You turn to look at Tempus, and then remember he's already gone. Your patron has left to attend to his other duties, wars raging across various realms where he must stoke the flames of battle and watch as those who die gloriously on the battlefield move on into a glorious afterlife across the various Outer Planes

Mystra begins to prepare her spell to return you all to the material plane, wishing you good luck on your quest. You all close your eyes and find yourself back in the world you remember. Behind you are miles of field and pastures, a few human farmers cultivating the land in order to try and sustain small local communities that have fled here since Talos's ascension. Ahead of you are a small range of hills, covered in patchy grass with a few rocky outcroppings. According to the information Tymora and Mystra gave you, the Mere of Dead men was once on the other side of these hills. Despite seemingly having no supplies, upon even a single thought of being hungry or thirsty, food and water appears next to you, and you feel that you will be similarly blessed by your patron gods when it comes to shelter as well. A small dirt path leads through the hills in front of you, worn and clearly out of use for decades, but seemingly leading in the right direction
Is there anything you would like to do before you begin the day's travel?

Koric holds out his arm, at the end of which is a soft leather wrist guard upon which an owl appears, staring at him. He stares back, then crouches down and closes his eyes. A few moments later the owl takes wing, circling above the party, before returning to Koric and settling on his shoulder which has similar soft leather pads, much more scratched and worn than the ones on his wrists.
Actions: Summoned familiar from it's private dimension, then set it aloft to ~100' with senses linked to get an idea of what lies ahead. He will do this periodically as they walk.
Perception: 20 (passive 18 - just sight and sound; smell is worse, 13)
@All (as a result of Koric sharing what his familiar sees)
The trail ahead of you seems relatively calm, mostly just patchy grass with a few hilly outcroppings and not that much else of note. The dirt path in front of you extends through the mountains for as far as the owl can see
Koric tightens the straps of his pack, ready to start moving. Nothing has tried to kill us, yet. Small blessing. So far, so good, I guess. He tries to stick to the middle of the group, between his heavily armed and armored companions.
As they travel he sends Balthar (the Owl) aloft periodically to check their surrounds, especially as they approach the top of hills -- in part to see what's on the other side before they crest it themselves, but also because the extra altitude might afford greater range of visibility. He continues to relay what he sees as he sees it.

As Koric begins to march along the path, the party moves along with him. The landscape around you remains largely unchanged, still mostly full of patchy grass and few rocky outcroppings. The dirt path you are traveling on extends seemingly endlessly in a straight line, and as you move farther and farther away from the plains where you started, it begins to fade a bit until the landscape, although it is still visible. You walk past a few packs of roaming deer and other animals, but otherwise there's not much here but some barren trees
Random Encounters Roll: 11
What do you all do as you travel for the first part of the day?
You don't really notice anything special about these animals that would be unusual or anything significant about their behavior. Still, you notice there are far fewer animals around than you would expect for hills like these. Clearly, the chaos and destruction that has occurred has taken a toll on the wildlife as well

As the group have made their way across the open plain, Elandra has been serenading them with wistful tunes, breezy tones, and vocals that have drifted in and out of their thoughts. To those that take heed for more than a moment to listen, they will hear lyrics recounting the wonders of NeverWinter, of the Jewel of the North, and the tragedies that struck the city - the wailing death, the spellplague, and the eruption of Mount Hotenow - yet how the city and the people survived each disaster, and further thrived. The lyrics end reminding people that hope still lives and that Neverwinter lives on in the people of the north, until it rises to be treasured again as it always has.
Koric listens to the songs, seemingly lost in the dream of what was and what might be. His mood seems buoyed by the nostalgic themes while the music continues, but at the end he adjusts his pack awkwardly and seems to deflate, his eyes glistening and focused on the ground in front of his feet.

As they travel, Liri is for the most part quiet, allowing the songs and stories of the bard to wash over her. She tries to keep a watchful eye on her surroundings, looking for any sign that they are starting to approach more dangerous territories - be that the influence of Talos, or the influence of the death magic in the Mere
Elandra transitions from the sombre reverie of memories past, memories that she has spent the last months keeping strong amongst the people she encounters, reminding them to keep faith and that fortunes are part of a turning cycle, luck comes and goes though through all moments, good or bad, there is hope. She plucks up a happier tune and queries teh group, "So, had anybody been to the Mere before this happened? I have only ever travelled past it on the High Road. The old tales of Iniarv, the mage turned lich, and King Uth's plea that lead to the creation of the place have turned me a penny or two in some of the taverns, I never had reason to venture closer than the High Road to it though."
Jade enjoys the travel with her new company. And once Elandra starts on her music, she smiles letting the notes and nostalgia wash over her. For such a terrible undertaking they were heading straight for, it sure was a great way to start. She keeps a keen eye out for any other trails or tracks that appear out of place in the area.
Survival 20
"I have not traveled over here on the West side of the Swoardcoast, I have mainly kept to the South and East for the majority of my life. I have heard of it and I am very curious as to what we might find. Also, thank you for your music as we travel. When we are not in need of stealth," looking down at herself, she smirks, "not that I would be good at that anyway, it is most appreciated."
As they get to a small crest during their walk, Jade decides to try and check on their surroundings, using [Tooltip Not Found] seeing if there is anything good or evil nearby. (tried Divine Sense using the sense[ ] but it didn't work, but that is what I'm using)
Using your Divine Sense to survey the landscape around you, you begin the feel a faint, lingering evil creep into your senses. You don't get the sense this is the trail of any particular unholy creature, but rather just the pollution of lands that were once the Mere penetrating even this deep into the hills
@Koric
As you progress forward, Balthar continues to fly above you and keep watch. Ahead of you, the outcroppings and small hills begin to become higher, the grass becomes even patchier, and the slightly barren trees you have been seeing fade into thorn bushes. The dirt path you are on extends outwards as far as he can see, weaving between outcroppings and trailing off far into the landscape. However, as Balthar flies through the sky, observing the nearly treeless landscape, something wizzes past his left shoulder
Roll a Stealth check and a (sight-based) Perception check for Balthar
@All (Since Koric is still relaying what Balthar sees)
Balthar reacts as something flies over his left wing, scanning the landscape for what could have fired at him, flapping his wings in a bit of a panic as he does. With his powerful eyesight, he sees it with relative ease as he scans his eyes over a small, rocky mound that sits a bit off the path on the righthand side. On top of it is what looks like a ruined camp, and a small band of 4 gnolls standing on top of it. One of them is wearing far more ornate armor than the other three and seems lightly larger than the rest of the group. Behind the outcropping, the figures of three more gnolls are visible. You yourself cannot see them, as the hill the gnolls are on is far enough forward and enough off the path that it is not yet visible to you, but the gnolls also are unaware of your presence.
Balthar, on the other hand, isn't so lucky. While one of the gnolls on the outcropping and the ones behind it are distracted, the two at front and the larger looking one spot Balthar as he flies franticly through the sky. Balthar also notices that the bigger one already has his bow drawn - that must be what just narrowly missed him. The other two raise their bows and fire, attempting to hit Balthar despite the long distance, almost as if he is target practice
Koric looks up one last time in order to remember Mystra's face. To have seen such a thing in my lifetime is a blessing. He smiles. "I am ready".
