That... looked worse than the attack of the shadovar. As scary as shadovar troops were, they at least looked alive, as in "potentially killable". What they had here was definitely already dead and (judging by the look of the people around) quite powerful too. It was a clear case of banditry and robbery, but Irmiel was not sure she was ready to die for some unknown books. And in any case, first, some information was needed.
She risked running to the woman, hiding in the niche to the right (I think Irmiel can make it to the niche with "movement" only?). There, just in case, she first summoned the Mage Armor.
"What is going on? Where are the wizards of the Candlekeep? Is anyone coming?"These were the three most urgent questions she wanted to hear the answers to.

The woman glances to Irmiel while clutching a scorching burn on her side. “They were lured away. The rest of us are here. Who are you!? Doesn’t matter. You must stop them from taking the books. The dragon is on our side, it will help.”
The gnome male rushes towards the Tiefling undead...but the dragonborn had been waiting. With a step forward, his massive two handed sword swings out, clearly 15 feet too short from reaching....except that a shadowy form of the blade reaches out across the space and slashes into the Gnome man...
Attack: 29 Damage: 20 + 6
The gnome takes the slash with surprise, clutching what appears to be black energy eating away at his stomach, but casts a spell at the Tiefling all the same. The Tiefling raises an absent hand, magic lashing out at the gnome as he casts his spell, the gnome responding with his own magic. The clash of magics spark and fly sending blue sparks into the air, and then a sphere around the Tiefling appears and begins to close in, seemingly sucking the Tiefling into an infinitely small center, but the Tiefling shrugs off the energy and more magical energy bursts outwards like broken chunks of glass spraying the area.
"Of course, another impossibly powerful enemy," Kris whispers with note of petulance entering her voice. "Are these Netherese, or something else? Well, the one with the magical shadow sword clearly isn't going to let us get anywhere near the others. At least, not head on. I think we should try to come around from the far side. What do you say?" She looks to the others for confirmation before running off on her own.

Kris circles around, passing another passage that leads towards the central chamber, and turns the last corner seeing a hallway that stretches into the darkness ahead. Books line the outer wall. Another hallway, presumably leading towards the center is also on the left. (presuming you dash, you move 60 feet, and you're now up near the human woman on the left).
The shadowy figure waves it's hands and a blast of dark lightning crashes out from it and strikes the dragon. Attack: 17 Damage: 30
A dark crackling line of lightning seems to form between the shadowy creature and the dragon, black lines leaping off the sustained link. The ghostly dragon begins spasming in pain.
The undead gnome looks at a book, tosses it to the floor, looks at another, tosses it to the floor.
The ghost dragon opens it's maw and a crash like the sound of the entire building coming down booms throughout the complex as a dark bolt of energy that hits both the shadowy form and the undead tiefling. It also slams right into the books and library but seems to have no effect on the inanimate objects.
Tiefling save: 9 vs DC 21. Shadowy form save : 18 vs DC 21. 72 save for half.
With these titanic displays of energy, the group wonders what they could possibly do here. The tiefling creature seems immersed in the killing bolt and drops to a knee for a moment. It glances back for a moment but then continues searching the shelving before it.
Llwyd and Sistri's turns!
(I've taken the liberty to move Sistri assume she double moves, but please of course do as you wish, and I'll adjust, just showing you where a double move would get you on the map....)
Sistri follows alongside Kris (using Dash as her Action), her longsword drawn and shield at the ready. "Stay close Kris, these enemies look really powerful," she says after watching the strange effect from the shadowy creature and the dragon's massive attack.
If there was a word Llwyd could use to describe everything happening at the library beyond the Emerald Doors it was chaos. He was surprised by spectral figure of a dragon, although not half as much as by its sheer power. But above that, he was worried by the fact that even after its attack the undead and the shadowy figure remained standing. A direct confrontation seemed of little wisdom for their group, but if damage alone didn’t stop the Shadovar looking individual then there was something for them to do.
With that in mind the druid advances until he was sixty feet from the black robbed enemy. With totem in hand, he raised his arm and whispered unintelligible words. Arcane words, carrying power and intent. The Satyr’s ashen eyes flashed emerald-green as his mind centered, unleashing the Hold Person spell upon the tenebrous invader.
He did not even wait to see if his magic took effect. Instead he retreated behind the walls from where just advanced. Covered, he hoped, the enemy could not reach him and should the magic work then it would be that much harder for the Netherese to free himself.
“Try to paralyze the one at the center!”He shouted from his hopefully total cover. The undead should become easier to deal with if they managed as much.
Notes: Llwyd moves 60ft from the Shadowy figure and casts Hold Person on it (Wisdom Save 15) then moves back behind the walls, trying to get full cover.

Shadowy figure save vs DC15 : 29
Llwyd bravely moves out of cover, unleashing a spell at the shadowy figure, and then quickly moves back behind cover. Unsure if his spell took effect, at least flinging some magic into the fray would hopefully assist their allies. For all others, the central figure appears to continue to move.
With Sistri running after Kris, Llwyd finds himself alone with his back to the stone wall.
Three magical bolts fly from the human male's hands, but the shadowy form raises a hand and they all splash against a magical field with no effect. The human woman near Kris and Sistri glances back to see them. She looks badly injured...almost as if she'd been beaten up, with blood dribbling from her lip. Her look of pure confusion at seeing the two turns to cautious, "Friend or foe?!" she says sharply, holding a hand aloft that flares with fire.
The dragonkin undead advances on the gnome once more, swinging his blade from distance, a shadowy version of it slashing towards the gnome. Attack on gnome: 19 Damage: 25 + 9. Attack on gnome: 21 Damage: 22 + 8.
The gnome feebly raises a hand up to fend off the shadowy blade, and a magical field deflects the blows, just missing him. He breathes a sigh of relief.
The dwarf near Irmiel, who is badly burned but still standing steps around the corner and raises his hands....and points at the central figure...a thin green ray blasting out at the creature. But rather than hurting him, the green ray seems to fizzle in the air before the enemy and evaporates harmlessly. The dwarf hisses and steps back behind cover. "He's got an absorption rod or something stopping direct magic...."
The elf male next to the dwarf nods and turns the corner and casts a spell. Nothing apparently happens, but the undead Gnome reaches for another book and his hand hits some invisible shield. The undead gnome hisses.

"Would be nice to know what is it specifically," slowly answered Irmiel thinking. "There are only two of them fighting but they easily fight a dragon! What books do you keep there that are worth all that hurting?!"
Nevertheless, she tried her luck in an attack as well. Irmiel could not exactly paralyze someone, but there were other ways to affect monsters. She stepped out to cast her spell and dived back afterwards.

Irmiel steps out and magic strikes out at the shadowy creature. DC 15 Int Save: 17 2nd DC 15 Int Save: 16
A whispy shadowy whip slams out at the creature. It strikes it but slides off the shadows around it without effect...but at the same time a dual whip strikes a dual entity, and in that case two, the whip slips from the shadows without effect. The moment is gone and the two realities slip into one once more.
The tiefling pulls a book off the shelf casually opens the book up, and begins flipping through a few pages. The gnome near him meanwhile, casts a spell. Once again the tiefling swats in his direction, trying to disrupt his magic, but the Gnome once again battles with his own counter magic. Sparks of yellow and green spray about the area as the magic battles, and then the tieflings bag seems to try and leap from the Tieflings shoulder.
Gnome check : 20 vs Tiefling strength : 15
The backpack flies from the tieflings back suddenly, flying right past the gnome and then is "tossed" down the hallway to his right. It flies past the woman and topples down the stairs landing right at Sistri and Kris' feet. The woman who is holding her magic at them says, "Don't you dare....."
"Aren't there more guards?"Kris whispers as they rush forward.
She halts as the human woman turns on them. "Friends!"Kris calls to the woman. "Do we look like undead or shadows? We want to help stop the invaders! Don't be rash. Obviously we want to keep the bag away from them. I'm going to pick it up." She uses her rapier's tip to snag the bag and lift it off of the ground.
Kris rushes forward with the bag, heading up the hallway. There is a door on her left, or up ahead the hallway splits to the left or right. She reaches the split in the hallway. To the right it leads off into darkness. It does so to the left as well, however by now she is relying on only the light from behind her, as these hallways are unlit. It is too dark for her to see more than ten feet in each direction.
The shadowy form in the center still has a crackling dark lightning connection to the dragon, snapping and pulling at the creatures life force... 43 damage. It also glances back sharply as the bag is tossed away, and hisses, but maintains its position.
The ghost dragon, writhing in pain from the bolt, sinks into the floor vanishing from site. The bolt connecting them disperses with a snap. Then it's re-emerges from the floor and it's ghostly jaws try to close on the shadowy form. Attack: 12 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll.
The dwarf and elf both nod and hurl fire at the shadowy figure. Attack: 14 Damage: 18. Attack: 20 Damage: 23
Sistri nods to the woman as well, "Yes, friends! We'll do what we can to help." She then follows close after Kris, into the increasingly dimly lit passage. "I can grab a torch." She reaches into her pack and tries to quickly grab a torch and light it. As she works at that she speaks softly to Kris. "I'm not sure what help we'll be against these enemies. Perhaps saving what's in that bag will help. Maybe try to circle back and see if we can help somehow?"
Sistri rushes after Kris into the dark hallways, pulling out a torch to light their way, as more lightning and magic crackle from down the hall behind them.

The sounds of battle echoed through the chamber and Llwyd knew his spell had failed. Maybe I shouldn’t have used Barkskin. Combining his movement and the cover the extra protection the extra protection had prove itself unnecessary. Worse yet, it had consumed the energy he could have better used in a new attempt at constraining the shadowy figure. Too late for regret, he said to himself considering his options. He could attempt to charm the enemy, but the librarians all seemed hurt. When he heard the dwarf close to Irmiel mention that the Shadovar was using something to stop direct magic the Satyr decided it was better to conserve his energies for healing.
He very much doubted that using a cantrip against the one clad in black would make any difference and considering the breath of the ghost dragon, to advance into melee was to invite friendly fire. If the Avowed had no way to immobilize the Netherese then it was better to weaken the pack. Thinking so the druid runs towards Kris and Sistri. Dash, in fact.
“I’ll try to pull the Tiefling away from the others.” He says reaching his two allies. If he did so, he could attempt to fight with Wild Shape. The Dragonborn was worrying, but he didn’t see much more option. “Think you can flank it and beat it down?”
