Samir cannot help but gasp at each attempt, his throat and chest clenching in horror. Finally, he takes the rope himself, tying off. His lip finds its way between his teeth as he steps to the edge, forcefully cutting off whatever noise might otherwise escape. He closes his eyes, gathering himself... and then he jumps.
Joren allows himself a quick but heartfelt hug with Ashley, leaning into her warmth and trying to bolster both her and his own spirits before centering himself mentally. Re-focusing and preparing for Samir and Marion to make the leap.
Come on Samir, this is a jump you can be making too, you can... oh no!
Joren's adrenaline, still flowing after hauling Ashley up, surges again as he sees his friend, the brilliant and shy artificer, trip while making the jump.
"Not... letting... you... go... Samir," he whispers through gritted teeth as he pulls the half-orc up just as he had with the fire genasi.
Athletics at advantage: 26 (natural 20 again!) ((Rolled on character sheet, visible on campaign log.))
Samir tenses nervously as he makes the jump, and that costs him speed as he flies through the air. But just when it looks like he is about to come up short, he reaches out for Joren's outstretched hand, and a deft tug lands him on the ledge feet first, with Vilus gripping his shoulder to keep him stable.
Malachi moves away from the edge of the ledge, giving Joren and Vilus more room to work as they help the others across, pulling them up as necessary. His breath catches as he sees Vilus and Ashley slip as they attempt to leap across. Malachi keeps switching nervous glances between the spire and creatures in the center of the chamber and the path forward down the opening in front of them, looking for movement or danger from either direction. Perception: 9.
Having seen everyone else go, Marion takes her position getting ready to jump. She takes a deep breath. A second. Then with a wordless prayer, she runs and jumps.
Her heavy armour pulls her down as she leaps through the air, and she just barely makes the jump, landing with one knee on the ledge and the other leg dangling out over the abyss below. With a grunt, she pushes up to her feet and steps away from the narrow ledge, looking now to the opening before them.
It is small. A naturally formed opening that looks like it occasionally spills a small stream of water out into the darkness below. Malachi crouches down to look through it. It looks like they would have to crawl to get through the opening, but only for a few feet before it widens out again.
Joren lets out a sigh of relief as Marion barely makes it across. He turns to the crawlway, sensing that everyone is on their last legs. Trying to rally them.
"Checking for hazards everyone, and then crawling. Sooner we are leaving this kill zone, the better. If no one is seeing anything, I can be sending my echo through and switching places to scout on the other side where it is widening out." He peers through himself, first.
Vilus let's the others work out what the best course of action is next, nodding to Joren as he suggests sending the echo forth. "We need to move, but cautious is best, let's get as far as we can out of earshot of these... Things." For now he wraps the rope back up over his shoulder, bandolier style, one end still tied around his waist.
Joren hears the dripping of water, and can see what looks like a pool of it on the other side of the hole, though there is also solid ground. Besides the dripping, there is no sign of movement that he can make out with his eyes or his ears.

Ashley crawls through the opening and makes her way to the cavern, wide eyed looking in every shadow. She is absolutely frazzled by everything they have come across so far in this underground journey. "Do you, do you think it is safe to rest a bit here? I'm not sure how much further I can go." She hangs her head, feeling more of a burden then anything to this group she has grown so fond of.
Ashley finds herself in a small natural chamber with a pool of water in the center. A trickle of water feeds into it from an opening on the other side of the space. She sees no other entrances or exits. No cracks in the smooth, slick walls that faintly glisten with the little bit of luminescent light that makes its way from the insect's spire behind them.
"we might have to push just a little bit further Ashley, I'm sorry but we know these things can burrow" turning to the others still out on the ledge Vilus continues, "broader people through last I reckon, I've got more of a chance of getting stuck in that gap than most of you and I don't wanna trap you out here because of my ass, go on" he gestures for the others to go first through the crawl space as he brings up the rear.
Joren sends his echo through next to Ashley and swaps places with it, then moves his echo into the room as well when able. Drawing his greatsword and looking around for threats and hazards, including any coming from inside the pool of water.

Malachi scrambles through the narrow opening and into the chamber, letting out a sigh of relief as he sits down among the rocks. “I am with Ashley. I am not sure how much longer I can go on, this seems like a good spot to rest.” He looks around the chamber for any threats, or any sign that others had visited here before. The missing miner had been carving a path here after all. Perception: 5.
Looking suspiciously at the pond in the middle of the chamber, he flips a copper piece along his fingers and focuses his mind, trying to detect thoughts of any creature that may lie hidden in the pond or elsewhere nearby.
Samir crawls through the opening, huffing quietly to himself. On the other side, he drops to a seat near Malachi, obviously running ragged. "Do you think we might be able to examine this area and make sure it is safe, atl east for a little bit? I think we would hear if one of those... things... tried to burrow its way in."
Vonce the majority of the party is through Vilus tries to squeeze himself through the gap, with a little whispered cursing and some grunts he manages it.
Coming out on the other side he gives the place a once over, looking around for traps, ambushes and the like (perception roll 2)
Looking through the haze of near exhaustion, vilus is confident that nothing here could possibly hurt anyone and so he wanders off just a little to peer down the corridor exiting this chamber, in the hopes that nothing is also there.
Like the others, Malachi sees nothing of concern, but ever-cautious, he reaches out to sense other minds around his as he stares into the pool. Samir... Vilus... Ashley... Joren... Marion... That's it. The immediate area seems clear of life. At least intelligent life, that is. A glint does catch his eye though, as the light from Samir's small device enters the room. There is some sediment in the bottom of the pool, and at certain angles, Malachi thinks he sees flecks of something shiny within. Silver dust?
Looking down the path at the far side, Vilus just sees smooth, natural, uneven walls travelling into the gloom.
Thinking about it, what Samir says likely holds some important truth. There's been no evidence so far that those worm-like creatures have much climbing capability, and even as far as tunneling goes, its tentacles and teeth seem more suited for removing and breaking down obstacles in a pre-existing tunnel than for burrowing through solid rock. Not much is known about the abilities of their adult forms, but at a glance, they don't bear much resemblance to most burrowing creatures.
