Hamish, once outside of the slave pen, your token does indeed work. Usually, when you try to observe, you don't see much of interest. One time though, you do witness her speaking with someone through a stone of far speech.
The only thing you're really able to hear from the conversation was something along the lines of 'Why would you take him?! That's just going to bring attention!' and her explaining it away as 'The opportunity arose'.
Darwin performs his stunt perfectly, causing Gruuk to smile. 'Do you want to get out of here?' he asks
Hamish will share what he learns via the token with Ida and Darwin. He hopes to go out on a work time with either Ida or Darwin, or Cade if he demonstrates some stability, so he can spend more time watching Volen. The cover story would be exhaustion by the work or some kind of fainting spell. Might only work once, but at least they have it if necessary.
Gruuk grins. 'Gruuk is watcher tonight.' he shrugs, 'Maybe Gruuk forget to take key? He waggles his eyebrows suggestively. 'Gruuk leave to make waste, forget to take key, not come back for long time, eh?'
"And what reason would you have for doing that? I am happy to form an alliance if it will get myself and my friends out of here, but I need a reason to trust you", he says quietly. "I see things between you and the usurper Volen are difficult, is that why you would release us?"
Darwin nods and turns away from Gruuk and wanders back to the others.
"It seems Gruuk has had enough and is offering to help us escape, probably to get back at Volen or just annoy her. I cannot say I trust him, but he is offering to leave the first gate open with the keys left for us. We would have to get out of the other gate that will be guarded by the two others, and then get Antonius and flee", he explains.
"What do you all think? It might be a trap or just a game for their entertainment, but I think it is worth trying myself".
"It's the best opportunity we've had. Even if it's a game for their amusement, getting out of here allows both of you to use your magic which gives us an advantage to incapacitate several of the orcs before they realize it's happening. If we can get everyone out of the pen, we could even use it to trap orcs to give us a chance to escape. Especially if we could get Volen in there... She couldn't use any magic to help herself."
Ida's head is spinning with possibilities. She knows they have to get to Antonius and they need to get Volen out of the way. If she is gone, the others will most likely follow Gruuk who doesn't care about them. She can see Peter smiling, which gives her an optimistic feeling.
Agnar grins, 'If they're not ready for us, and we can all get free, there's a good chance we can overwhelm them with sheer surprise. The two outside the gate would be dealt with before anyone else even knew what was happening.'
Hamish is surprised but excited by the possibility of springing an escape. "I can try to see where Volen is before we make our move once I'm past the runes. Then we can potentially surpise her."
"We need a plan to get to Antonius. I don't know that it's a good idea to split up, but it may be the best way to take them by surprise. If we all rush to one area, they could trap us in that area. We need a head count. How many are coming with us to to fight? How many need to be protected from the fight?" Ida makes eye contact with everyone in the pen when asking so that they can respond.
Darwin nods, "Numbers are good. We also need someone to open the other gate without being seen or heard, so the other guards can't raise the alarm before we open it".
"Of those willing to fight, are any sneaky enough to do that?", he adds.
All of the prisoners nod grimly to Ida's enquiry. No one seems to like the idea of staying here.
When asked about stealth the Drow and the Kenku both nod again. 'I have some expertise in that.' the Drow answers. The Kenku then repeats the statement, in the exact same voice.
"To me, it seems like the best option is to try to eliminate as many of the threats as quietly and quickly as possible. The 2 guards by the front gate are priority, followed by any guards close to Antonius. We can steal any weapons from the front guards to use on the rest. I don't think Gruuk will stick around, which is good because he's not someone I'd personally like to try to take on. If we can subdue the majority, Volen will be much easier to capture. I'd very much like to try to get her in this cage where she could possibly tell us where we are. If we trap her, we have leverage. And I'd rather trap her somewhere that her magic is less of a threat. If all else fails, we can seal off the cavern if we can get everyone else out and buy us some time for once we are outside. Thoughts??"
"I think trapping Volen in the cage would be an excellent idea. I would want to find out who gave us away, and what her plans actually are", Darwin replies.
"Whatever our plan is it will have to be flexible, we have no idea what will happen outside the gate, but I am happy to go with your suggestion Ida".
"Who will we entrust the keys with, who will open the gate?", he asks not entirely trusting the Kenku or Drow, but not being a suitable choice himself.

Darwin moves forward, trips comically but rolls and ends up perfectly back on his feet next to the gate.
He gives a sweeping bow.

Darwin looks at Gruuk trying to work out if he is serious.
”As lovely as the accommodation is, it is not exactly to my taste, so yes I would like to get out of here”, he says dryly.

Darwin looks at Gruuk suspiciously.
"And what reason would you have for doing that? I am happy to form an alliance if it will get myself and my friends out of here, but I need a reason to trust you", he says quietly. "I see things between you and the usurper Volen are difficult, is that why you would release us?"
'***** weak.' Gruuk spits on the floor to his side as an answer to your question.
“What about the other guards, even if you leave we still aren’t unguarded?”, Darwin asks still not really clear what was in it for Gruuk.
“Whatever your reason, I am in”, he adds.
'Gruuk only leave gate open.' he says sternly. 'In morning, be ready.'
Darwin nods and turns away from Gruuk and wanders back to the others.

Cade looks around at everyone....
Smears mud on his face and says
"Let's do this."
