Shrutsena attempts to wedge his staff at an angle between the ground and bluff face and stretches his oilskin over it to make a makeshift tent and crawls inside.
"Well, a rough night of it to be sure..." Jade mutters as two of her companions immediately prepare to go to sleep. She sighs and glances to the only one awake. "Wake me for second watch then. I'll just pick which of them to get up for third watch." She grins and moves to find as comfortable of a place to lay down at as she can manage, then pulls her waterproof cloak over her and tries to sleep.
Our heroes just tough it out in the summer drizzle. After some cold joyless rations they take turns being awake, but otherwise watch and rest are similar. At least the rainskins are pretty good. It is during Jade's watch, after actual sunset, when the bog apes come.
Luckily there is a bit of glow from the gibbous moon behind the clouds, and whatever these things are must not be too strategic. Two hulking shapes, bugbear-tall but orc-stout, no-neck goons climb smoothly from the mire. They instantly notice being watched, and split right and left to cut off the path.
Target number is 14. The bog apes are angled 20 feet to either side, the shore is 20 feet ahead and the bluff is right at your back. Jade can act then we'll see what happens...

Jade's arrow pierces the ape to the right (south). The two bog apes close in as the boys wake up. The pierced one punches Jade, doing 4 damage. Its fellow to the west makes a grab for Vrawl, who easily rolls out of the way. Gurag, Shrutsena, and Vrawl are up, then Jade again
(though post in whatever order and we can work out how it occurs)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Vrawl rolls to his feet. Turning to face the ape that just tried to knock his head off, Vrawl reachs out with his magic. "Earth father protect your son."
Vrawl cast wild growth on the plants around and under the ape, trying to entangle it.
Wild growth (Easy roll cause it's a nature spell): 8
If the spell works Jade will heal 1 hp, and she is still chosen.
Bleary-eyed, Gurag struggles to his feet, grabbing the nearest weapon, his spear. "What do they want?" he says then, seeing Vrawl struggle, adds, "What did you do to piss off the Earth father?"
He lifts up his shield and steps forward, defending the group and swinging at one of the apes.
Gurag has poked the western bog ape, the one that failed to grab Vrawl and Vrawl could not get the plants to grab in return. Shrutsena's spell worked, the BAs have enough mind to trap, so the southern one (nearest Jade) is stunned - she attacks with advantage. And is up next

((wild growth might not be what you want anyway, it isn't really an entangle thing. we should work out a spell more like what you want and change it out. but yeah, Vrawl's casting luck has been abnormally bad))
Bad luck, Jade's rapier deflects off the stunned bog ape. It spends its turn shaking off the mind trap, and will be better next time. The ape to the west lunges at Gurag, no pleased to be speared last time. 23...it decides to try a grab and connects forcefully. 4 damage, and Gurag needs to make a STR save or be grappled!
Gurag pushes off the ape's attempt at a hug, suffering damage but no restraint. Shrutsena turns from confusing the southern ape to burning the western one. Gurag and Vrawl are near the western one, Jade near the southern. Those 3 can go, normal conditions.

Gurag nods. "It's been a day. Let's settle in. I'll take the first watch."
Shrutsena attempts to wedge his staff at an angle between the ground and bluff face and stretches his oilskin over it to make a makeshift tent and crawls inside.
Vrawl wraps himself in his cloak, and leans against a tree. Benefit of fur, you don't get cold.
