Hamish listens to Darwin and Antonio discuss payment before he makes a sudden realization. "Wait. I've never worked for a wage beyond a handful of scraps. What is a fair wage for this kind of work?"
The Artificer holds up a hand as you all speak at once, 'First, an electrical sword can be done. I cannot, however, make it shoot lightning or anything to those extremes, it would be very similar to making a fire sword. Second, I cannot simply perform such an act on your sword, the process begins before the ingots are even smelted.' he answers Toryn first, a bite of annoyance in his words at his previous statement being misunderstood.
Next he turns to Hamish, 'The general rate of pay for unskilled labor is 1 gold piece a day, for skilled is usually 2, hence my initial offer as you are not some randoms stacking crates in a warehouse.' he explains calmly
Finally he turns to Darwin. 'That's a good question. There's a long list but I could make a prosthetic limb that functions exactly like what it's replacing. A tankard that can fill itself three times a day. A tankard that you can drink from without ever getting drunk. A lantern that tracks a certain kind of being. It's a long list, friend.'
Ida perks up, with an idea. "A prosthetic limb intrigues me. Hamish is in pain when speaking due to damage done years ago. Could you create something that would help his vocal cords?"
Antonius glances at the half elf and back to Ida, 'Well. I don't know if the young one would like his vocal chords replaced by prosthetics but yes, definitely. I may be able to cobble some sort of localized analgesic that could be implanted in his existing chords, too. Though that would still be mildly invasive.'
Alright artificer. I don't be trusting magic none, but rumors have been heard in the mines of powers to wake one when enemies approach. Given our occupation, this could be a handy thing. If I were to give ye me sword, could ye make it happen? Toryn looks skeptical, but figures it can't hurt to try. Especially having seen the effects of the lesson in the chancellor's office.
'Such a weapon is within my scope, again, it's about five or six days work, something for the young man's voice would be two or three at most.' he explains, 'If everyone is in agreement that would still leave, and I'll be generous, three days pay in coin for each of you, or one more small creation.'
Will this escorting job be our only time working with ye or should we expect future assignments as well... assuming you're satisfied with our services of course...
Toryn waves the team over for a private discussion.
Here's me thinking he whispers. Hamish needs the voice for some magic, right? So let's get him healed. Then we have 3 options:
1. Split the rest of the payment even among us.
2. Stock up on necessities like rations, elixirs, etc.
Or 3. If he's going to hire us in the future, we take turns using his skills to build us up. But ONLY if he agrees he'll hire us in the future. Keep it fair among us.
He looks to the group for a consensus before they approach the annoying, but potentially useful elf
Darwin shrugs, "I'm easy at this point, something for you Hamish and you Toryn and a little bit of coin, unless you have something you want Ida?".
"Let's get through this job successfully and I'm sure we'll have options, it's about getting a reputation now", he says nodding sagely at his own thought.
"And in truth, I'm eager to just get going and seeing a bit more of this world"
While you have your sidebar, Antonius has his own with the Chancellor.
'If you all impress me adequately and I find myself in need of a group with your talents then I see no reason not to. I also have many friends amongst the Artisan's Guild and someone is always looking for someone to do something.' he says, ensuring to not over promise and remain vague.
'The day after next at dawn.' he says, before draining the rest of his drink. One more puff was taken and then the aromatic wrap was stubbed out. 'I will take my leave now to attend to my preparations, I suggest you do the same.' he turned to the Chancellor, 'Thank you for your assistance in this, Chancellor, and the hospitality. Good day.'
And with that he leaves, leaving you alone with the Chancellor.
Toryn finishes a project he was working on for one of the citizens. He delivers it and then spends a few hours at the tavern before resting and packing for the journey. He arrives at the Priestgate 30 minutes before departure time with his armor on, shield and sword in hand, and battleaxe on his back over his pack.

Darwin frowns, "I wouldn't want to take more than my share".
"What might you be able to do that is similar but only takes 3 days or so?"
Hamish listens to Darwin and Antonio discuss payment before he makes a sudden realization. "Wait. I've never worked for a wage beyond a handful of scraps. What is a fair wage for this kind of work?"
So wait.... my electrical sword can't be done but a Flaming sword can? Why didn't ye say so!

Darwin nods as Ida mentions helping Hamish. "I would be happy if Hamish wants that, and if that sword means so much to you Toryn I won't argue".

Hamish's cheeks go red and he turns away slightly trying to hide his smile at Ida's suggestion. He whispers, "I'd like that very much."

"Well said, Darwin. There is nothing I need or nothing I would add."

“Looks like payment is agreed, when do we leave?”, Darwin says to Antonius.

“Well that could have gone better, but turned out ok in the end”, Darwin says wryly.
”I assume you know when and where we are to meet for this, Chancellor?”
The Chancellor nods, 'Yes, at the Priestsgate, on the northern edge of the city. I agree with Antonius that you should begin preparations.'
How does each character spend their 36 hours before departure?
