“We should write about the Zora and Kokiri, and the items this Ganondorf is collecting. And in return ask for information of which we do not already know”, he says then gives a small shrug, thinking of what else they could put. “We could ask if there is anything we can do to help? Something within the capability of a small group”.
”We should be careful about writing too much about ourselves and our travel plans though, there is a risk of this letter falling into the wrong hands”, he adds.
The girl and the Fairy take the food and look grateful. She looks at the spare tent though like she has no idea what to do with it, then scans the village and the ruins. It becomes evident she's been sleeping here among the burned bodies and destroyed homes.
"Sorry." She says. "I mean, that's what they call me, anyway. And this is Kora."
While still conversing with Sorry and Kora "Despite the circumstances, it's a pleasure to meet you two." Ro then took a brief moment to teach Sorry and Kora how to set up and use the two-person tent. As he did so, Ro used minor illusion to conjure an illusory image of the tent being pitched up step by step.
Afterwards, Ro looked at the kokiri girl once more. Her village was destroyed and her community was murdered. Sorry was too fitting of a name...
The elf-dwarf looked at the girl and fairy with a deep sympathy. Ro then undid a few straps off his armor, causing his quarterstaff of warning and dagger to come loose. He pulled out a small shield he had purchased back in Riverwood and gave all three items to the girl. "These are for protection but should danger ever find you, you're best option is to run." With the girl's consent, Ro helped her equip the gear.
While conversing with the band about next steps Ro acknowledges Rum's suggestions and begins to draft a small letter. As the letter has to be small enough for Prim to carry, Ro writes in shorthand. The elf-dwarf shares his draft with the group and asks, "Anything else?"
Ro's letter reads:
Zora Domain and Kokiri Village decimated. Ganondorf has Zora and Kokiri sacred stones, likely Goron's too. False Knight is coming with small band. How is Hyrule Castle situation? Seeking advise on how to best assist. Write response and give to bird.
Rum waits as Ro speaks with Sorry and Kora, and the feelings of haste start to dampen inside him. He looks about once again at where he was, and rather than concentrating on potential danger, really focusses on the state of the village.
He starts to quietly and reverently gather the bodies of the fallen, and unless told to stop by Sorry, lays them in a line on the edge of the village.
Once done, he wanders over to Sorry. “I need to ask Miss Sorry, how do you honour your dead here?”.
Since Sorry had stopped playing her ocarina, Tuto had trouble looking the girl in her eyes. He wanted to play something. But it didn't feel right. Everything is so tense. He's faced creatures twice his size alone, why was he scared now. With a low grunt, Tuto clenched his fists and walked to Ro. He tapped on the elf-dwarfs shoulder, then tapped on his own head, gesturing for the telepathy spell.
"I would...like to play a song....for her....if she wants..."
Ro felt Tuto tap on his shoulder and give a rough signal asking to cast the Detect Thoughts spell. The elf-dwarf hesitated for a moment. The spell was a bit of a drain on his magical resources, and he wasn't sure what else the band would face throughout the day. However, Tuto may have had something vital to add to the current situation. Ro incanted the aforementioned spell and was caught off guard with Tuto's request. Alas, the mood was dim and mayhaps music would cheer up Sorry and Kora. She was playing on her own ocarina before the band found her after all. Ro first turned to Tuto, "While I have the spell up, let me know if there's anything you think we should add to the letter."
The elf-dwarf then turned back to Sorry after she responded to Rum and Greko, "My friend here is an accomplished bard. To him, music is a wonderful thing and he'd like to share it with you if that's alright."
After communicating Tuto's thoughts, Ro shifted his attention back to his letter. Prim descended from the skies and perched on the elf-dwarf's shoulder, ready to receive the letter once Ro had finished.
(After casting the spell, Ro will use his Pearl of Power to gain back the spent spell slot. Also, last call for any other suggestions for what should be put in the letter.)
"Wait," Oten says. He goes still with focus and his eyes flicker erratically for a few seconds before he returns to normal. "Good, I found what I was looking for." He pulls out a small metal contraption which he opens with a few twists and clicks like a puzzle box. A compartment on the back of his hand opens up and he pulls out series of small, delicate tools and gets to work on the box. Soon enough, he carefully pries up a small flexible lattice of metal wire with a button at its center.
"Here," Oten walks over to Ro and lays the lattice across the bottom of the letter, where it quickly adheres. Holding his metallic face close, he presses the tiny button and speaks in a voice not his own, "My progeny approaches."The voice sounds like that of an old, sour man. Oten then presses the button again, inserts a small pick in the side, and twists. Sliding the pick back into his hand, he presses the button one final time, and his message plays back. Satisfied, he rolls the letter up, lattice, button, and all, and hands it back to Ro.
"If the letter makes it into the hands of King Hylia or any of his close retainers, they'll recognize the device and the voice, and it will serve as verification that we are indeed allies on our way to assist. I doubt, however, that Ganondorf would understand the significance, if he did end up with the letter" Oten explains.
Ro watched as Oten constructed the metal wire-mesh with great interest. "Fascinating," Ro said, "I did not know you were skilled in crafts. Who's voice was that in?"
As Ro asked his question, he finished his letter by adding a final sentence. The elf-dwarf took some twine from his pouch and secured the letter to the back of Prim. Ro telepathically transferred an order to his familiar, specifying the destination as Hyrule Castle and the receiver as anyone from his family, preferably his parents. He also cautioned Prim to keep a safe distance away from Ganondorf's forces.
Receiving her orders, Prim soared into the air off into the direction of Hyrule Castle.
How's family, stay safe.
(Attached to the bottom of the message is the steel-wire lattice that Oten made.)
"Ahh, that would be my creator's voice. Chenwell. Though most have not heard of him, he provided advanced weapons to Hyrule during a time of great need. As a result, he is well-known by the upper-echelons. It was also by that feat that he came to be recognized by the Childlike Empress. And that is why if the king hears that message he will know why we come." As for what I do, am not sure it falls accurately under the categorization of 'crafts.'"
The girl watches as Ro shows her how to set the tent up and tear it down, and nods. She's solemn and disconnected while he does this. She looks at the shield, the quarterstaff, and the dagger, then hands them back to Ro.
"I'm sor...I can't." She says. "I wouldn't know how to use it even if I kept it."
When the Tabaxi asks his question, she looks around, at the few bodies still literring the ground, at the burned and broken. She shrugs.
"I buried some of them, at first, in the woods beneath the trees where their bodies could nourish the forest but...there's too many of them....and I'm just...I'm too broken to keep doing it. So I've left them here to return to nature like the animals, and the leaves, when their time is done."
She shifts her gaze to Tuto as Ro explains his request. She smiles, though her eyes are still sad.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Tuto let out a few puffs before giving her a firm nod. He grabbed his flute...then stopped. He couldn't just play like this. Not when he's so full of anguish. It's been so long since he played, almost a whole day! He had to get back into it. Step..step..step sway one two. Step..step..step sway one two. Tuto started with light dancing around his companions, with a few slow twirls around where Sorry and Kora sat. Nothing too intense. Even if it was impossible, the music was to take everyone out of the moment. Even for a second. That's all that mattered.
Rum smiles as he watches Tuto’s performance, enjoying the moment of beauty in the midst of the horror.
Once the music stops, he motions for the others to talk out of earshot of Sorry.
”We should deal with the rest of the bodies, this poor Kokiri is obviously in no state, and I worry that scavengers from the forest will come soon enough and further desecrate these poor people”, he says reverently.
”I understand it will cost us time”, he says then looks over to Sorry, “but we cannot leave her among the dead like this”.
Unless the others have strong objections, he moves to continue his work of collecting bodies, and keeps a lookout for a shovel or anything that can be used like one.
"There is much news, much news indeed. Let me try to recap for you all. The Third Band sends a message with dire news. Their band traveled to Castle Grayskull. They met one who calls herself the Red Priestess, Melisandre. She has been sent by the Lady of Light to fulfill her will. Melisandre is not the defender of the Power and of the castle, however. That title belongs to one who is simply called The Sorceress. The Sorceress gave them refuge for a night and has told them a great many things. Are they true? Can she be trusted? I do not know nor do they. I have heard stories of a great sorceress in Castle Greyskull but not much more than that."
Greko continues
"She told them Lord Vader has been active in the west, moving to claim Castle Grayskull and then all of Fantasia. Vader has been serving Sauron, but Sauron’s own tower has been swallowed up into the sky by the Nothing. The Sorceress showed Band 3 a vision of the entire tower being pulled up into a great blackness in the sky! She told them that the Power of Grayskull can be wielded only by a champion, for whom the Sorceress waits. When the Champion comes, the Power itself will choose them and become wieldable by this Champion. This may be the best way of stopping Vader. The Sorceress also told them that this is not the first of Hyboria’s great cataclysms. This is, in fact, the third!"
Greko looks to the others and continues without blinking or taking a breath
"The first great conjunction signaled the separation of the urSkeks into the urRu and the Skeksis. The second marked the damage sustained by the Crystal of Truth from the Skeksis that split it into the Dark Crystal and the Shard of Division. The Sorceress believes that the Nothing has come this time because the incomplete Crystal is dying, and it's taking Hyboria with it. The Nothing may be an equalizer. The Nothing does not travel from place to place but appears at various locations. There seems to be no way to predict its behavior. She speaks of a Third Brother appearing in the sky, which will mark a significant moment of these times, and may be related to the Nothing. To be certain of why the Nothing is here, she suggested Band 3 speak to Mother Aughra or Morla the Ancient One. But she does believe that the reconstitution of the Crystal would put a stop to the Nothing."
Greko continues once more
"The Sorceress does not know of Ganondorf, but she does know of the Temple of Time. The Temple stands guarded behind the walls of Hyrule Castle and was erected over a thousand trine ago, before the second great conjunction. It stands as a holy testament to the Goddesses as well as a defense of Master Sword, the Pedestal of Time, and the door to the Sacred Realm. If Ganondorf has the Sacred Stones he will be able to unlock the doors of the Temple, but he'll need all three of the pieces of the Triforce to gain access to the Sacred Realm. He'll also have access to the Sword that Seals the Darkness if he has the Sacred Stones. No one has been inside the Temple since shortly after its construction. And if he goes to the Pedestal of Time with the Ocarina of Time...he'll be able to traverse forward and back in time with impunity. The Triforce of Courage is somewhere on the floating island of Celestia, guarded by something great and terrible. So, if Ganondorf has the Triforce of Power, and we know where the Triforce of Courage is, that leaves figuring out where the Triforce of Wisdom lies."
Greko blinks and breathes
"Ah yes uhh what about the girl? Shall we take her with us? Why leave her behind amongst all the dead and bad memories. Perhaps she can explain what has happened. It doesn't make sense that Ganon would go to Hyrule without the Triforce or the Ocarina or perhaps it does?"
"That is her choice on the matter." Lelith did not look particularly shocked by the information provided by Greko, although she did narrow her eyes at him. But she always did that with everyone, didn't she? "I wish to take her and the fairy with us because I do not believe they are safe here, however it is a heavy responsibility. Her safety is in our hands, we are taking her to Hyrule Castle, the one place where we are likely to find Ganondorf and his army. If we do take her, and if she is willing, we have to be absolutely sure we can protect her. Perhaps it will not come to that, and we may leave her in a safer place. What do you say girl?"
"The world turns ever quicker, and our given task of retrieving the alicorn seems a distant memory. It is hard to know which threat is the most pressing now", he says gravely. "It may be that Ganondorf has not headed directly to the castle, as you suggest Greko, in which case travelling there will be a lot safer. And there is certainly a lot more we have to update those at the castle with now. I hope they have news of their own to share, that will point us toward the correct path", he adds looking skyward toward the direction Prim flew, silently wishing it speed and safety.
He does not mention the issue of Sorry and the Fairy, they must make their own choice, and had already indicated that they wanted to stay here.
Sorry sits on her stump and uses her hands to rub feeling into her face while the band talks around her. She seems very disconnected. She finally looks up at Tuto, tears in her eyes, and forces a smile onto her face.
"Thank you for your beautiful song, my brother." She says. "I have only heard my own music for weeks, I guess. It is truly something. I hope you get to share your gift with the whole world."
She listens to the talk, then turns her gaze north, in the direction of the Deku Tree.
"I cannot just leave him." She says out loud when Lelith asks. Kora tugs the girl's green hair, and Sorry covers her face. "We are all he has left, Kora!"
Ro had retreated from the conversation to send Prim off with the message to Hyrule Castle. The elf-dwarf kept his distance from the group apparently lost in thought as he made several hang gestures and murmured things under his breath. At times, Ro glanced in the direction of the Great Deku Tree.
As Sorry finished her statement, Ro interjected himself back into the conversation. The elf-dwarf placed his hand on Greko's shoulder as the lizardfolk was the closest to him, making his body language clear that he required the group's attention. "I've received some new knowledge as well. There is a good chance that the Lord of Darkness no longer dwells within the Great Deku Tree. The tree is ill but still clings to life. I know we have plans to head directly to the castle. I desperately want to check on my family there too. But, it may be worthwhile to take a detour to the great tree to speak to him. He may hold wisdom on the situation that could prove vital to our cause. Besides, Prim is already on her way to the castle to serve as both scout and liaison."
Ro looks to each of his friends, awaiting their responses to his news and suggestion.
Rum strokes the fur under his chin, “In truth part of me does want to follow the trail, rather than heading straight to the castle. Tell me friend Ro, where did this new knowledge come from?”.
“I do trust you of course, and if you say that is the wise course of action I agree, I am just intrigued”.
