I don't think a private OOC chat is necessary, as any further building will be done in actual play. I was just taking advantage of the lull while we wait for Hamish.
Darwin, since you're at the bottom of the ladder, could you make a dexterity saving throw, in case Hamish fails his when it's made and the play will run a little smoother once it resumes.
((My apologies! Holiday travel and inclement weather make for a time suck. Back home and should be more reliable for posting. Welcome, Ray/Toryn! All the background stuff sounds good to me. I like the connection to Ida as it works well to have Lucy be the connection.))
Hamish peers through the grimy window and hears everyone below calling out. He is about to respond when he gasps as the eyes appear and he scrambles in a moment of panic.
Hamish, startled by the eyes, nearly falls from the ladder. Darwin readied himself to catch the falling urchin. He falls only a few feet but manages to catch himself back on the ladder, breathing heavy but otherwise fine.
Darwin braces himself for a moment, thinking he was going to have to break Hamish's fall, and likely some bones of his own in the process. He sighs in relief as Hamish catches himself.
Toryn looks impatient as the others focus on Hamish not trying to fly. "Well come on then. Out with it. What did ye see to cause such a fright?!" He prepares himself for a brawl with whatever is outside the window.
Hamish breathes heavily, knuckles turning white where he grasps the ladder tightly. He looks down and hoarsely calls out as loud as he can, "Eyes like cat's eyes in the window, but nothing came out or tried to ... I think." Hamish nervously looks back up at the window. Then climbs back up slowly to see if the eyes are still at the glass.
Darwin backs away from the ladder, looking to Ida and Toryn. “It would probably make more sense for one of you to stand underneath the ladder in case he falls, I think he would squash me”, he says with a laugh.
"The only reason your spine survives carrying your pumpkin head is because air don't have no weight. Now about the cat eyes... were it a cat or were it sumthin else with cat eyes?"
Aldheim clears his throat from where he has been watching this a few feet behind, 'I already done told you little man, they look like cats but they damn well ain't. There's something evil bout em.'
'Now is you folk gon' do somethin' bout dem or am I gon' have ta hire a Merc company.' he spits that one side and grumbles something under his breath that sounds an awful lot like he's cursing the Duke's pox ridden genitals.
Ida is fully aware that the group not handling this infestation well won't do them any good in the near future. She feels like Hamish is secure enough, so she tells the Darwin and Toryn that she will be right back. She walks the perimeter and counts the number of windows, size of doors, and tries to see if there are any weak spots from the previous attempts to kill the creatures.
Ida discovers no obvious damage to the building from previous attempts at removing the infestation. She identifies that the windows that sit high up run the perimeter, and form a basically continuous line, and that there are few doors. There is a regular door, approximately 7 feet tall and 4 feet wide on the side of the building that faces the party and the water. To its right there are 2 large cargo doors, that take up most of this side of the building. There was one more regular door that sits on the opposite side of the building in the back right corner from where the party currently stands.
Toryn, are currently wearing your armor? Or do you intend to don it once inside? If you're wearing your chainmail, I'm going to need you to roll again, representing the disadvantage Chainmail imposes.
Also, do you mean the door on the other side of the building? The party are currently standing outside of the warehouse facing it's front that faces the water. There is a door on this side, the two large cargo doors, and the door on the opposite side of the building from the party.
Darwin’s good humour disappears with Toryn’s over the top insult. He reaches for the well of power inside, but something gives him pause. It was not the time to cause trouble, he just had to get through this job and then he would be free. He wouldn’t have to put up with the surly dwarf after this.
He hears Aldheim speak, another one that looks down on others, and sees both Ida and Toryn move away.
”Give us a chance”, he replies to Aldheim, “you said yourself these things were dangerous, we are just being careful”.

Toryn eyes Darwin annoyed. "I'm small and hairy, not made of rubber you twit."
He moves under the ladder while continuing to mutter insults about Darwin
Darwin throws the short tempered dwarf a cheeky grin. “You’re wider than I am tall, perfect for landing on”, he says with a chuckle.

Toryn approaches the door on the other side of the room. Let me see if I can get a quick view of what we're facing. Just a glance."

The one near us. And no armor as I'm trying to be quick and discreet

With a natural twenty, you reach the door silently.
Aldheim nods, 'Well, that ships pulling in now, so I gotta go take care of that.' and leaves
