Tinker graciously takes the guidance offered by Longarr.  As they near the gateway leading into the university's grounds, the large figure turns slightly toward the others, "I don't suppose we have a way to track them down once we're close?"

The fly buzzes sadly, but complies by flying Dornikal at a more sedate pace, flitting from building to building, but making sure to perch on horizontal surfaces so that the dwarf doesn't have to hang on any harder than he is already wont to do.

Randy grimaces. "I'll give it another shot at tracking. Our furry friend would have likely come through here.  Maybe I can pick his trail now."

Randy can see the scuff marks of several things, including what appears to have been people fleeing from the scene.  He still can't pick out the hell hounds foot prints however.

"Too much foot traffic, some of it running. The signs are all obscured."

 He looks resigned.  " I suggest we move towards the main campus and look for signs of activity.  If worse comes to worse, we take a short rest so I can try to detect where the portal is."

The University grounds seem oddly quiet, actually. An observation that throws Randy a bit, as he expected the chaos to have led back to here, if that was where the creatures were headed... if they have come this way and headed deeper into the University, they've done so without setting further fires once they got here... or they somehow beat them here?

Dornikal hovers above, looking for telltale fires at the university, waiting for direction from below.

Ulmwin, as your companions are looking about down below, Dornikal and his mount hovering nearby with a steady buzz, you catch a glimpse of what might have been a flash of light from one of the distant buildings, up the hill and through some of the landscaping and trees. 

Ulmwin immediately points out the building in question to dornikal before trying to gesture toward the others. 

"over there! I think it saw something!" 

Dornikal squints in the direction indicated and says,

"Aye'll-" he stops himself and awkwardly pats the fly, "we'll go check it out."

He'll direct the fly to fly towards the distant buildings, taking a deep sniff instinctively as the get close.

Randy watches intently from below and follows along on the ground.

Dornikal and the as-yet-not-worthy-of-a-name fly zip towards where Ulmwin indicated, and sees another flash through a window, this time from a little ways away, a passage that seems to be an enclosed hallway connecting parts of the complex.

((I'm assuming Dornikal is going to want to look either way, but if trying to be subtle about peeking through the window, give me a stealth check for both D and the fly (+1 mod).))

Within, peering though the thick panes of glass, he sees a canine figure, with a long snout and sharp ears, but unlike the hell hounds, this one walks upright, and is dressed in robes, carrying a tome under one arm.

Dornikal does get a distinct pungent stab of fiend, as the ears go still on the creature as it looks back over its shoulder at him and the buzzing fly, lips pulling back in a snarl. Its attention is soon pulled away as a trio of guards appear at the far end of the hallway, loosing bolts at them, which all miss, the creature twisting fluidly to let them sail past down the hall. They raise a robed arm, a tome cradled in the the other arm, tucked close to the body but open, they flick their fingers, and a purplish pink clawed paw manifests at the far end of the hallway, slashing through the first guard, before missing the other two. The remaining pair fall back, loosing bolts, one of which strikes the canine fiend a glancing blow in the upper arm. They wince as their hand comes away bloody, but they lick it clean and continue onward, too busy to deal with a scruffy dwarf on a fly.

Dornikal gives the fly a disappointed look at its inability to buzz more quietly.

"Yer doing yer best aye guess."

He mutters quietly before yelling down to the people following,

"Aye, uh, aye see a dog thing in here. Its walking on its hind legs, and aye somehow know it is a fiend? Bless Dumathoin! Oh, its got a book and..."

He watches the combat,

"It's killing guards! Aye'm going in!"

Dornikal looks for a location he can enter the building and engage.
