"And we definitely don't want to face the death penalty,"Kris adds to the discussion. "She said to look either inside the city, or out here at the Tusk and Spear, though the folks out here are 'a little sketch'." Kris ponders that turn of phrase for a moment. "That sounds exciting! Let's look at the Tusk and Spear."
“So you spend materials just to change the form?” He asked Irmiel with genuine curiosity. It was really different from the way he called a fey spirit. “And I think so.”He said, pondering upon her question. “Although not a spell, my transformations are technically magic.” Besides he could only assume the form of a beast for two hours. Four, if one where to consider his ability to do so between respites. It was something he would rather keep for battle, specially in such a hostile city. “That said, I can’t exactly disguise myself with just a hood over the horns.” He pointed to his hooved feet.“It may be a good idea for me to cover them and follow you from a distance while you negotiate.”
He nodded towards Kris, agreeing with his idea of heading towards the Tusk and Spear. Call it instinct or intuition, but Llwyd didn’t want to venture in that city if he could avoid. Not to mention the faster they moved the better for their mission.
“Should I enhance your ability to negotiate again?” He asked Sistri, hoping she remembered when he did that back at Candlekeep. “Oh, yeah, no magic.” He remembered before she could answer. “Oak Father damn it. I am really starting to dislike this place.”
The group, slowly realizing the implications of the rules of this place wander into the Tusk and Spear. You find a sprawling tavern with split level floors, an upper balcony, and several additions that have clearly been built on over the years. It looks like a bunch of houses that were shoved together badly and had all the inner walls knocked down. Dripping from the water you step onto the muddy wooden plank floors and look around the place. There is a human bard in one corner strumming a lute rather lazily, two games of cards occurring at two tables, and otherwise what looks like a lot of working folk getting in out of the rain for some lunch. You see farm hands, wood workers, blacksmiths and other laborers all hard at work. Sprinkled among these folk are what look like caravaneers, caravan guards, and merchants hard at 'work' making deals or watching over things carefully. You also notice a table of those red plume town guards, and another table of what look more like soldiers. The room smells of roast meat and stale beer. You all find a table to sit down at. Llwyd, as now seems usual here, draws a number of looks. A pretty, young human girl with brown hair and a smock smeared with stains walks up, a smile on her face. She curtsies specifically to Llwyd with a dimpled smile. "Hello there. What can I get for you? We have roast beef today, with gravy and mashed potatoes and some of our lovely sour potato bread."

Sistri is about to accept Llwyd's offer of magic, but then is relieved as he remembers the prohibitions. "I am not sure I understand all the rules, so best to play it safe." She goes along with the others to the Tusk and Spear. Hopefully they can find a guide there.
As the human girl asks about an order, she replies, "I could take a small portion of the roast, thank you. And perhaps an ale." She pauses to let everyone get a chance to order. But before the girl leaves she adds, "We were all hoping to find a guide for the forest. Do you know of anyone we might speak to that you could recommend?"
Irmiel, not removing her hood, made an order (potato bread sounded lovely) and quietly took her place at the table, studying the room from under her cover. Sure, all eyes were glued to Llwyd, but it's better not to tempt fate at least until the situation is very clear.
(Kris, or anyone else, feel free to roll an Insight check instead of Perception, if you want to get a sense of people in the room.)
The girl looks at Sistri with big eyes, "Oh..yeah. See, I don't really know all that much about forest folk, but, tell you what, I can ask Lance. He's the owner here, he's in the back right now. I'll let him know, he'll be able to give you the run down on the lot for sure!"
She hustles off and heads through a door into the kitchen. A few moments later she comes back out with a tall, bulky looking human, older with grey hair and that aged dark look about his eyes. She points at the group and then he nods, sends her off, and comes stalking over until his large frame is looming over the table. In a surprisingly smooth nasaly voice he pipes up, "Dalia said you'all are lookin for a guide. M'name is Lance. I run this place." He glances at Llwyd and a small furrow appears, then he glances at the rest of the group...his face thoughtful. After a moment he grabs a chair from a nearby table, spins it around, and straddles it. The wooden furniture is strong, but creaks a bit under his weight. "Yeah, seems to make sense you'd wanna stay out of the city. Only reason to look for a guide 'ere. I'll help ya how I can. And you remember to tell people bout the Tusk, got it? So....who do we 'ave tonight."
He begins working his way around the room.
"Over there we got Anna Tolsday." He head motions to a slim woman wearing leathers and gambling at a table with a bunch of men. "She's a right racist and would probably lead you all to your deaths on purpose." He keeps scanning, motioning to a man in a corner, wearing a hood...indoors...and in a quiet conversation with a merchant. "That one...his name is Ezhia, and I wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole. Heard he's in the slave trade, truth be told. Probably knows the forest like da back of his hand though. He lives somewhere out there." Looking around he motions to a man sitting at the bar by himself eating a bowl of stew, "Oh...that there is Stallock. He grew up on a ranch that edges the woods. He knows the northern woods probably as well as most. Keeps to 'imself, but could be ok." Glancing about he motions to the four soldiers, "That over there is Task, Lace, Marla, and Lute. Them's a squad outta Oak Regiment. That part of the army patrols the northern forests. That crew probably knows the forest right good. Who knows if they're on leave or not. Don't keep up on the army news." Then he motions to another man, this one an elf sitting at a bar talking to a merchant looking fellow. "That one there is Ey'sal. He often takes lead caravan guard jobs for caravans heading through the forest. Plus, he's obviously an elf. He might be a fine choice as well, though...I suspect he might be expensive. Also, he knows the roads, not sure how much he knows the woods, you know?" Then he looks at you all meaningfully, "There's more choice in the city, but....Hillsfar certainly ain't for everyone. If you do head into town, the tavern called the Diamond in the Dung will treat ya'll fairly."
With that he nods, stands up, and heads back to the kitchen.

"Thank you so much!"Kris calls politely after Lance. Never let a kind gesture go unacknowledged. "Wow, that was an extremely helpful beginning."
"Well, racists and slavers aside, we have a couple of choices. Stallock, the rancher, is an unknown but could be promising. Then there's the military squad of Task, Lace, Marla, and Lute. I wonder if they work independently--not sure we can afford four guides. For that matter, Ey'sal might be more than we can afford."
While Kris is unaccustomed to dealing with matters of money, in her numerous 'aventuring escapades she had grown accustomed to having to pay directly for things. For example, she knows that the food they're drinking costs money. And their guide will expect to be paid as well. But, how much? "So..." she asks uncertainly. "What can we afford?"
Irmiel, that was also wearing the hood indoors, was glad that her dresscode was not completely out of fashion here. She listened intently but in the best traditions of mysterious adventurers was silent, only allowing the curious eyes to see her glasses, flashing from under the hood. "I have another question,"(once Lance left, she joined the discussion) "if we have "the army patrolling the northern forests" - what happens if we run into them? In the forest, I mean? Are we even allowed there? It feels like we need to talk to all three if only to learn about the prices and rules."

Sistri happily thanks the young girl when she offers to alert the owner to their need for a guide. She listens attentively to Lance as he describes those here in the tavern that they potentially might employ. "We will of course mention the Tusk and Spear to anyone we meet. Thank you very much."
She then turns to speak with the group. "I certainly do not have unlimited gold to pay someone. I guess we'll have to see. Irmiel is right that perhaps we need to talk to a couple of folks to get a feel for rates. I kind of feel like we should give Stallock a try."
Kris rummages through her coin purse. She whispers to avoid drawing attention. "Let's see... I have... one hundred twenty four gold pieces. Minus the cost of the food."
Kris looks around, but seems to be having troubles focusing, that said, a handsome man at the bar catches her eye. He seems to be looking right at her, and gives her a suggestive wink. He has a very charming face, with a stubble beard and piercing green eyes...and what looks like the most friendly smile on his face. He starts walking towards her, looking at her in the face, a warm grin as if greeting an old friend. She flushes slightly as he strides right up to her, his arms opening for a generous hug...she opens her arms to accept...and....he walks right past her and hugs another woman who has just entered the bar. The two are obviously very well acquainted friends and arm in arm, walk back to his spot at the bar laughing and smiling. She glances about hoping no one noticed but....the entire table is grinning.
Sistri and Llwyd meanwhile look about the room, and assess Lance, and figure he's on the level. The cloaked figure named Eshia does turn towards the room once and they see the a face of a predator. The soldiers appear to be hardened warriors, but...are having a lot of fun hanging out together and seem like the sort of people you'd like to get to know. In contrast, Ey'sal, the caravan guard lead, looks...serious and boring....but quite adept. Stallock silently eats a chunk of bread, dipping it into some gravy, though his eyes do scan the room, passing over the group more than once. He looks like a difficult person to get to know, though he's armed and the weapons look well used. Anna spots Llwyd and makes a joke at her table game, and the whole table laughs uproariously, taking surreptitious glances at Llwyd with sharp grins on their faces.

Kris flushes a bright shade of red, feeling her cheeks burn hot enough to heat the room. Her temperature goes up further when Anna's table seems to make a joke at Llwyd's expense. "Clearly, we shouldn't expect class or manners in this establishment! Don't even worry about it Llwyd. Their ignorance will never let them appreciate all the wonderful things the world has to offer."
"Let's just ask that elf or that human guy about the prices for now, shall we?"By "we" Irmiel meant Kris and Sistri, of course. "I have a hundred gold but we would need to eat something too, and maybe buy some... I don't know, tents? Let's just ask first."
The warmth of the heath was gentle like the fingers of a lover as they left the rainy outsides. The tavern was simple and muddy, far from impressive in comparison to the place they stayed in back at Suzail, but nothing offensive. The same could not be said of the people. Some trowed him distrustful eyes, but the satyr didn’t mind. Provocation and intimidation are nothing but displays of fear. The beast sure of its strength is the most silent.
As the barmaid appeared he remained in silence, simply answering her smile with one of his own not sure if she was genuinely friendly or skilled on her trade. Either way, he studied the room as they awaited for the master of the place. Lance’s words seemed to confirm every judgement Llwyd had made. He was surprised by Kris’s ire on what looked like some kind of mockery directed to him.
“Thank for worrying, Kris, and for feeling angry for me, but they are worth so little that even your anger is more than what they deserve.” He said with serenity, trying to pat her head gently. Once again, he put a little bit too much strength on the gesture. “While dogs bark the wolf hunts silently. And we could speak with the guards too. They look good to have in a fight, friendly and if we meet more of the army patrolling the forests, they are likely to keep us out of any trouble. The better option after they, I would say, is Stallock. Unless Ey’sal have some knowledge Lance didn’t know about.” He then looks at Sistri, then Kris. “You may also want to look on the Diamond. Me and Irmiel could stay behind.”

"Okay. Right. I'll talk to Stallock." Kris approaches the human man eating a bowl of soup. "Good day,"she says, sliding into a seat near him. "I don't mean to interrupt your meal, but I was told you are employable as a guide for this region. Specifically, my companions and I are interested in the woods and the ruins of Myth Drannor. Are you interested in a job?"
Stallock looks up at Kris. His eyes sparkle with curiosity as he listens to her. "Um, yes. I suppose I am. I should tell you, I'm not officially licensed as a guide, so any deal would need to be under the table. But...I can give you a bit of a discount. I think the city regulates the cost of guides to 30 gold per day. I'd be willing to do it for 20 gold per day. If you need uh...a sales pitch, that's not really my thing, but I've grown up round here, and have been to the ruins. It's...not a nice place, but I can get you there. It'll probably be a couple weeks to get in and out...so maybe 400 gold total I'd say. Umm, 50 up front."
Sistri took the opportunity to head over to the four soldiers. They all look up, still smiling from some recent jest. She asks them about being a guide.
The one named Lute strokes his chin, "Well, we all gotz a month leave to work wit. But, I think you got to be licensed. Maybe we call it a military excursion instead of guiding ya? But, you want all four o' us? I mean, 15 gold a day would be a good pay rate, right boys and lady? So, that'd be 60 gold fer us all. We been all over the forest. The old elven court....nasty place that...the ruined cities and forts. We even seen the Vault of Unquenched Vengeance. But...not all places are suitable fer small groups. And...there'd be all sorts of unspeakable beasts and creatures out there, not the least o' which is a big ol' mean green dragon and her kids." The other seem to nod in agreement and look to see Sistri's response.
Sistri nods to the group of soldiers. "It seems a fair offer. Especially given your knowledge." She sighs slightly, looking a bit disappointed. "I'm not sure we anticipated having four guides though." Again pausing she finally adds, "I will have to speak with my companions on this. I do appreciate your time."
Sistri returns to the table, relaying the price they mentioned. "It sounds too much for us. They seemed very knowledgeable though." She then waits to hear what Kris has to say about Stallock.
Kris lays it out straight for the party. "400 gold total, 50 gold up front, if we want Stallock. If what he says is true, the city regulates it at 30 gold per day, so this is cheeaper than the official rates."

Rabbit Sebrica, Sorcerer || Skarai, Monk || Lokilia Vaelphin, Druid || Liivi Orav, Barbarian || Vanizi, Warlock || Britari / Halila Talgeta / Jesa Gumovi || Neital Rhessil, Wizard
Iromae Quinaea, Cleric || Roxana Raincrest, Rogue || Meira Dheran, Rogue || Qirynna Thadri, Wizard || Crisaryn Melkial, Sorcerer
Kris lays it out straight for the party. "400 gold total, 50 gold up front, if we want Stallock. If what he says is true, the city regulates it at 30 gold per day, so this is cheeaper than the official rates."
