The night passed—slowly for those on watch, swiftly for those asleep. The storm continued unabated all night, the wind whipping the lake into a white-capped sea. Lightning branched through the darkness like flaming trees.
Thunder rumbled continually. The storm finally blew itself out by morning, and the half-elf watched day dawn, gray and chill. The rain had ended, but storm clouds still hung low. No sun appeared in the sky. Alex felt a growing sense of urgency. He could see no end to the storm clouds massing to the north. Autumn storms were rare, especially ones with this ferocity. The wind was bitter, too, and it seemed odd that the storm came out of the north, when they generally swept east, across the Plains.
Sensitive to the ways of nature, the strange weather upset Alex nearly as much as Geoff's fallen stars.
Corn was making breakfast when Alex came back into the cave and the others were sturring.
Tomas was with Kinlin outside so it was time to talk about their next move.
Alex sighed and scratched his beard. Everyone was listening. “The Theocrat in Solace is corrupt. We know that now. He is using the goblin scum to take control. If he had the staff, he would use it for his own profit. We’ve searched for a sign of the true gods for years. It seems we may have found one. I am not about to hand it over to that Solace fraud. Tika said she believed the Highseekers in Haven were still interested in the truth. They may be able to tell us about the staff, where it came from, what its powers are."
He looked at Geoff and Tyrros, took out a thin stick of wood and drew in the sand “We are here, on the west bank of Crystalmir,” he continued. “North and south of us are branches of the Kharolis Mountains which form the boundaries of Solace Vale. There are no known passes through either range except through Gateway Pass south of Solace—” “Almost certainly held by the goblins,” muttered Xorn. “There are passes to the northeast but those lead to the Plains, and I don’t believe you want to go that direction.”
“The west road goes through the Sentinel Peaks and Shadow Canyon to Haven. That seems to me the obvious direction to take.”
Shanryar frowned. “And if the Highseekers there are as bad as the one in Solace?"
"It's decided then. Everyone eat up, the road is long and hard but we are stronger together." Xorn's meal is strangely almost intoxicatingly good. You feel stronger after eating. Your're not sure what his secret ingredients are but he has definitely learned some new cooking techniques since last you all knew him.
[ooc] I like the idea of his meals are what handles his inspiring leader feat most of the time. Maybe the occasional inspiring word like this. SOO, everyone will have 7 temporary hit points to start the trip. These will last until used or your next long rest. Enjoy :)
After devouring his food Alex claps Xorn on the shoulder "I wonder where you get some of your recipes. You never fail to feed us with so little." Gathering up the rest of the company. "We need to move as swiftly as we can. We have little time to waste. I would like answers but I don't know were we will truly find them. We must help and protect each other at all times."
He finishes eating his food and savors every bite. "Simply amazing Xorn. A triumph." As he cleans his utensils he says, "It sounds as if we have one choice, the west road. We'll be fine as long as we stick together, come what may. Alex is right, we should leave soon and with haste."

The thick woods of Solace Vale were a green mass of vibrant life. Beneath the dense roof of the vallenwoods flourished thistlebrush and greenwall. The ground was crisscrossed with the bothersome tangleshoot vines.
These had to be trod on with great care or they would suddenly snake around an ankle, trapping the helpless victim until he was devoured by one of the many predatory animals lurking in the Vale, thus providing tangleshoot with what it needed to live—blood.
It took over an hour of hacking and chopping through the brush to get to the Haven Road.
All of companions were scratched, torn, and tired, and the long stretch of smooth-packed dirt that carried travelers to Haven or beyond was a welcome sight.
It wasn’t until they stopped just in sight of the road and rested that they realized there were no sounds. A hush had fallen over the land, as if every creature were holding its breath, waiting.
Now that they had reached the road, no one was particularly eager to step out of the shelter of the brush.

Escarin turns to his small companion "I have a job for you already Havran, fly a little way down the road, see if anything is coming and fly back I will see what you see."

The companions waited in silence. Gray clouds massed overhead, the sky grew darker and soon water began to drip through the branches of the trees.
Soon the companions could hear nothing but the rain splatting against the already wet leaves, drumming on shield and helm. It was a cold, steady rain, the kind that seeps through the thickest cloak.
Escarin through Havran eyes, looked out to the road. He had never seen anything to compare to these pilgrims in his years of life on Krynn. They were 8 of them, tall, about six feet in height. Long robes shrouded their bodies, hooded cloaks covered the robes. Even their feet and hands were wrapped in cloth, like bandages covering leprous wounds.
"There are a strange group on the road ahead, they appear to be pilgrims or something like it but they are covered in bandages, completely covered. Havran seems unsettled and the forest is unnaturally quiet, I suggest we take care."
Escarin strokes the raven gently.
"Well done, I knew you'd be useful my little friend."

The pilgrims are 100 feet away.
The road you are on splits the forest in two so its easy to hide.
But you do have to react quickly because the road is pretty straight and the pilgrims will see you soon.
