With the two physical events completed, you are ushered to the dining hall for a hot meal and beverages of your choice. The younger students whisper and point as you enter - they all know you are taking the Apex Exams, but the specifics of the trials are shrouded in secrecy. (We'll take a little break before the next event. Happy Friday everyone!)
Cyril doesn't much bother to glance at the scoreboard once everything is through. He knows his own results are damning. With his usual quiet demeanor, he makes his way to the dining hall and gathers a simple meal for himself, not much caring what it was that ended up on his plate. With his plate in one hand and a mug of hot cider in the other, Cyril starts to find a place to eat, preferably out of direct eyesight of some of the more nosy younger students. He hesitates, however, and steps off to one side until he sees a moment to catch Caelynn's attention.
"Ah, Caelynn. I was wondering if I could trouble you for a moment or two, just to have a word?"
He gestures towards an empty spot at a nearby table, where the two would be able to speak without undue ears upon them.
Pepper eyes the scores stonily, then gives an imperceptible shrug, more like she’s letting out a held breath, and turns to the dining hall. “Hey Cae–“ she starts, but sees Cyril talking to her, and cuts off. Getting her food, she smiles at the younger students, her trademark wolfish smile designed to both thrill and scare them a little. With her food piled high and a tankard balanced, she makes her way to a table and sits, not too concerned about who she’s sitting with. She glances over to where Cyril and (presumably) Caelyn are sitting, but glances away, not bothered.

ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he). Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. I love it so.
Glad to get a warm meal Caelyn will walk without stopping to acknowledge any of the younger students but will make sure to look around the room. Perhaps it was a waste of time but she always wanted to make sure she could recognize having seen a face. She will not however show much emotional response to them.
Nearing the food she brushes her hair back over her shoulder and picks out a few of the finer things available. Given her slender frame its no surprise she doesnt take a bunch of food.
Being met by Cyrils words as she moves towards a spot to sit. During their battle she could not place his emotion and she didnt know much about Cyril. Both things that made her curious enough to be more then willing to accept his invitation. Caelyn nods Ofcourse. she adds What can i help you with?
As she starts to follow Cyril to a quiet place to sit she hears Pepper start to greet her. They often had their meals together so this was unusual for both. Caelyns eyes meet with Peppers with a short and subtle facial expression. Pepper would know her well enough to be reading something along the lines of Im not sure what this is about either
Caelyn sits down across from Cyril putting her plate in front of her and takes a sip from her drink. Then looks to Cyril to waiting to hear what he wants to speak to her about.
Ashe grabs a plate of food and some water, glad that the first stage of the trials are over. He makes sure to greet some of the other students and engage in some small talk, but eventually he does look for a place to sit away from those same people. As he passes Pepper, he notices that she and Caelyn are eyeing each other as Cyril takes the latter to another table. "Looks like Cyril's made off with your friend,"Ashe hums. "Mind if I join you?"
Pepper looks up at him. “We’re friends, Ashe,” she says. She looks like she might say more, but instead shoves her tray down and makes room for him. A younger student yelps and scrambles out of the way as she slides down the bench.
She takes a drink as he settles himself. “Cyril, and Caelyn, too, see shadows everywhere. I don’t deny they exist. But nefarious plots are just as punchable as obvious ones.”

Cyril nods and sits himself across from Caelynn. His face is a mask, but the way he fiddles with the food on his plate for a long moment before speaking seems to speak to a level of discomfort and hesitance.
"I feel like I own you an apology, Caelynn." He sips from his mug for a moment, his eyes studying the plate in front of him before shifting up to meet hers. "I have been rude to you, through no fault of your own. I allowed my own misgivings to seed suspicion where it need not have existed. For that, you have my apologies."
"Shadowy conspiracies and nefarious plots? In the Academy where they train us to be shadowy and nefarious? You must be mistaken,"Ashe jokes as he pops a Brelish kettle-fried spider in his mouth. "I'm sure it's nothing to worry about... You know, you don't need to constantly terrorize our juniors. Setting an example and all that?"
As Cyril hesitates Caelyn grows more curious, studying his movements to notice he was uneasy. She loved information and most of all secrets, they are the greatest form of currency one can have in the academy. She learned that many years ago.
Sitting back she swallows a bit of food before replying Well.. thats alright. I suppose im not known for being an open book. She pauses a bit, not quite sure how best to respond. An apology wasnt something she often got. I.. forgive you. Let us move past this.
Caelyn quickly glances around to see if nobody is near them, then leans in towards Cyril. Perhaps you could share what it was that made me suspicious to you.Another short pauze falls as she tries to see how Cyril reacts before adding So i could ease your mind.To try and nudge him for a bit more information.
Her light golden brown eyes eagerly glancing at Cyril for his answer. Should Cyril try to read Caelyn; her words are sincere and she seems eager to remove any concerns.
Cyril hesitates, looking poised on the edge of speech for a moment but considering how best to word things. "It is... not something easily said. Or maybe it is and I hesitate to not want to look paranoid or a fool. I... I remember very little about my time before the Academy." He pauses to take a bite of bread, chewing thoughtfully for a moment. When he continues, his voice is softer, and there is a distinct layer of melancholy beneath the words. As if unconsciously, his hand moves to the small silver skull strung around his neck, rubbing a thumb over it slowly. "I know that my family was driven from our home, for some reason. Since then it seems as if my mind wants to cast the shadow of those people on every elf I see, no matter how improbable or unlikely." He shakes his head and refocuses on Caelynn, the faraway look in his eyes melting. "It is an attitude that I cannot allow myself to continue. I am trying to be better, so to speak, and felt this a place to start."
Caelyn listens intently to Cyrils words. Storing them in her memory.
Well, i am to young to have been involved in that. She glances around again. All of us here have lost our families one way or the other. So i suppose in a way we are akin.
For a moment she considers sharing some of her own memories but decides not to. She preffered keeping the focus on Cyril instead. She puts up a small smile Perhaps that eases your mind when you look upon me.
She eats a bit more before Caelyns eyes drift down to where Cyril was touching the silver skull around his neck. That belonged to your parents? she asks
After about 25 minutes, a female halfling in leathers strides in and approaches each of you. Andela is your trainer for getting into and out of buildings, for discovering and gaining access to locked items and rooms, and finding out clues from the surroundings.
"Alright, lovelies, time for your Retrieval assessment!" she says with excitement. "Follow me, please."
She leads you to the mock town - a collection of buildings where you conduct training. "This is a team event, but still a competition! You will be timed to see who can retrieve the bone scroll case from your respective target buildings in the least amount of time. Bonus points awarded if you are not detected and do not have to smash anything... So - teams! Based on your standing in these classes to date, Kira and Ashe are the top two students and will be team leads. As you have the same score, we'll roll the die and let fate decide who gets the first pick!" She hands Ashe and Kira each a 6-sided die.
(Please roll a d6 and indicate your first pick for your team. then we'll continue back and forth until we have two teams of three players each. Any questions on the team pick process?)
Pepper immediately begins disrobing, in the middle of everyone, and then starts the process of taking her chainmail off. “Noisy,” she announces to nobody in particular.
