“Ida, could you check the front exit and see if you can see him, Agnarr you the back exit. Don’t go out, just take a look, if he has got too far we’ll never find him”, Darwin says trying to direct the others to block the exits without letting on what he suspects.
“You know you were telling me that you can make people a bit dopey? Can you do it on that Elf with the green eyes”, he then says telepathically to Caper.
Caper flies over to the Elf enthusiastically, but quietly, still invisible. He then lets out a euphoric breath.
Darwin readies himself to act whether Caper is successful or not, calling out to the others, “I think the Elf there may be the brother, look at his eyes!”
Caper Action: Euphoria Breath, DC 13 Wis Save (See spoiler for effects)
Euphoria Breath (Recharge 5–6). The dragon exhales a puff of euphoria gas at one creature within 5 feet of it. The target must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw, or for 1 minute, the target can’t take reactions and must roll a d6 at the start of each of its turns to determine its behavior during the turn:
1–4. The target takes no action or bonus action and uses all of its movement to move in a random direction.
5–6. The target doesn’t move, and the only thing it can do on its turn is make a DC 11 Wisdom saving throw, ending the effect on itself on a success.
Seeing the Elf dazed by Caper’s breath, Darwin turns to Agnarr.
”Restrain this one whilst he is muddled. You said your brother’s vanity made him keep his green eyes, could this elf be him?”, he says urgently, pointing at the Elf.
"How long have you all been at work today? How many hours have each of you been in this workshop and did anyone come or go or have you all be here together?" Ida speaks loudly and urgently towards the workers to get and keep their attention.
"Agnarr, it may be better if you take a step back from the elf until we are sure. I'll restrain them." Ida moves to take over for Agnarr so that there is some space between the two.
'Who the hell are you?' one Dwarf worker asks in exasperation.
Another, an older human, steps forwards, arms raised in a calming manner. 'How about you let Alessandro go and we'll talk about whatever it is that has you so worked up.' His voice is calm and you get the distinct impression he thinks you're all unhinged and is trying to avoid violence.
'We all got here first thing, as we normally do. The only people who've come and gone are you folks and Brennan who came through shortly before you all arrived.' he pauses for a moment and scans the party, 'I thought you had Antonius with you?' he asks, a tone of concern in his voice.
"Antonius is trying to locate Brennan to speak with him, we are looking for someone else. We have been acquaintances of Antonius, protecting him as he traveled when he was presenting these inventions. That's why you haven't seen Antonius as often lately, and why Brennan has been coming more often. Has he been coming to give you instructions/orders each day as he told Antonius he would?"
Ida softens her tone and loosens her grip on the elf so that they are more comfortable. She looks to Agnarr to see if he looks any more confident in the identity of the elf.
Hamish follows everyone else, feeling a bit out of his element around so many people. As everyone focuses on the green-eyed elf and Ida's words, Hamish will say quietly to her, "Should we just tell everyone the truth? The evidence points in favor of us not being suspects. They might remember any changes in Brennan's behavior that can help us." While saying this, Hamish continues to look around the room, watching for anything else, recalling what Agnarr said about his brother being calculating.

Ida gets the impression that they are not earning the workers trust with this display, and that the elf hasn't done anything to be suspicious since they arrived. It isn't possible that the same person could be both Brennan and the Elf at the same time in the same place. And really, why would he want to be in the shop doing any kind of labor when he could be anywhere doing anything else to help his own plan. She releases the elf and smiles.
"We apologize, we are lacking sleep and don't have alot of information to go on. Simply that someone with "striking green eyes" may be the one trying to hurt Antonius. If your peers vouch for you and say you are working with them each day with no unexplained absences, we will take that and offer our sincere apologies for taking up your time. To make things right, I'd like to offer you each 2 gold pieces for delaying your work, and to ask that if anyone suspicious comes looking for Brennan or Antonius, you send word to us via this messenger."
Ida hands them each 2 GP and a piece of paper with a name and address written on it. She motions for the others to follow her out of the workshop and back to the street. "We should keep moving, and get out of town quickly."
"Well that was embarrassing, damn elves and their twinkly green eyes. Sorry about that", he says to the others.
"I do wonder though Agnarr, what languages does your brother speak? If he does disguise himself as a different race, that could be a good way of catching him out without the aggression", he adds as they wander off to retrieve the horses and bolt out of town.
Agnarr pauses to think, 'My brother was always the smart one and liked to interact with visitors, I've heard him speak a number of languages I'm afraid. Common, Elvish, Draconic and Leonin predominantly. I can't recall ever seeing a Dwarf visitor, nor any of the small folk or the people's of the plain.'
(OOC: Yes, let's rock and roll and put the city behind us :-) )
Darwin sighs, "Another great idea that falls flat. Tricksy one this brother of yours. I feel the need to get away from the city, feel the wind in my hair again. Can we just get out of here please?".
"I think Caper is eager to explore the land as well".
"Unfortunately I feel we have much to discover about your brother and very little time to stop him from whatever his plans are. We will absolutely do our best though, to help you and to help Haukberg. And anything else he's trying to conquer.
We do need to make haste, I fear the more time he is in the shadows, the stronger he becomes." Ida leads them out of town quickly, through back streets where they are less likely to be seen. Once out of sight of anyone and far from hearing distance, she slows down. "Okay Agnarr, what exactly are we looking for?"
Agnarr nods, 'Its an amulet of the goddess Hira, the goddess of health and healing. Legend says that it can heal any ailment.' he explains.
'A Islander ship...acquired the amulet years ago. The ship was chased by Confederation ships and sought to shelter and hide in the Lousumpf, as our ships can run much shallower waters than the Confederation fleet. It was never heard of again. We find the ship, we find the Amulet.' he says matter of factly.
There is an elf with startlingly green eyes, the color of freshly polished emeralds who is currently tanning strips of leather.
“Ida, could you check the front exit and see if you can see him, Agnarr you the back exit. Don’t go out, just take a look, if he has got too far we’ll never find him”, Darwin says trying to direct the others to block the exits without letting on what he suspects.

Ida moves to block the possible exist and see what Darwin has planned.
The elf stops working and suddenly walks across the room, prompting several annoyed noises from his coworkers who he bumps into as he goes.
Seeing the Elf dazed by Caper’s breath, Darwin turns to Agnarr.
”Restrain this one whilst he is muddled. You said your brother’s vanity made him keep his green eyes, could this elf be him?”, he says urgently, pointing at the Elf.
”Obviously don’t hurt him, in case I am wrong”.
Agnarr moves sharply across the room and grapples the elf. 'He could be?' he answers the question unsure

Everyone looks incredibly confused.

“Better to be sure”, Darwin says a little disappointed not to have found their quarry.
He waits for the answer to Ida’s question, and then happily leaves with the others to fulfil Agnarr’s quest.

Hamish sees nothing abnormal.
'Well, I don't wanna go round bad mouthing my boss, ma'am.' the older man says. 'But no, he mostly trusts us to run things without his micromanaging '

Darwin follows the others out the workshop.

Is the party heading out of town?

Darwin smiles and speaks to Caper in Sylvan, "Looks like a treasure hunt, you will be very useful for that with you ability to fly".
"How long is the coast around there? Will we need to travel by ship ourselves?"
