes etched on fallen soldiers' old battle armours,' Mavis explains. 'They are used to animate the armours in the event that more soldiers are needed to guard the citadel. I do not know if it is currently active, but it has not attacked us yet to defend the house.'
Entering the library himself after the others migrates inside, Mavis sees with his own eye the sight of a skeleton partially trapped inside the chest with a letter in hand. His curiosity is peaked when the positioning of the skeleton seems peculiar.
'What does that looks like to you?' Mavis asks to the other. His face furrows in curiosity and worry. 'From the way the body is positioned, it looks as if they are purposefully arranged in such a way that the letter is in plain view. Perhaps that letter may give us more information. Anyone has any magic that can get the letter without us entering the room? I am afraid of setting off some traps if we are to enter this... secret chamber. From what I have read during lessons with the Knights, fake objects would be arranged in such a way to be enticing but only bring pain and death in the end. The Citadel has a couple of such rooms as a defensive measure in case the fortress is breached.'
{I'd like to check for any traps, just in case. Which one is that? Investigation: 13 or Perception: 19}
Ruel snaps out of his reverie nodding in gratitude for Xai'Bo's guidance.
"The only thing I sense is the fulness of this fog, I sense no infernal or undead being within the immediate vicinity that goes for skeletons in the closet."
Ruel nods at Mavis thoughts. "I agree we should be wary of tricks but surely more knowledge will clear our path." The lure of new knowledge was strong and Ruel was keen to see the scrolls message.
"Who doesn't have a few 'skeleton's' in their closet? Although I'd hope that it wasn't an actual skeleton like that one... do you think that whoever put that there thought they were being clever with a bit of word play?" Sirron thought aloud with a soft chuckle. Then he nodded slightly before glancing back towards where they had come from for a moment. "With any luck the others might be able to distract the children long enough for us to do what we have to do in there. But on the off chance they don't I have a plan, that being said... what if this was another reason as to why they tried to leave?"
He nodded slightly in agreement as he glanced into the room for a moment. "Knowledge is a powerful tool and in the right hands it could also be a powerful weapon even if it's not as sharp as a sword or a dagger. Even if our path is still a bit hazy afterwards I have a feeling that we'll manage to make it through this."

Xai'Bo looks back out the library door to see where the children were after Melantha's comment. "I will distract the children", he says making his way out of the library and over to the children. He didn't quite understand all the warnings, but felt it best not to just walk into the room with the skeleton which was has instinct. "Come children, show me the fine painting of your family. I recognise you both, I take it those are your parents and brother Walter? Why is it your mother looks cross do you think?", he says when he reaches them, motioning them over to the painting.
He takes a closer look at the painting, knowing that things aren't often what they seem in this house.
Perception: 18 (Passive Perception is 15, not sure how we are using that as different DMs do different things)
"Yeah, that's them. The painting was Father's idea." explains Rose. "He wanted one with all of the family in it. Mother didn't really want to be there, she said she had better things to do."
(Some things can only be detected by being actively examined, like the enchanted suits, passive perception is mainly used for environmental threats, like the wolves.)

"..........y-yes yes. Please go tell others. I'll watch the, um...the skeleton..."
The green one stood 'frozen' at the entrance to the secret room, not daring to budge.

Day will give a quick look at the armor to see if he can recognize the enchantment.

You recognise the suit's runes as being related to the animate objects spell. Perhaps the suits serve as guardians of the house.
(the above post, but also:)
Though the runes are correct, there is no power in them. The suits won't be moving any time soon.
The fog is as foul as ever, but you can't sense any new presences.

Melantha, who was still standing just outside the secret room, turned their head to look at the individuals who were coming over to investigate.
Their expression was...serious...eyes slightly widened in silent alarm.
They spoke in a low tone. Low enough for only the first two adults to hear.
"... don't let the children see this."

(Apparently so. One of the reasons for my taking on of a large party was that people tend to disappear from PBP.)
