The party gathers in front of the rope bridge ready to cross.
Though the night is falling there is still some light and you can see on the other side a broken obelisk. A massive stone obelisk lies beside its broken pedestal base. Unfamiliar spidery script covers the face the spire. Though it would have clearly reached a staggering height when standing, now the obelisk spans a broad pool of swamp water, a bridge between two sections of ground.

Escarin looks over the inscription carefully trying to recall anything his previous studies had turned up, as he does he allows himself to be more open and receptive to the source of his powers.
Escarin struggles for a few minutes. You are aware that it is an ancient language but you can't seem to grasp the meaning. Shan recognize Istarian letters but gets no further.
Having spent a fair bit of time wondering Krynn and learning much about its history Alex will take a moment to study the writing before them. History 15
Geoff, not much of a stickler for history, says "These symbols, I wonder they mean?" He does take a moment to admire the craftsmanship of the obelisk itself while the others are attempting to read the script.

Shan will take out a parchment and her quill and will write down the Istarian runes to further study
”This is fascinating Escarin” she says “ this is Istarian. I only saw this scripture on that book back in Palanthas in that antiques shop!” She looks very excited while copying it. “Shall I had been able to buy it now I could decipher this but I will once we come back!”
"Of course! I should have seen it myself, well done Shan!" Escarin looks over her shoulder as she copies the text. "Let us hope we have time in the future to look over this, if we aren't slaying dragons that is."

Vhon - Level 2 Warlock - What shall become of the Drunken Sailor?
Bryony examines the runes with a look of interest mixed with incomprehension. Shan's explanation perks her up, though there's no telling what the future of this group holds after exploring this city together. So in the meantime, Bryony also makes a point of copying down the runes since the group's stopped for it anyway. One never knows when the opportunity for a translation might come up!
You all move past the pillar and enter the city proper, or what is left of it.
Emerging from the dense jungle, a broad cobblestone street runs south to north among the ruins. A roadway branches to the west, where the fluted columns and relief carvings of ruined buildings list wearily. A large cobblestone courtyard lies to the east amid crumbling structures. Beyond the courtyard are four tall free-standing columns: no trace remains of the building they once supported. In front of these pillars, a huge well plunges into the earth. Vapors rise from the well. To the north of the well, a single building stands whole, although time and weather have worn its outer walls.
(OOC: Listen checks for everyone.)
Sorry to have left you hanging. So little time so much to do.

The ancient ruins of the city are breathtaking. Bryony's never been much of a history buff or an architect but the sense of the past is palpable.
So is the silence, once the others draw her attention to it. Shivering, the redhead beckons to the still intact building. "Let's skirt that well, shall we?" And she starts to angle around the huge hole in the ground, willing to spend an extra few minutes just to avoid walking anywhere near it for now.
You all move toward what seems to be a huge temple of some sorts to the east of the plaza.
Taking care not to get to close to the well you still have the smell of rot and tepid water that hits your senses hard. A disgusting vapor, a sickly greenish grey, rises from it.
Once it is in your back you feel better and move toward the more interesting building.
