Ashley blasts the cave crawler right in the throat with her flame. Marion follows up with a lighter blast of her own as she hangs back to make sure Vilus can get to safety.
Attack: 16 Damage: 10
Cave Crawler's turn:
The creature recoils and coughs up smoke. Still tortured by the layered voices in its brain, it thrashes on the spot, causing more structural damage to the tunnel. Large chunks of stone and earth begin falling regularly from the ceiling and walls, becoming outright hazardous.
(On your turn, make a DC 13 Dex save or take 4 damage and have your movement speed halved)
“Watch out”Malachi gasps as he hurries down the passage “this ends in a drop off! Be careful as you approach the end of tunnel.” Malachi moves as fast and far as he can, searching for the ledge that he believes is near the tunnel opening.
Perception: (Passive 14): 13.
Malachi turns and calls forth the mental image of a spectral hand of death clawing at the wounded crawler.

Samir races towards the cave mouth, ducking aside with arms raised over his head as debris begins to rain down. He pulls up short at the edge of the chasm, eyes widening as his sudden stop sends pebbles skittering over the lip. He looks quickly for a way around the drop off. Hearing the beast still thrashing behind them, he turns and hurls one of his small metal discs. It lands between the monster and the party, spouting up a jet of flame in the middle of the tunnel. Hopefully the beast possessed some of most animals' primal fear of fire and would hesitate to charge across the swirling blossom and give them enough time to escape.
Casting Conjure Bonfire and dropping Hunter's Mark. If the worm moves into the fire it has to make a DC 14 Dex save or take 2 fire damage.
Joren DEX save: 19 ((rolled in DDB character sheet, visible in campaign log)).
Wiping blood from his eyes, Joren is able to sidestep the worst of falling rocks and debris, some of it just bouncing harmlessly off his shoulder. Carefully arriving at the chasm's edge that Malachi is scouting, he slows his breathing and calmly looks in all directions for a ledge, with clearer eyes this time.
Perception: 14 ((rolled in DDB character sheet, visible in campaign log)).
He summons his echo with a bonus action. If he sees any gap between the end of the path and the ledge, he moves the echo towards the ledge, planning to switch places with it next turn and hold a rope for others. He then steps back 5' (within 100' of the Crawler) and fire his little-used heavy crossbow at it.
Crossbow attack: 7 to hit, 6 damage ((DDB character sheet, visible in log)). He grimaces as his unaccustomed shot goes wide.
He mentally wills his companions to get away from the Crawler while it is temporarily stopped and wishes them luck in their ranged attacks.
As rocks begin tumbling and the whispers seem to be working, Vilus watches as Joren deftly frees himself and makes good headway toward the end of the tunnel, being healed as he goes. Vilus now the furthest back and the one possibly In trouble dashes as fast as he can toward the opening, dodging falling debris as he moves, vilus makes a good 60ft stretch this turn.
Malachi sees the end of the tunnel open up into a massive cavern. The ceiling looks to be about 100 ft above them, and past the steep drop off before them, who knows how deep the chasm goes. To his relief, there does seem to be narrow ledge along the wall of the chasm, off to the right, and in the dim glow it looks like it may wrap right around to the other side of the vast pit.
He can't quite make out the source of that glow yet, however.
Ashley continues to try and run down the tunnel, sending her produce flame back at the creature with the impowered fire damage.
Attack: 7
Damage: 2
Then as the creature wriggles in pain in the tunnel, a chunk of the ceiling breaks off and hits Ashley on her shoulder.. continuing 15' down the tunnel.

Marion launches her own fire at the cave crawler once more
Attack: 9 Damage: 2
Then she turns to continue running, doing her best to avoid the falling debris. Seeing Ashley stagger from the impact of falling rock, however, she stops short and turns to face the Cave Crawler once more. "Don't you dare stop running, Ashley!" she shouts as she takes up a defensive position.
(Marion moves 5 feet toward Ashley and is now 55 feet from the end of the tunnel.)
The cave crawler hisses as the whispers fade from its mind, and begins surging forward with a renewed vigour. The cave rumbles as it closes in on the lone figure of Marion at a frightening speed, its tentacles reaching out for her-
A great slab of stone shifts from the ceiling, smashing into the ground right before the creature. It rams into the sudden obstruction, and its tentacles lash out past it, coming within just a few feet of Marion's face, but un able to reach.
It was 60 ft from Marion, and had its movement of 93 (-7 from Malachi's damage) halved to 46 from the failed dex save. With its ten foot reach, it comes up a mere 4 feet short.
Marion's face is strained and pale. She had clearly been preparing to use up what little magic energy she had left, but finds herself unexpectedly spared. The cave continues to crumble.
Meanwhile, Joren looks over the edge and sees what looks like an interminable drop into the darkness. But there, in the middle of the chasm, rising from the depths almost to the height of the ledge he stands upon, is a spire of some faintly luminescent material that looks almost like melted wax. Riddling the sides of the spire are holes that even from this distance appear large. Housed within many of those holes, Joren can just barely make out what appear to be more worms like the one approaching from behind the adventurers at that moment. Perhaps a hundred of them, or more, though they seem dormant. At least for now.
(Party is up. Marion is 55 ft from the end. Ash is 45. Vilus and Malachi are 30. Samir and Joren are there)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
It takes all Joren's will power not to run back into the tunnel to aid Marion and Ashley, but he knows it is too far for even his echo to reach the Crawler, and the creature will be advancing on the party soon enough. He takes a deep breath, regaining his Second Wind as a bonus action and healing 13 hp.
Voice just loud enough to carry to the party, he growls "As Malachi is saying. Deep chasm here, but we must be turning onto the narrow ledge to the right. Maybe the crawler will be falling over the edge in its rush? Retreating fast away from the crawler and collapsing cave everyone! Dashing if you must. Many more crawlers are sleeping in a spire far out in the chasm, but perhaps we can be going around on the ledge quietly? Malachi, Silas, that dissonant magic is working brilliantly if you have any more."
Joren himself stands just around and past the edge of the tunnel's end, stepping carefully onto the ledge to the right 5-10', sending his echo back 20-25' back into the tunnel. Hoping the others move or dash past it and readying a greatsword attack from his echo's position for the Crawler.
Ashley screams out as she thinks the creature is going to take Marion. As it stops right in front of her, she breathes a quick sigh of relief then yells at Marion, "Runn!! Let's get out of here!"
Samir can only nod at Joren as he speaks. Taking a deep breath he begins making his way out along the ledge, concentrating solely on that task and nothing more for the moment. (Full move plus dash)
Vilus moves the last 30ft to the ledge and positions himself on the ledge behind Joren, so as to not be in the way should something happen, as he does he takes a length of rope out if his pack and ties it tightly around his waist, looping the remaining length over his shoulder bandolier style just in case.
Malachi needs no encouragement from Ashley, but as she yells at Marion he takes off sprinting down the tunnel as well. He dashes down the tunnel and, slowing as he moves onto the ledge, continues moving as far as he can out on the ledge. Hoping that there is no way the worm can follow.
His breath catches as he notices the pillar in the middle of the chasm with the additional worms. “What are those things? This can not be the way the cultists travel.” He looks off in the darkness to see where the ledge goes and tries to determine more information on these worms.
As everyone scrambles to get onto the ledge, Marion follows suit, running headlong down the tunnel. There is a grating of stone, as the cave crawler chews its way through the stone chunk blocking its way. In a matter of seconds, it is reduced to small enough pieces for the creature to push its way through. It once more glides forward at a terrifying speed toward Marion. Closer and closer it gets, reaching out to grab her... And then she dodges around Joren's echo, standing firm and resolute.
The echo leaps into the creature's jaws, bracing itself against the teeth as it stabs deep into the cave crawler's throat. Again and again, the blade plunges in, spattering green pus each time the blade is pulled out of its flesh.
Marion reaches the end of the tunnel and dodges to the side, and then the cave crawler and echo both are careening out of the tunnel and over the ledge. As it falls through the air, tentacles flailing and gore spewing from its mouth, everyone has an opportunity to its whole form. A sickly pale yellow, its slimy body is not particularly long. This gives it more the appearance of an oversized maggot than a proper worm or snake.
For several seconds it plummets in full view, and Joren feels the tether to his echo stretch and then finally snap before the creature is swallowed by the darkness. Another second later, there is a great splash from below. The sound echoes through the chasm, and when it does, Samir notices just the slightest movement out of the corner of his eye. He looks at the massive waxy spire and scans it for more movement, but all he sees are more of the large maggot-worm-things still lying dormant in their holes. It must be getting late. Perhaps they sleep during the night hours, even though they can't see the sun?
A faint rumbling and the sounds of shifting stone and rubble can still be heard within the tunnel.
I would like someone to make a luck roll. First come first serve. Roll 1d20. On a 2-5, the tunnel behind you is impassable. On a 6-10, it will be difficult and time-consuming, possibly risky, but passable. On an 11-19, it will be fairly unobstructed. 1 & 20 will be special circumstances.
