As the arm is tossed into the room, the wolves hungrily tearing at the flesh, OldMan is able to bravely slip into the space while they are distracted. As they finish quickly chomping down the goblin flesh, they turn their attention back to the party members lingering in the entrance, again snarling and growling but completely ignoring OldMan who can now move freely about the space without being attacked.
Once in the room, OldMan sees a narrow opening in the east wall leading to a natural chimney that looks to climb about 30 feet straight up. At the base of the fissure is rubbish that’s been discarded through the opening above.
We'll count that as your action for this round, OldMan.
Hearing the commotion ahead and seeing Galben run back out from the cave, Regula decides to rush forward to the kennel entrance and up the steps into melee range of Wolf 1, slashing his longsword toward the wolf's body. As the sword makes contact, the wolf crumples to the ground in a pool of blood. (dirty 20 to hit, 4 points of slashing damage). As I go to step back down the stairs, Wolf 2 lunges at me, narrowly missing me as I retreat to the bottom of the steps and out of melee range (wolf 2 opportunity attack fails with 12 to hit). I then step back into the stream to make way for others.
Bearkiller circles around the corner of the entrance. He pierces the wolfs heart and it drops silently to the floor of the cave. (13+2 to hit, 6+2 damage)
Jakes flanks the wolf opposite Bearkiller, skirting the wolfs range and avoiding the gnashing teeth. He takes a mighty swing with his mace (with advantage, flanking. 12 first roll, dirty 20 second roll) and hits it across the snout, scattering several teeth across the floor (6 damage.) OldMan is at my back as I ready my shield, expecting the wolf to lunge at any moment.
The remaining wolf growls viciously at Jake, pulling strongly on its chain; however, the chain does not budge and the rod remains firmly secured. It turns to lunge at Jake, sinking its teeth into Jake's leg (12 to hit, ties go to attacker; 7 points of damage to Jake).
The party can now take their turn in whatever order you'd like.
(Galben rushes back into the Cave next to Regular, he nocks and arrow and takes aim at the final wolf, He takes lefts the arrow fly and it goes through the wolf's left eye, it lets out a small yelp and falls to the ground)
(Attack roll 15+5=20; 3+3=6 piercing damage)
"It's good to begin well but better the end well, haha. Good group effort gents."
(Galben yells over to Jake) "Jake are you alright?"
Jake grunts through the pain "I'll be alright, I think. Give me a moment to staunch the blood. I will need a rest to be at my full ability, but I think we need to proceed if we will have any chance at surprising the goblins and freeing their captive. Go ahead, I'll bring up the rear."
I can't afford to spend my last spell slot, so I'll just tie off a strip of cloth as a makeshift tourniquet and limp along after the others.
"I'll continue to lead us. Jake maybe go in front of Regula and let him bring up the rear of the group"
"It looks quite dark in there. I am going to use my darkvision, but would anyone like a torch? I have plenty to share." (He looks around at the group for any takers on his offer)
Anyone who would like one of Galben's torches may take one and light it. Anyone without darkvision or a light will be at disadvantage in the rest of the cave.
As Galben leads the party further into the depths of the cave, the main passage from the cave mouth climbs steeply upward, the stream plunging and splashing down its west side. In the shadows, a side passage leads west across the other side of the stream.
In the shadows of the ceiling to the north, you can just make out the dim shape of a rickety bridge of wood and rope crossing over the passage ahead of you. Another passage intersects this one, twenty feet above the floor.
Galben quickly sneaks under the bridge, his silent footfalls not even making a sound.
The stream passage continues up beyond another set of uneven steps ahead, bending eastward as it goes. A waterfall sounds out from a larger cavern somewhere ahead of you. As Thallan approaches the steps leading up to the path below the bridge, he briefly spots what appears to be a goblin sentry hiding on the bridge above (perception check 22). It shows no recognition that it saw Galben sneak past. Stopping in his tracks and backing back around the corner, Thallan tells the rest of the group what he saw. What would you like to do, Thallan?
Jake pulls the team aside. "We can do a coordinated attack. Ranged weapons only, bows or spells. On the count of three we let fly, and if enough of us hit, their sentry is toast. What say you?"
Bearkiller whispers “Aye, we can’t let Galben get too far ahead so we’ll need to be quick and quiet. We should shoot down the goblin before he spots us or Galben.”
Jake waives to Galben, hopefully getting his attention. He points up to the goblin, mimics the drawing of a bow and shooting, then holds up 3 fingers. He counts down 3, 2, 1 then mimics an arrow flying away from him.
Jake then takes his spellcaster stance, raising his hand the rest of the group with 3 fingers up...
(Galben makes an insight check 13+4=17. He understands what Jake is motioning to him, gives a thumbs up and gets underneath the bridge to use it as cover.)
Jake counts down from 3, and on one he cast sacred flame on the goblin. Hoping the element of surprise enabled Galben and Bearkiller to loose arrows and silently dispatch the sentry.
