“Let’s go speak to the survivors on the ship, as well as the captain… perhaps he had a better angle on the events and could shed light on what’s going on.” Malirys also wonders if they have cocktails with little umbrellas in them, that previous one wasn’t half bad.
You all gather onto the life-boat after the treasure is dished out and begin to make your way to the larger boat. Korgen and Auraani each grab and oar and begin to row, making easy and fairly quick work. The short travel to the boat is smooth as the earthquake has finished. It takes you about 20 minutes to row and get onto the top deck of the ship. Several refugees from the village are huddled on the deck of the ship, while the crew tends to the vessel.
The crew, compared to the refugees are easy enough to spot. A burly, hairy man is playing a card game with some of the refugees. A half-orc gazes out at the horizon, as she smiles at a dolphin leaping out of the water. A young male elf with pale-green skin and watery eyes is speaking to a female dwarf with a thick, knotted beard at the ship’s helm. A handsome, muscle-bound man is flirting with one of the refugees. The man you know as the captain is currently nowhere to be seen.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Malirys walks about noticing the strange fact that they act as if nothing major went down! Playing cards and hanging out!?!? Something is off, and she investigates vigorously to try to perceive any clues on people’s faces, strange happenstance out of the corner of her eye, etc…
8 Perception for happenstance and strange behavior
11 investigation to stare intently at people facial expressions
The actions of the crew do not seem too odd to you as they are not the ones who went through this attack. As far as the refugees are concerned, they appear acting in the way you would expect someone to act after going through this event.
Ant;
You hear various accounts from different perspectives. One lady explaining how the creatures grabbed her husband and dragged him into the water. Another, slightly older lady explains how she tried grabbing some important family heirlooms but left her necklace.
Ant smiles "Indeed, why I have it right here....One of the fish people had it on them when I....err....well took care of it with some others on the beach." Ant takes the necklace out and hands it to the lady
The lady grabs the necklace and holds it in her hand for a moment, tears forming under her eyes and making their way down her cheek. "Thank you so much... I don't know how to repay you..." She grabs your hand and thanks you over and over again.
Everyone;
Before you all can do anything further you all see a man walk out of a room of the ship. Korgen and Auraani, you recognize this as the man who introduced himself as the captain. He stands up nice and tall and begins to address the group. "The captain would like to see you 4 in the chambers at once." He begins to point to Korgen, Auraani, Any and Malirys. "Please follow me."
Ant smiles “Thanks is good enough. If we ever cross paths again perhaps shelter from a storm or a meal will be enough” Hears his name and heads with the others to see the captain
The man makes his way down from the top deck where he was standing and leads you all into a room in the back of the ship. He opens and holds the door open for you all so you can enter. Upon first looks, it appears to be the captains quarters. A long table rests in the middle of a very intricate looking area rug, with a desk that rests along the southern wall. A small folding wall separates this room from another part of the room.
A tabaxi is hunched over a wide table, puzzling over a map pinned to its surface by a half dozen knives and daggers. Several golden rings glisten on her paws as she traces potential paths through the ocean. She glances up at you with her emerald eyes as you open the door, and her feline face spreads into a sharp-toothed smile that is equal parts cheerful and unsettling.
“Ah, welcome,” she purrs. “You are some of the folks from the pretty village, yes? Welcome aboard Wavechaser. We have much to discuss about the sinking isle—and the treasure we can find if we return.”
“Return?! Don’t you have to start somewhere to return to it!”
malirys wonders if they are pirates or merchants, if they fly their own flag of have loyalties to some patron unmentioned.
”treasure is lovely, but only in that wealth is a multiplier for power… so i wonder… what interest do you two have for power?”
her drow blood isn’t happy being on the ocean, her instinct is to be on land, underground even… she wonders how long it took the Tabaxi to get comfortable being atop water…
The Tabaxi, seeing one of the members of the group bring up money let's out a big grin, and in a delightful tone, purposely ignoring the original question says, "Yes my friend, money, lots of it.. It could be ours but...." Then her tone get's a little more monotone, "The people, I heard that there were so many lost to the sea... It would be a shame to just leave them there with no chance of help.. I would help, but I can't afford to offer my people."

“What happened to the Captain?” Korgen asks to no one in particular

Korgen;
As you ask this, you seem to notice that everyone, at the current moment, seems to be too focused on whatever they are doing to notice your question.

Ant stops at the woman "Excuse mam but what does this necklace look like?"
Ant;
The lady turns towards you and begins to describe it. "It has a braided string and a shark tooth hanging from it. Did you happen to see it?"

Korgen eyes the man suspiciously. “Talkin’ about himself in the third person like some sort of weirdo…” but he still follows
