Both arrows miss Balthar, the nimble bird dodging their fire. Scared for his life, he flies back to Koric, thankfully unharmed. Although he no longer can see the gnolls, you now are aware of their presence. How do you all proceed along the path, knowing that the gnolls on and around the hill are some way off in the distance?

Rather than fly back, Balthar dives toward the ground and at the last moment before he hits, he winks out of existence, and Koric summons him again at the end of his arm.
Balthar appears again on your arm, happy to be back safe and have dodged the gnoll's fire. He climbs up onto your shoulder, snuggling up against your face, clearly overjoyed that the gnolls missed
Koric absentmindedly rubs under Balthar's wing and tries to use his newfound power to summon food for Balthar.
"They may come looking for the bird, but if not, shall we just try to avoid them?" From his manner it seems clear that he would prefer to avoid a fight.
"We have a mission to get to the mere, I would agree it would best not to get sidetracked. But I do not feel we need to fear these gnolls. If we want to avoid them, lets get going on a wider path." Looking to the ground she adds, "But let us not get lost"
Waving your hand, you are surprised to see that Balthar immediately flies to a rock slightly to your left and is feasting on some beetles and a small shrew.
@Soloth
You try to look around, channeling your patron's power to analyze the landscape around you, but it just doesn't seem to work, and you discern nothing about the landscape or how you could all proceed from here
@All - If you all want to try and avoid the gnolls by finding a way to loop around, anyone who wants to can make a perception, nature, or survival check to try and determine the best way to avoid their location. Each type of check may yield different results. Soloth has already made his check, so he cannot make another one

Koric sends Balthar away from the known location of the gnolls , looking for likely cover (perhaps a line of hills) and, ideally, a clear path, while also trying to identify the best way forward himself.
@Koric You take a look at the side of the trail, trying to see what you can find or if there is any clear trail here. It's very obvious to you that there is no obvious trail like the one you are on, but upon closer inspection, parts of the grass look a bit more worn, as if by the footsteps of other creatures. Clearly, you would not be the first to try and head around this way, although where exactly whatever wore this ground out went is unclear. While you are confident you could dodge the gnolls and get back on the path eventually, you also notice the rest area is far more overgrown and the possible path you could flollow far windier than the trail you are on.
Balthar, flying a bit lower than usual in order to remain out of sight of the gnolls, sees that the area ahead is, while a bit more overgrown and windier, largely the same as the rest of the area in terms of landscape. Rocky outcroppings and small hills still dot the landscape as patchy grass weaves through them, and those inconsistent hills likely won't provide perfect cover. Still, unless you act recklessly, you should be able to keep Balthar out of danger

Elandra sits herself down cross-legged on the soft, earthen floor, listening to Koric's description of events and Balthar's discovery of the gnolls. "I have never known gnolls to be reasonable with their attitudes towards travellers. Avoidance might be the better path to tread here. Koric, from the permanency of their camp, did they look like they were a roaming band, or as though they were guarding the road? It may be that the tracks you spied were made by their own patrols and we are inviting trouble either way."
From the descriptions Koric is able to provide, Elandra will try to fathom out anything she can about the alternate trail.

Liri nods in agreement to the conversation around avoiding the gnolls. "If we have to fight them we can, but it makes sense to save our energy where possible". She looks around at the terrain that surrounds them, trying to identify any features of the landscape that they might be able to use to avoid the notice of the gnolls.

Lux agrees "It is better to avoid the danger and save our full strength for the battle to come. While a couple of us are not very stealthy," Thumping his own armor "we should try and move as quietly as possible around them. I can give divineguidance to assist us in our movement" (stealth checks)
@Elandra You try and look around at the animals and other wildlife in the area you might be headed through for anything useful, but your eyes suddenly flash gold and all you can see is piles and piles of coins flipping through the air. Probably not the best time for that useless vision @Liri Taking a look at the makeshift path that Koric identified, your instincts and your connection with nature home in on the path, locking you in to its presence. You feel relatively confident that you could follow this path wherever it goes without losing it @Lux You notice many of the same things that Koric did, but you pick up on the additional detail that it doesn't seem like what you can see of the "path" ahead is as populated in terms of animal as the area around the main trail that you are on. @Jade You focus in on the "trail" Koric noticed in much the same way as Liri, but also feel that with your natural instincts, you could successfully lead the group back to the main path even if this little makeshift trail doesn't connect back to it. However, as you go to examine one last thing, you trip over a rock and fall flat on your face, the earth thundering beneath you. Luckily, you aren't hurt, and you don't think the gnolls were close enough to hear you, but you can feel the ground rumble a little way away, almost as if something else did...
What does the group do from here? Do you attempt to go curve around and avoid the gnolls?
Elandra gets herself up, and offers Jade a helping hand up. "I got nothing useful to aid our cause. Our reasons for leaving the main path and avoiding the gnolls were sound, unless we have any strong objections I vote we stick to that. Just the number of gnolls we would face would put us at a disadvantage, and from the sounds of it the one in charge might be a bit meaner than the other runts. Even if none of them can hit a bird in flight." She looks over to Balthar, "Thankfully."
