As Soren sorts out how best to preserve the tomes, Dranon begins making room for and securing an area for the party to settle in for the night.
(ooc: I presume the upper floor we came in on is both accommodating and secure enough.)
Once the area for the party is setup and secure, Dranon turns to the others, “Shall we go investigate the area more throughly, now, and see what we can discover?”
"I'll accompany you, Dranon. Exploration is more my strong suit than manual labor and reparations," Luna replies. The half-elf proceeds to stand up and shakes the dust off his pants.
Soren, intent on securing this foothold further, and then experimenting with book recovery, reminds Dranon and Luna. "Don't go too far, take no path you cannot return through without being cut off, and lure anything that gives chase back here. Don't fight when you can run, and if you have to fight make it loud enough that we know where you are. Also - no fire. Be safe."
Luna nods in heed of Soren's advice. He waits a few more moments to see if any other members would join Dranon and him before heading off deeper into the building.
Meriele, as a good daughter of a family of little means, feels right at home setting up and securing a sort of base camp in the dilapidated and disheveled library. When circumstance requires her to move books, she handles them with great care, so as not to damage them any further. She's curious to see if the mending will work, and is eager to start reading... if they can salvage anything. "May I stay here and help with the books?" she asks the others.
(Are Dranon and gang further investigating the top floor, or moving down to the first floor?)
As Soren tests out his magic on a book, what he had feared is revealed to be true. The books here are far too old to be saved. His spell mends the holes in the pages, replacing them with new, unblemished paper. The paper that remains, however, is still flaky and aged, liable to crumple into nothing at a breath. The ink on it is likewise aged beyond legibility, and the fixed spots on the page only add white blotches, like the book had once belonged to a particularly erudite pigeon.

(@DM Dranon and Luna will start with the second floor since that is the floor we are making camp on. It will also allow us to stay a bit closer, at first. After further investigating and securing the top floor, we’ll check in with the other to report any findings before heading downstairs.)
"Well most of this is not worth salvaging." Xilbella says with a frown, as she looks over the worthless pages of one book. She sighs. "I have to believe there is something in this place we can return with, maybe we'll find an air-tight vault or something, with preserved tomes inside of it." She does not look too hopeful of this though as she moves to join the others in the search.
Soren sighs heavily. "Big City gives..." He chucks an unrecoverable book aside, "Big City takes away." After several more trials focused on the better looking books, and failing, Soren gives up. At Xilbella's suggestion he nods in agreement. "I'll join you as well, nothing more to do here."
The group's exploration of the top floor doesn't really reveal anything new. More rows of bookshelves, more ruined books. The area isn't particularly large, and it's likely that this floor only existed to store books for customers to peruse. There is a spiral staircase in a corner of the room, which leads below.

"Ignorance is bliss, and you look absolutely miserable."
With the search on the second floor unfruitful, Luna begins to make way towards the spiral staircase. "I suppose the only thing left to do is search downstairs, aye?"
Have completed a more thorough walkthrough of the upper floor with Luna, Dranon looks to Luna. “We should let the others know we found nothing of interest or importance before heading downstairs”, motioning towards the spiral staircase. “It should only take a few minutes.”
By time the second floor sweep is done, Soren joins the group, a long expression on his face. "No luck restoring the books, I'm sorry to say. How about you... nevermind. From your expressions I can tell nothing was found. Let us delver deeper into this building together."
Dranon looks across the others. “Do we have everyone whose going? If so, let’s head downstairs.” He gives a readied nod to Luna, before turning to head down the spiral staircase, firearm at the ready.
The downstairs area contains many more bookshelves, as well as a couple of tables where some lonely, desiccated books lay. The only notable features are a counter by the front door, and a door that you can tell leads into another room, since while the top floor was rectangular, this floor has the shape of an 'L,' one corner taken up by whatever room lies beyond the door. As for threats, none are visible. Yet... (dun dun dun!)

(I believe we want to see if mending will fix the books on the bookshelves.)

Dranon looks up from his gear check and over to Luna, “Sounds good.” Resuming his gear check, he asks the others, “Anyone else interested?”

Soren approaches the door, slides a small rock under it, and listens carefully for a responsive movement.
Perception Roll = 8
Passive Perception = 19
(The door is a bit too close to the ground for a... small rock to slip under it, I'm afraid)
