The Deku Tree seems to listen to the conversation of the mortals gathered before him. His mouth drops open, lowering like a mighty gate through which they can enter...
Rum watches as the mouth opens revealing a way into the tree. His companions that had voiced their opinion seem to be in favour of taking a look. With a quick glance to Ro, Tuto and Lelith to ensure they did not feel differently, he wanders over to Sorry and Kora.
”Unless you wish to accompany us, I would ask that you take care of our animals please. They are of fine temperament and should cause you no trouble, and with luck we won’t be long. As I say, unless you wish to join us inside?”, he says to the Kokiri and the Fairy.
Ro nodded at Rum. A wordless gesture that he was alright with journeying inside the Great Deku Tree.
This was the closest the band had ever gotten to the dark forces they were tasked with stopping. With the Lord of Darkness absent from the tree, the band could explore the great tree without worry of a direct confrontation. Though the dwarf-elf worried for his family back at Hyrule Castle, it would be foolish to waste this golden opportunity.
Ro looked at the Great Deku Tree and asked, "I will do what I can to excise the corruption inside you. However, we've also come seeking help. What do you know of these dark forces at play? What are their plans and how can we stop them?"
"Sadly, I know little." The Deku Tree said. "I know that the Dark Crystal has weakened from years of abuse at the hands of the Skeksis, and I know that the Darkening, Withering, Nothing...they're all connected to the failure of the Crystal. Once the Crystal has failed completely, there'll be no respite anywhere in the world, and if Darkness has his way, all of Hyboria will be plunged into eternal night while the Crystal dies and life as we know it ends while the denizens of the abyss rise up the walk the surface. Whatever Darkness is, he is not indestructible. He bathed me in infinite night while he resided here, and when he left with Ganondorf, he was hidden in a cart where the two suns could not harm him."
"I did not know that Lord Darkness could not tread where light has touched. I am sure we can make use of this information somehow. Thank you Great Deku Tree." Ro responds.
The elf-dwarf begins to make himself ready for the journey into the great tree.
Oten reaches into the mechanical apparatus on his back and retrieves 5 small orbs. As he taps each one twice on his palm, they light up and begin emitting a five foot glow. He gathers them up in one hand and extends it out to the others. "Here, help yourselves."
Rum wanders over to Oten and takes an orb, pocketing it for the time being, “My thanks, friend Oten”.
”It is also helpful to know for sure that the Lord of Darkness is now allied with Ganondorf and is travelling with him. That was unclear, at least to me, but it does mean we do not have the difficult decision of who to focus on”, he says as he turns back towards the entrance to the tree.
“Let us see the state of things then”, he adds as he moves inside, trying to be quiet and blend into the shadows.
Rum finds that the first room of the Deku Temple is unoccupied but surprisingly well lit but inexplicably uninhabited. There are multiple pits in the ground, a table to the right side of the room, a door to the right, a door to the left, and a damaged set of stairs in the back of the room that lead up to the level above. It looks like the ceiling of this room has been destroyed at some point in the distant past because Rum can see that the upper floor is visible through this huge hole, and it's quite a bit darker.
Lelith refused to take the orb offered by Oten but she did not show any hostility, she merely shook her head. Once inside, she worked to secure the area and kept her eyes and ears sharpened, ready to attack at the first sign of even the slightest suspicious movement.
Rum picks up the greater healing potion and stows it away. "This will likely come in useful at some point", he says showing it to the others as he does so.
He hears Greko ask about which way they should go and turns to the Lizardfolk. "There is also down to consider, and up in fact", he says pointing towards the hole in the floor, then looking up at the caved in ceiling.
"Down appears to descend 30 feet or so, into a darkened room. Probably best to clear one floor at a time though", he adds.
"Let's head right then", he says moving in that direction as he and Oten are close to that door anyway. He stops by the door and listens for any noises coming from beyond.
Oten concludes his study and moves up behind Rum, ready to leap into action, but also curious as to what story might be told by the state of the place.
Ro graciously accepted one of Oten's glowing orbs and placed it into his pouch for the time being. He wasn't the stealthiest or most perceptive person so Ro allowed Rum and the others to take lead in exploring the tree. However, as they entered the second room Ro spoke in a serious tone, "Careful, as you tread this room. The runes on the floor over there look dangerous." The elf-dwarf points over to the magical inscriptions scrawled at the entrance of the far hallway.
As the room is dark, Ro pulls out the growing orb that Oten had given them earlier. The elf-dwarf encants the mage hand cantrip and uses it to hold the glowing orb near the dangerous runes to serve as a marker for anyone who may not have darkvision.
"Perhaps I can deactivate the rune. I have come across many like this in my time. I will get close and take a look" Greko takes out the orb given to him and moves close to the rune but not too close to set it off
Lelith let her companions do what they do best. She turned toward the right side of the room, where there led a table and on it there was something. She moved cautiously to inspect it.

"Perhaps a little light inside, not a fire of course but maybe some light will chase the darkness away?"

The Deku Temple

Lelith refused to take the orb offered by Oten but she did not show any hostility, she merely shook her head. Once inside, she worked to secure the area and kept her eyes and ears sharpened, ready to attack at the first sign of even the slightest suspicious movement.
Rum moves around the room carefully, avoiding the pits and making his way to the table to see if there is anything of interest.
He keeps a close eye on the gelatinous cubes in the holes in the floor, not really sure what to make of them.
He waits for the others to enter before looking to investigate the doors to left or right.
The gelatinous cubes make no effort to attack as the band enters. They seem to be content where they are.
Rum finds a Potion of Greater Healing on the table next to a skull.

Greko looks around in disbelief "This is not what I had imagined...Which way would you like to proceed, left or right?"
Oten leans in close to the skull and lens flick down over his eyes as he inspects it curiously to see what race it might be from.
He looks up at the sound of Greko's voice and looks around at the others to see if they have any input.
Rum picks up the greater healing potion and stows it away. "This will likely come in useful at some point", he says showing it to the others as he does so.
