"Thank you, thank you" Halei greets the crowd as they turn to her, she perks up like a sunflower and eats up all the attention suddenly on at her. She bows a few times "It was nothing really, I am humbled to accept this prize," and makes a show of accepting the prize from the flumph and inspecting it once it is handed to her and then putting it in her bag.
She then spends a little time mingling and peacocking to anyone who will listen, talking about her "technique" and giving pointers to the others playing the game. She gets very caught up in all this, and if there were no one here to remind her of their mission she would probably stay in there all day.
"If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all," grumble Strider with a wry grin. "Come on Halei, we have places to see. You've peacocked long enough." When she is through, they continue to pursue the previous clues they've found. Strider keeps his eyes open for...anything. Clues. Their other 2 friends. Pickpockets.
"Good thing it's not about luck, friend," Halei smirks subtlety and cracks her knuckles, still buzzing with overconfidence. "Maybe we should go find the other two?"
"Well hippity, hoppity" mumbled Balliol as the rude Grung turned away. He wondered what 'Cobber' meant - and after turning around wondered if it had been aimed at them or at the . . .bugbear o' lantern. Now that was a curious sight.
Wildred seemed to move and speak quicker this time, hurrying to assist the odd librarian. Balliol stood back and watched the odd interaction. Somehow he suspected dropping books really was Wildred's area of expertise. He just smiled at the new comer, pointed at his own head and said, "nice hat!" Beyond that, he left it to the wizard.
While fun was had, you feel you have neglected your purpose for attending the carnival and decide to get back to work and chase up some leads. Between the two of you, you have mentioned several options.
You can continue after your distraction to check out the wooden mannequin of Natasha the Dark over by the Hall of Illusions, as discussed with Dirla here.
Halei suggested going back to find Tumblestrum here.
You can go and find Wildred and Balliol as suggested here.
OR you can go anywhere and do anything in the carnival.
I will await your choice.
Wildred
You reach down to help the bugbear pick up his books. You see a couple of titles. "The Big Bugbears Book of Metrical Verse", "Golly, Good Gibberish for Goblinoids", and one with no writing on the front. Just a bound, perhaps notebook, you assume, as it has handwritten notes almost falling out.
The bugbear looks at you with gratitude in his eyes through his makeshift helmet. "Thank you, Sir!" he says in an uncharacteristically gentle and well-spoken voice.
Balliol
(ooc: 'Cobber' is Aussie slang for 'Buddy') The bugbear o' lantern looks at you and tips his helmet/hat.
Just as he has picked up his books, the grung calls out to him. "Burly, tell the Misters that I saw that Kenku making trouble over by the Pixies place a short while back".
"Hmm," replies Burly, pausing to think. "I will look into it, Sir." He glances at you both and, with a smile, starts on his way again.
"Let's check out the mannequin. See what clues we might uncover, before heading to the 'employee only zone'. We can keep an eye open for our friends en route - or for more clues. Watch for pick pockets!"
Wildred took the lead again, this time heading off after Burly. Well, thought Bugs, if the Toad knew anything then perhaps the bugbear o'lantern was going to find the Misters to deal with some unruly Kenku. That should be interesting. Normally the thought of a bugbear playing the role of muscle would have seemed perfectly natural, but Burly seemed a bit special. It was generally considered normal if a bugbear said hello with a morning star to the head. It was a greeting of sort, but not the type Bugs usually preferred. But that didn't appear to be Burly's style. It was hard not to like the guy a minute after meeting him. He seemed more likely to greet someone by . . . doing something Wildred would do that did not include big weapons to the head. It seemed bugbears were bugbears, just not at the fair. And this bugbear just might be carrying a message to the misters. That could be helpful.
"Good idea, Wildred. Lets follow your new friend." And with that he followed the wizard who was following the bugbear who was wearing a pumpkin on his head. Why not? It seemed that it was just that sort of day. And since it was that sort of day in that sort of place he kept an eye out for anything of that sort that might be happening.
Burly plods on from the snail racing area, he turns left onto the carnival thoroughfare and heads off to do whatever it is a poetry reading bugbear does.
Wildred, You decide to take off after him, stopping him in his tracks. He turns to you again and politely asks, "What is it I can help you with, Sir".
You ask him about the whereabouts of Mr Witch and Mr Light. Burly tells you that he doesn't rightly know where they are now but assumes the carnival owners are probably preparing for the big extravaganze tonight.
Balliol, You follow Wildred, and while he is making conversation with Burly, you spy in the distance just a bit further on from the Hall of Illusions, Stalker and Halei.
Stalker & Halei
You make your way over to the Hall of Illusions, where Dirla directed you to find the mannequin. Just to the right of the Hall, you see the wooden mannequin of a grinning, raven-haired young woman in witch's attire and a green flowing cape hovering inside a glass cabinet. At the top of the cabinet, a sign reads "Tasha the Wizard—Known for Her Hideous Laughter."
A halfling couple holds hands as they approach the glass cabinet in front of you. One of the halflings is wearing butterfly face paint. He drops to one knee and pulls a small box from his pocket. His sweetheart bursts into laughter and begins rolling on the ground. The halfling in face paint begins sobbing and darts into the nearby Hall of Illusions.
Both Halei and Stalker, please make a DC 15 Intelligence (History) check. If you succeed, please read the following spoiler...
You recall that Tasha was one of the names reputedly used by Iggwilv the Witch Queen, a legendary archmage.
Stalker looks down at the laughing halfling saying, "Nice. You enjoy torturing kittens, too?"
He turns to 'Tasha the Wizard' and knocks on the glass. "Hello in there! Can you tell us anything about Prismeer? Or a scar-cheek woman named Zybilna?"
You wander over to get a closer look and interrogate the mannequin of Tasha, Iggwilv the Witch Queen, Natasha the Dark. Stepping around a halfling, giggling and laughing as she rolls around on the ground.
Both Halei and Stalker, please make a Wisdom saving throw.
( ooc - I got a 14 with bonus.) I keep my head on a swivel...perhaps I can see the rest of our quartet. Plus, I hope to avoid pick pockets or missing a woman with a scar on her cheek.
Balliol saw the others in the distance as he followed after Wildred. He waved to get their attention but didn't do anything more at the moment. He wanted to wait and see what happened with Wildred and the bugbear o'lantern. He was curious about the extravaganza and still wondered if the fellow might not lead them to the kenku which might be where the misters would be. But following bugbears who didn't want to be followed, even bookish ones, was an interesting choice.
He kept an eye on Wildred but tried to get the attention of the others. He also tried to not lose sight of them as he waited. He would point out their location to Wildred and head that way if nothing came of the conversation.
Halei eyes the mannequin as she approaches. She also looks around the Hall of Illusion to see if there are any clues that may be helpful.
(I just realized I misinterpreted the last post. I just corrected it.)
"Extravaganza you say and where should we be to catch this?what does entail, I do need to speak with the 2 misters about a matter of extreme importance?"
Wildred notices his 2 friends but feels it is important to press the subject of finding the 2 misters.
Wildred You ask Burly if you can speak with the Misters.
Burly, looks a bit taken aback by your request. "I can organise an audience with Mr Witch and Mr Light for you, Sir", he replies. "Meet me at the back of the Big Top after the Extravaganze. I must be off, Sir", and with that, he casts you a smile and tips his helmet at Balliol and rushes off, presumably to find a trouble-making Kenku.
(ooc: More information regarding the Extravaganze can be found on the Carnival Map on the campaign page.)
Balliol Just as Burly, tips his jack-o'-lantern helm at you and rushes off, you spy Halei and Stalker quite a ways off (fifty feet or so) in the distance. Stalker is intensely investigating what looks to be a glass cabinet. Your attempts to grab their attention are noticed by Halei as she turns around.
Stalker You carefully investigate the mannequin in the glass cabinet. It is an exquisitely crafted, life-sized statue of Tasha the Wizard. The closer you look at it, the more life-like and natural it looks. She wears long hair tied in a loose ponytail, an expression of interest on her face, and there on here right cheek, just below her eye is a chicken's foot tattoo, carved into the statue. Her eyes seem to peer right into your soul. No matter where you stand, she is looking right at you, and you find yourself staring intently into her eyes. It takes a shake of your head to realise what is happening and release your mind from the statue's capture.
Halei You are amused by the laughing halfling woman. You offer a comforting pat on her back, but it goes unnoticed as she laughs uncontrollably, rolling around on the grass. You direct your attention to the Hall of Illusions, where the ring-bearing halfling romantic has runoff. You glimpse in the distance, Balliol, waving to get your attention.

'Well maybe we should follow old burly, maybe he can lead us to Mr witch and mister light?"
He urges balliol and takes off after the bugbear
"I wonder where Halei and stalker got to?"he says aloud though clearly just thinking out loud.

He turns to 'Tasha the Wizard' and knocks on the glass. "Hello in there! Can you tell us anything about Prismeer? Or a scar-cheek woman named Zybilna?"
Halei's mouth purses and she awkwardly chuckles at the scene. She pats the laughing halfling on the back.
