He grips the poker in both hands before relinquishing it to Randy.
"Who you calling, old timer, Benjamin? I remember when you were born!... hmmm... But I was keeping watch all day, only fair you get a chance to prove yourself."
He pulls Randy closer and slips something to him. "Here, take this in case you need it... but if Little Evie spots it, you didn't get it from me!"He gives Randy a conspiratorial wrinkly wink as the ranger feels the glass of a flask against his palm.

Randy goes poker faced for a second, then puts on a reassuring smile. " I won't say a word, sir." He slides the flask into his pocket to examine more closely later. He helps the old gentleman get settled again.
Randy suddenly has beads of sweat on his forehead. His smile is suddenly a little sickly. His imagination can too clearly visualize what could have happened if the old fellow had accidently dropped the flask. Soto voice: "What the devil was he doing with this!?"
Dornikal pokes his head out, and hears the clangor of the bells, people moving about in a hurry, excited or angry shouts in the distance... and an orange glow lighting the sky more than candles in windows could account for. He gives an inhale, and catches a whiff of smoke on the night air.

Dornikal gives a shake of his head and goes back in to report,
"Looks like a fire towards (wherever it was towards). Can't say what caused the fire, but it may be worth having the Ulmwin fly up and give it a check, if yer willing to take the risk Ulmwin."
Randy is suddenly wondering if it's a good idea to be carrying a flask of alchemist's fire on his person. If the fire was arson instead of accidental... He starts wondering if there's some place he can safely stash/dispose of his "present" from the old gnome.
He could stash it in his room, or find a spot along the way, though if he tucks it under a bush or something outside, there's a chance someone who is less aware of a need for caution finds it. A bit paradoxically, perhaps the safest place would be in Whoopsie's workshop, it is certainly unlikely to make the place any less hazardous, but having not visited there yet, Randy's not quite sure of its location (had been provided directions though).
((I'm liking the RP of Randy being worried about his arsenal, but I'm unlikely to force anything to explode on him.))

There is a muffled explosion that rattles the windows of the inn, the gathered patrons startling. Evelyn calls on her small army of relatives to provide some pastries and refreshments to folks too awake to return to bed, and wanting to stay in the common room and speculate what might be happening.
"Muffin sir? There'll be some cookies coming out in a bit too."

Ulmwin curses a few uncouth words in gnomish under his breath.
"I'm gonna go fly up to at least get a better idea of what is going on," he muses, ignoring Randy's earlier warning... Although he'd probably be cautious for any guards that might try shooting at him and fly up a bit more cautious.
Randy accepts a muffin with gratitude, catches Hank's eye and nods towards the door. "It's a little close in here, let's step out and get some air." The explosion makes him say something rather pithy in orcish under his breath.

When Randy gets a chance to do so discreetly, he pulls the flask out and examines it.

((Randy ever gets hit with a major fire spell, he'll go up like an ammo dump.))
Dornikal watches the old man/Randy interaction with detached interest, missing the whole flask business.
