Gos sets up a little metal holder in the fire a bit, scoops some beef tallow from a tin into a pan, and lays down some fish she had caught and cleaned into the pan. Not the fanciest thing in the world, but it's almost certainly better than the goat meat or dried rations. "I caught a few fish today, you can save that stuff for when we need it. And I'll take the first shift. You'll hear my guns go off pretty easily if something bad happens."
Conductor noticbly does not eat anything and lets the others share the food. “I can be inert and still aware of my surroundings, so I can be a second set of eyes during all watches, but I will be inert on the first watch unless something happens.”
Previous nights, the sky had been slightly cloudy, obscuring the stars. But tonight, as the sun sets and your eyes adjust to the darkness, you're greeted with your first glimpse at the fabled Skallbrekkan night sky. For those who've not experienced this, it can be quite breathtaking. At a glance it appears as if there isn't a black spot in the sky as it is so full of stars with the center of the sky being the brightest and most dense.
The night passes without incident.
Morning arrives and as usual, the dwarves are early risers, getting straight to work. As two of them prep breakfast (hard cheese, harder bread, and unfiltered coffee) the others pack bags and prepare the climbing gear. Gimult and Sannl, the two who set the route, finish breakfast early and climb up ahead of the group. Double checking everything.
Everyone Brottor looks over at all of you, "I'd like you all to go up next. Make sure the top is safe enough for the rest of us. Once you've finished you meal, I'll accompany you all up as well. Take your time, we won't be rushing this part and I don't expect us to get much further than the top today."
After everyone finishes their breakfast and morning rituals, make an athletics or acrobatics check to climb the wall. With advantage because you have a pre-set route.
As a whole, your party ascends pretty easily. The ropes and anchors set previously held strong and Goswas able to expertly guide Ardynup who had trouble with his knot at the start. It takes some time reaching the top. The better part of the afternoon. Hauling up the gear was a small hassle, but it done without incident. Standing atop the cliff now you gives you a slightly better view of the upcoming terrain. Much more craggy, and mountainous than before. It appears climbing will be in your futures again.
Everyone "Let's get a few hours march in before sunset. By tomorrow I feel like we may start seeing signs of the vein nearby,"Brottor says to the group and you all begin heading outwards again. The hours pass by and the sun begins to set. The dwarves begin to set up camp and Brottor looks to you all, "Give us a look around will ya? I'm a bit more wary up here."
Everyone who would like to peak around the campsite, roll a perception check.

Upon hearing that Brottor is more cautious up here, Erskine sets out to scout around the camp. He breaths a small mote of fire into his hand and tosses it out ahead of him. The fire hits the ground and burst into a bright flare of light, before settling into the form of a small mountain goat made of flames. The goat looks back at Erskine and charges, bumping into the Goliaths leg. Erskine laughs and says "Come little one, I need yer eyes out there" and sends the goat to scout a perimeter out from the camp.
“Looks like we might not be the only ones up here,” Ardyn said noticing the tracks that were about thirty feet away from their camp. He was sure they weren’t made anyone with the expedition unless one of the dwarves had wandered off without anyone seeing them. "or maybe those tracks over there were left by an animal."
"Of what manner of beast or being might we expect from those tracks, Mister Ardyn?" Lord Orgosh looks at what Ardyn is pointing out, but cannot ascertain head nor tails from it.
Ardynand Lord Orgosh After studying the tracks for a moment, it becomes plain to see that these were not left by any obvious animal. As Ardyn takes a closer look at the tracks, he realizes that never seen tracks like these before so isn’t sure what kind of creature could have made them, he continues to examine the tracks to see if can figure out what made them.
Gos You notice right away that these tracks belong to kobolds, hold overs from the dragon civil war thousands of years ago. Kobolds were created by the chromatic dragons to use as foot soldiers against the metallic dragons. They're twisted and malformed dragonborn and are seen as an abomination across much of this world, Tellus. You know the kobolds here are white kobolds and are always found in the far north. North of the Jotunheim mountains, far from any major settlement. What they are doing this far south remains a mystery. Alone, kobolds are a minor nuisance. In a group, they can be quite deadly as their tactics are to swarm individual targets. By the looks of it there are five and you can guess they were here about a day or so ago.
