Elsewhere about the deck, crossbows are being stocked on the deck in preparation along with ammunition.
The Captain looks frustrated, pacing back and forth and shouting at his men. It seems that he doesn't really have a plan for this scenario, besides adjust the sails and prepare the weapons.
"Agnarr?? Do you or your people have any experience fighting large creatures in the water??" Ida asks frantically. She sees Hamish move to help, and is suddenly very nervous about the 4 of them being separated if the ship couldn't survive whatever was coming at it
Hamish, your help with the lines is appreciated but not overly helpful. The sails snap taut and the Ravensmast begins to surge faster, the crew jostled about the deck by the choppy movement of the ship as it crests and falls over small swells of the sea.
Agnarr's jaw sets and he moves to the collection of weaponry 'Harpoons.' he says simply as he pulls one from the pile and hefts it.
Crew members begin to arm themselves and line the railings.
The wave draws closer, now clearly visible without a seeing glass. Atop it stands a man. White lond hair streaming behind him in the wind of his own momentum, white blond beard braided and corded with precious metals. He wields a trident and a shield as he surfs on the wave. His skin is pale blue, almost greyish and his ears stick out from his hair. His armor looks like fish scales.
Agnarr sighs a name, 'The Sea King.'
A cry of alarm draws attention to a flock of Gulls that has appeared off the stern and is flying down and towards the ship. There's a wierd tapping noise coming from the port side of the ship, opposite to the side of the wave.
"Care to elaborate? Is he benevolent and here to help, or are we screwed?".
Seeing the gulls flying towards the ship and hearing the strange noise, he mentally requests that Caper subtly investigate the noises.
He moves across to the stern himself, and tries to communicate to the gulls that they are peaceful. He waves his arms and rotates them trying to tell them to turn around and not to attack.
(OOC: Trying to use Speak with Small Beasts racial feature, no idea whether that is suitable here).
Agnarr grimaces, 'All I know are stories, legends.' he side eyes you all nervously, 'Benevolent or screwed really depends on who you are with him and, well, it doesn't look like he's coming to have afternoon tea.' Agnarr explains.
Caper reports back that a very large number of crabs are climbing the port side of the ship.
The Gulls sqwuak as if in acknowledgement of the message but continue their flight path.
They dive, hard, and fly across the length of the ship at approximately 6 feet off the deck. The sailors, not knowing how to react to this, do not respond well. Some hit the deck, diving to a prone position. Some freak out, running and waving their arms. Some take a seagull to the face. Some of these overlap.
They swoop back up and away, circling high above and seeming to position for another dive.
The crabs crest the side of the ship and begin to crawl onto the deck, just a red sea of chitin scurrying onto the weather deck. Sailors, mostly those lying on the deck, panic.
The ship turns into pandemonium, all as the Sea King draws closer.
The Captains voice can be heard above the chaos. 'Kick them back to the sea boys!' he calls
Hamish is not taking the situation well and tries to make himself as little as possible and shoved up against a few heavy barrels on deck. He watches the crabs with absolute dread, but asks aloud of his companions, "Wouldn't the king of the sea not have control over birds? Just fish? Or is the sea even bigger than I thought?"
The ship rocks violently as the front of the wave smashes into the hull. This has the unfortunate effect of sending Darwin stumbling forwards into the crab he has picked up. It immediately clamps down on his face.
Take 2 points of piercing damage.
The crest of the wave rides up the ship and from it the Sea King calmly steps onto the weather deck. A deck hand rushes him and is immediately impaled with the butt of his trident, sharpened and honed to a spears point.
'Sailors of the Ravensmast! Lay down your arms and surrender.' he bellows across the deck, shaking the dead man from his weapon with an almost bored seperation.
'Where is the Captain?' he asks. Everyone on the deck freezes, Agnarr's hand rests on the grip of his hammer.
Ida was legitimately in a state of shock at the sights barrelling at her. She saw others moving and kept searching for Peter, because Peter is there when there is actual danger. She couldn't find him. She forced herself to close her eyes and call to him to no avail. Finally, as the Sea King came aboard she heard Peter's voice in her ear "Give him what he wants if possible, but don't let yourself go into the water. This is not a time to try to be cute, Ida."
Peter's warning snaps her back and she immediately focuses to find Darwin and Hamish. She sees Hamish nearly tucked away behind barrels. She can't find Darwin as easily and panic jumps up in her throat. She keeps scanning while focusing her energy towards whatever power that gave her wings the last time. She doesn't know if they will have to fight, but she doesn't want to make any sudden moves with her battle-axe until the captain speaks.
From his position, Hamish tries to look around the deck to see where the captain has gone, and tries to avoid to the eyes of this terrifying magical creature than stepped out of the sea ready to fight.
"Ouch", Darwin yelps as the crabs claw snips his nose. The ghostly hand releases the crab and it falls to the deck as he rubs his nose
It is then that hears the Sea King's demand. Another that bullies the little guy.
"Who are you to demand such?", he shouts but not himself, through means of his illusory magic appearing to come from a short distance away from him and any other crew.
Hamish spots the Captain standing by the wheel, his face pale.
'Kill him!' he snarls his voice slightly shaky.
The Sea King's head snaps to him and then to the crowd as he hears Darwin's question.
No one moves, everyone seems too confused or scared or dumb struck.
'I am King Solvig Kiri, ruler of these waves and you are pirates in my kingdom. Give up the Captain, and the ship, and you may live. Be glad that I will show mercy to you if you surrender.' he calls and stares up at the Captain on the bridge. 'Your decision, you turn the Captain in for justice or you all face the punishment.'
Darwin steps forward, a little shaky but resolute.
"I know not of these charges of piracy, however if we are to make an informed decision, I would hear more. What evidence is there to back up this claim?", he says, raising his voice hoping to be heard.
He looks across to Ida and then Hamish, giving them both a shrug. He has no idea really what to do, other than buy time.
"Caper, are there any other surprises? Be careful, and stay out of sight, but check the perimeter for other creatures please. Also, I don't suppose you have heard of this King Solvig Kiri?", he sends telepathically.
Ida, realizing she couldn't get to Darwin in time if needed, tries to distract from him. She moves slightly out from the railing as though she's scanning the crowd. "Captain?!?! What say you to this claim that King Solvig Kiri brings forth?" Ida speaks loudly to try to get everyone's attention. Her voice is strong and resolute as she continues to look around the ship, taking steps away from the rail and around the crowd, edging closer to Darwin while looking.
'I have a dozens of witnesses, Halfling.' Solvig replies to Darwin and then gestures at the birds and more broadly at the water surrounding the ship.
A seagull lands on the Sea King's shoulder, 'This ship has taken 3 trading ships off the coasts of the Rajani empire, the Grand Confederacy, Aurelia, and the Southern Isles in the last two months.' it squawks, and Solvig pets its head absently.
Upon Ida's call, the Captain spits over the railing and hefts a crossbow. He sights. 'I said, ******* kill him!
The saying, you could hear a pin drop is pretty apt here, except, instead of a pin drop, it's the sound of a crossbow string snapping taut, sending it's payload tearing through the air.
It rockets towards the Sea King and his pale bluish grey face is contorted by a frown. The bolt bounces off of a shimmering blue force field that materializes around him. He sighs and pulls his shield from his back. 'My patience wears thin.' He growls.
There is no fighting this King. He appears to be able to effectively destroy this ship and all it's inhabitants easily. This is not their battle, and as much as it pains her to see someone suffer, the Captain committed acts that he must now answer for to a higher authority.
Ida steps forward, her battle-axe in hand, turning to nod to Agnarr before she begins speaking. Then loudly to where the arrow came from: "Captain, you have been accused of multiple acts of piracy with witnesses of each. If you have any proof of your innocence, you should share it now. Otherwise, you will be turned over to King Solvig Kiri along with any of your crew who defend you of the charges."
Darwin takes the flag and holds one edge, then whips it so that it unfurls on the deck.
"I guess there is no mistake", he says loudly.
"Oh Captain, we repaid you with coin as requested. Quite a lot in my mind", he replies to the Captain's indignation.
"Now it is true we have enjoyed your hospitality", he continues, then looks across to King Solvig Kiri.
"I would ask for leniency for the Captain and his crew. I request they be allowed to go on their way with the solemn oath to never commit acts of piracy again, and that they commit to whatever reparation that the King deems appropriate and is within their power to give", he says loudly.
Solvig frowns at Darwin's words, 'The Captain of this vessel will face the punishment of the whole crew. The Crew will be free to go, once they arrive at shore.'
The crew grumbles and there's the beginnings of movement among them.
'Death to Tyrants!' is called from their number and the scene descends to chaos quickly.

He wanders across towards the crabs, creating an spectral hand and using it to pick one up at a distance.
He moves it across to him and gets a closer look, once again trying to convey the idea of friend to it as he does so.
